In today's video, "Blizzard Prep: 10 Must-Do Truck Steps for Every Man - Ultimate Guide," I'm diving into how to get your truck ready for the harsh winter ahead. When you're up against snowstorms and freezing temperatures, it's crucial to have a vehicle that's up to the challenge. I'll take you through the whole process, from the basics to the nitty-gritty, sharing my personal tips and expertise along the way.
We'll start by checking your tires and fitting them with chains for unmatched traction in snowy conditions. Then, we'll move on to the 4x4 system, a vital component for navigating through thick snow. I'll also cover the ins and outs of maintaining your winch, ensuring it's ready for any icy encounters.
The cold can be tough on your truck's battery and electrical system, so I'll guide you through what to check to keep everything running smoothly. We’ll also talk about the essential fluids that need attention to withstand freezing temperatures. And of course, no winter prep is complete without a well-stocked emergency kit, so I’ll share what I keep in mine.
Heating and defrosting systems are your best friends in winter - I'll show you what to check to ensure you stay warm and maintain clear visibility. And because we know the snow can bring unexpected challenges, I'll go over the must-have recovery gear for snowy conditions, including how to prepare your chainsaw kit for any fallen trees in your path.
I'll also demonstrate why changing your oil to AMSOIL Synthetic and using a high-mileage filter can be a game-changer for your engine's protection in the cold. Plus, we can’t forget about visibility - I’ll show you how to replace your wiper refills and choose the best washer fluid for winter. And remember, a clean windshield is key to safe driving in snowy conditions, so I'll share some tips on keeping your windows crystal clear.
So, why tune in? Because your safety is paramount. I'm here to ensure your truck is as prepared as you are for whatever winter throws at us. From mechanical checks to packing your emergency kit, we're covering it all, backed by years of my experience in handling these extreme conditions.

In the coming struggle, what will happen or how should we handle enemies like those in small hats and others who will try to destroy us by attacking our homesteads
I like the subtle flex with the King coilovers in the side shot
So how much snow did you end up with?
Hello Sir, Just a friendly advisement from a mechanic best secret kept by the parts stores is getting silicone wipers they last for years rather than months and they are superior to traditional blades.
K&N filter for your truck.
I found your channel a month after my home flooded because of a supply line that popped off under the kitchen sink. You gave me a label, Professional Homeowner, that I can hold onto when things get tough! You've inspired a 26-year-old Midwest (Chicago) man!
Whenever I hear it I think professional hoe..... but that's just me.
Right On 🤙🏻💯😎
Are you the product of a single mother
I’m in Chicago too!! Professional God Fearing American! I don’t own a home but I prepare. Thank you WranglerStar!
No, I was not born illegitimate,
You may want to start oil changes every 5000 to 6000 mi, ford's had alot of problems with their variable valve timing systems especially the cam phasers. They have extensive very small passages for the oil pressure to adjust valve timing, easily clogged by the smallest amount of sludge buildup. Also those new 7.3L engines have been known for camshafts delaminating, food for thought. Thanks for your videos as always be blessed.
I love how many unique and useful tools you have, but when it comes to a oil catch pan you have the bare minimum. I think we all have that one tool that's just enough.
More of these videos are needed. I remember these types of videos of you working in your former wood shop.
Power went out here in Pierce County last night due to wind. Got to light up the old kerosene lantern from the 70's that lit my parents' living room when I was a kid.
Don't forget to apply Rain-x to the windshield after you clean it! Game changer on visibility when raining and snowing
Nu finish is another one, isopropyl clean off first then wipe on, haze, wipe off
Cody,
Now I've seen it all! You still have full service at the gas station!
Waiting for the storm here in Quebec as well, all prepped and ready, thanks for the video Cody!
We been mostly ready for a bit now. I’m officially a proho’s man servant as of a few months ago. I’m loving the responsibility, the not having to leave home, the ability to use the owners stuff to an extent and the endless change in jobs. Always keeping me on my toes and testing my problem solving skills. I think this is what I was bread for honestly. North coast man loves your videos 🤙
Minor suggestion. When you pull the wiper blades off put the wiper arm back down against the glass. They are spring loaded and if you leave them up there is a possibility they can slam into the windshield and crack it. Especially if you are cleaning the windshield. It's really easy to bump the arm and make it slam down.
Damn, this is a good one
My employee did that and cracked a brand new Audi's windshield. I believe it was a $1,200 mistake because, of course, it was a special type of windshield.
@@unaffiliated_x9279 of course it never happens on a junk Cavalier. Only on something that stings the wallet.
Yup, I did exactly that on my mom's car. I'm super paranoid when changing wipers now.
Me as well, expensive lesson
I never would have thought to write my oil change info right there. What a pro tip!
Marl couldn’t put the chains down.
In those extreme temperatures, 20 below, his fingers were stuck to those chains like a tongue on a frozen pump handle.
As a Londoner in England, UK. Where the weather is pretty calm 99% of the time, it is always good to learn these lessons.
Try living in Scotland 🏴 2010 it twas -20
I would also check the battery fluid level since you had the corrosion on the terminal. Could be a little low and the top of the lead plates will be showing. Only takes a few minutes. Hope this helps. Good luck with the storm!
Yup, need 2 tools to do it "right", or just distilled water to get you going. You should first use a tester to be sure there is enough acid the water won't freeze. Second, use a battery filling jug if you have an old type battery. If you use AGM, which are mostly decent (i would avoid optima and clones tho), oversize it a bit to counter for the lack of maint. Either way best to just bite the bullet and buy a quality battery when it's time. I always measure my battery box/area to fit the largest I can, but be aware of where the posts are, polarity, height, etc.
I like the felt washers that fit on battery terminals,
Helps a lot😊
Most batteries these days you can't check fluid level on
Don't rinse the corrosion off into the engine bay...EVERYTHING it touches will rust / rot in short order.
@@paladinjmeNeutralize it with Coke and rinse immediately with copious amounts of H2O, you’ll be fine. 👍🏻
If all you can find is +32 degree washer fluid, you can use 1 cup per gallon of 90% or higher rubbing alcohol. The alcohol keeps it from freezing and that little amount won't affect the paint.
My favorite time of the year is here where we can all spend the morning together for snowstreams.
Us east coast guy still go barefooted even in blizzards! Be safe beloved!
East Coast man, remembers plowing for 55 hours straight back during the Blizzard of 78.
@mikebolton3816 I was born early 80's so I don't remember 79, I do remember 93!
I love the snow/winter preparation content!
These are my favorite kinds of videos that you do!!!
When I was a teen and was introduced to a character like mr Phillips, I would do what I could to drop everything I was doing just to see if there was a way I could help him in some way, just to learn. I always walked away a better person for it.
As a Alabama man I look forward to the live blizzard snow stream as the snow is a rarely seen by me snow
Those wