    The reality is that every camera has its' shortcomings and its' inherent strengths. Canon clearly notes the limitation in shooting for prolonged times when using formats that are storage intense because of the data. Over the past 30 years with the advent of digital video, the ability to capture and store video images has required a large storage capacity. With that comes the issue of writing data to a storage device. We see these high data rates now and we do not appreciate that when the dv25 standard from almost 30 years ago, required roughly 3.5 megabytes for 1 second of video. Hard drives back then only had as much as one gigabyte of storage. Higher video quality equals higher data rates. Higher data rates equal greater writing of data to a storage card or device. Faster data recording equals higher heat generation. Pull out a card shortly after taking a moderate length video. The card can be pretty hot.
    Why bring this up? The mere fact that any of these digital cameras can capture this much data is truly amazing. These hybrid cameras were designed for use in a mixed environment. Canon did not hide the limitations. You had every opportunity to read the information prior to purchase, and then make your decision. The R5 Mark II is a decent camera. Yes, I found some annoying things like the hot shoe cover, but that is minor. The camera takes a decent shot, still or video.
    If you are truly concerned about having the highest quality video for the longest possible recording time, then get a dedicated video camera. Go buy an R5C, Sony FX6, or an Arri. There is no point in slamming either Canon or its' R5 Mark II. Yes, the R6 Mark II does an outstanding job with video as well. I have both cameras. I bought an R6 Mark II when I was considering dropping Nikon. I liked the R6M2 so much, I traded my Nikon gear for Canon. The R5M2 can film in 4K60p oversampled from 8k with the SRaw format. If you get an R5C, you get 8K60p capability. Yes, greater capabilities = greater cost.
    As for the limitations, the camera is just a tool. Maximize your work within the capabilities. Do not blame the gear. The reality is that most folks watching content, watch if for the information and entertainment value, and not for technical review. I have never had any client ever opine "If only you had shot this without line skipping", or say "If only you had taken this shot with a 45 megapixel camera with a fx.x lens."
    If your R5 Mark II disappoints you so much, take it to Goodwill and drop it off. I still remember the day I went to the zoo to take some pictures and as I was walking around, this little boy was saying to his mom "Could you take some pictures?"
    His mother only had a small flip phone with a limited camera. She did the best she could. Somewhere, the kid is probably looking back on those pictures from 10 years ago, happy as a clam remembering that day with his mom, even though the pictures are likely small, and may not have that high resolution. Moral of the story, be glad you could even afford to go take the photos or videos with that R5 Mark II.

      Well said! My exact feelings too. I have never had a client complain about image quality or megapixels, even when I used to work on an old SL2 in 2021 😂
      And higher price doesn’t always mean better like you said cause isn’t the R5C cheaper than the R5II?
      Btw if you watched the video you know I am not bashing Canon. I am highlighting potential dealbreakers for consumers looking at this camera.
      No camera is perfect, but damn this one is a great one. I also love my R6II and use it daily for my short form content.
      Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Cheers!

    I'm probably going to upgrade from R5C to R5ii. The 4K60p on R5C isn't line skipped but after playing around with R5ii just use 4K60p in SRAW, very small file size for tack sharp 4K60p with RAW IQ. The overheating can be taken care of with the cooling grip which is essential for battery life anyways during long form content shooting. Didn't notice many bugs but surely firmware will fix those. Clog2 and SRAW are the game changers for me personally plus even superior AF. I do agree the price is up there though!

    I own the R5 II, and I have no issues with the 4K/60p. However, I do shoot in SRAW. Which is razor sharp (Rivals the 8k 60, even upon close inspection). I honestly don’t understand why anyone would purchase this camera and not choose to shoot raw considering all the benefits. The raw coming from this camera just blows all the competition out of the water. There are many other options that offer great XF-AVC or other codecs.
    Also, there seems to be a firmware update coming to the R5 II that will add oversampled 4K to the compressed codecs. (Do not quote me, check the rumor mill for updates).

    A second comment about the $4300 price (and more if you need extra grip, batteries, etc.). If you are truly only a videographer, I agree this isn't worth it for you. But one thing that criticizing the $4300 price tag misses is all of the photography improvements it brings on. I paid $2500 back in the day for my R6mk2 (since sold to help buy the R5mk2) and I'd say the improvements I got on both photography (approx. 2/3 usage, including fast action sports and wildlife) and videos (1/3 usage) more than justify the price increase. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have paid only $3800 or $3500. I'm waiting until prices drop before getting a second body. But given Canon's historic pricing, the inflation rates we experienced over the last few years...if you're using this for both photography and videography, the price tag is pretty much in line with what you're getting.

    • @BrunoPozo4Real
      @BrunoPozo4Real  7 дней назад

      @@BrunoPozo4Real It's easy to be just a photographer or just a videographer, but if you're a hybrid and you don't want to have separate sets of equipment, one for video and the other for photos, then you're in trouble with Canon.
      I believe the R6MKII is an ideal camera created by Canon, of course it lacks 4K120 or 150fps and maybe clog2, but then it would be another level camera.
      Canon has a chance to fix the R5MKII bug by releasing the R5cMKII. Who knows, maybe the R5MKII was intentionally released as a more photo-oriented camera, while the R5cMKII will be logically video-oriented.
      Really the only thing I'm waiting for is the R5cMKII and I have a good feeling that it could be the right thing for hybrid shooters.

    What people don’t get is that a photography camera is photography first and video second. If you will shoot shots then yes a photography or hybrid camera will do. If you aim to shoot a podcast for 30+ mins then get a video camera. It’s that simple, if you cannot afford high end cameras for long video shoots like an fx6 c300 markiii or anything in between, the better off getting a dedicated camcorder for longform videos.
    The business I work for was going to get 3 canon r8 with 24-105 lenses, a zoom lens, dummy batteries to shoot 4k videos for up an hour per take after a couple of directors who only shoot film and not into the broadcast system recommended the r8 even though nobody tried the r8 for such work.
    So I did my research and asked around to find out that it won’t work. Instead we got 3 canon xa55 camcorders. I was aiming for the xa75 but they needed up to a month to arrive after being imported so we ended up with the xa55. Not bad at all resolution. We would film 60 mins of canon 4k 25 AVC with 2 128 4k extreme pro sd cards and with larger batteries connected to the camera adapter. They never heated. So for podcasts you are better off going for a dedicated canon camcorder like the XF 505 or 705 or Sony alternative, which Panasonic, JVC, black magic design it’s or studio 4k, that does the job while keeping a mirrorless for just photos and short clips.
    I would also recommend you get an atem pro iso sdi if you can go with 1080p recording and streaming, but if u insist on 4k the you will need a 4k camera that sends 4k in the sdi output and a 4k switcher plus a hyperdeck and web presenter. It’s a hefty purchase but will be at least 7 years future proof before having to upgrade.

    Suppose, in a future update, the R5ii would not do line skipping for an APS-C cropped 60p6K oversampled 4K. Would that allay your concerns about the poor quality for the 4K 60 video? The video clarity should be identical to the R6ii, under those circumstances, although you would have depth-of-field differences (and the dynamic range of the R6ii might be marginally better due to larger pixels).

    Wrt to 4K60 being lineskipped instead of oversampled...I know Jared Hoyman did a video where he called in Canon Customer Service and was told that 4K60 SRAW was also line skipped, but he was dumbfounded by that answer because he found it to be very sharp. So I decided to test and shot some 4K60 SRAW in both standard and light compression, and after converting it using Premiere Pro to HEVC with a target rate of 50Mbps, I have to say it looks to my naked eye as sharp as the 4K30 Fine (which is oversampled) footage I shoot. Was the Canon reply incorrect? Or maybe does shooting in RAW preserve so much more detail that it overcomes the line skipping compromise vs. using a compressed codec (HEVC/AVC) and oversampling? I don't know, but the results sharpness-wise are indistinguishable to my eye. Yes it does add the extra encode step from SRAW to HEVC. And yes it's a much larger file size. But if you have already bought the R5mk2 and want the best quality 4K60, shooting in SRAW is the way to go.

    • @BrunoPozo4Real

      I do think the SRAW 4K is sharper than the standard non-fine 4k. It is confusing though cause your right, apparently canon says that mode is lineskipped too.

So while I won't hold my breath, I also wouldn't say it's an impossibility, especially since the R6mk2 could do 4K60 oversampled (but lacked CLog 2 and a whole host of other features the R5ii has).

I mean sure the RRP is higher, but let's deal with the reality, not the theoretical.

      Damn I wish I got it during that sale cause I definitely think it’s a steal at that price. Especially once u consider the photo side, this video was mainly speaking to the video ONLY side. Cheers from Oregon :)

    Does yours have an issue, that with IS lenses like the 15-35 or 24-70 f2.8, the footage looks jittery? Almost like there is no stabilisation? With non stabilised lenses paired with the body it's buttery smooth. I also experience the playback showing the 2nd most recent picture instead of the most recent

    • @BrunoPozo4Real
      @BrunoPozo4Real  8 дней назад

      Surprisingly the IS does seem a little wonkier than it did on my R6II. I haven’t tested it directly between IS lenses and non-IS lenses (I have the 28-70 which has no IS).
      And yeah what a strange bug. I still love the camera but I can see these flaws being a deal breaker for some.

    Always thanks Bruno for helpful info! I have one question about R6m2's 8bit 420 recording for 4k60p. It 's a bit discouraging for me as a beginner to know that R6m2 only supports 8bit 420 for linear 4k60p recording (when not using clog3 or hdrpq). Whereas R5m2 supports linear 422 10bit, though it's line-skipped in 4k60p as you mentioned in the video. If I don't usually color grade my video, would it make noticeable differences in terms of movie image quality for me to consider upgrade to R5m2?

    • @BrunoPozo4Real
      @BrunoPozo4Real  8 дней назад +1

      That’s such a tough call. I do agree, having that 422 10 bit without log is super nice on the R5II, but I think if you are going to use the 4k60 a lot then it’s not worth it (imo).
      I have been reviewing my 4k60 footage from the R5II and it’s been disappointing to me.
      Especially at $4300 >.>

    • @KeithSklower
      @KeithSklower 7 дней назад +2

      Depending on the sort of recording you do, you might want to see if the R6m2 transmits 4K10bit422 over HDMI even though it is not recording it. The ~US$600 atomos ninja will record that and 6K30 raw. The ~US$800 ninja ultra will record 6K60 raw, which the bhphoto page says that the r6ii will suply over HDMI.

      The R5II has this ability. What camera were you referring to?

  • @wildwedding
    @wildwedding 7 дней назад +1

    1. It does line skipping because it's a 45mp camera, not a 24mp camera like the r6, it does NOT overheat easy.
    2. Recorded 4 hour straight yesterday while charging and no issues. It isn't a warning, it's a meter, and you obviously haven't turned on the high heat mode. Never used a fan or cooling grip. Sell me yours
    3. Smokes every camera on the market with AF
    4. Smokes every photo camera on the market
    5. Learn to take photos.
    since you can't use it properly, or haven't read the manual.

    • @BrunoPozo4Real
      @BrunoPozo4Real  7 дней назад

      1. Understood, I get why it does the lineskipping. But it can also downsample the 8k like it does for 4k24 and 4k30 in fine mode. I imagine it doesn’t do that for 4k60 due to overheating issues.
      2. I have high heat mode on, it might just be the settings I am in and I leave the fan on Low if I use an on camera mic, and medium or high if it is an off camera microphone.
      3. The AF is sick
      4. I can’t say cause I am not familiar with all the cameras first hand.
      5. I do take photos with this camera.
      This is actually why I still love the camera because it does amazing photos AND amazing video. The video simply speaks to video focused people who are looking into the camera and may have needs that this camera doesn’t fulfill.
      I love my R5II :)
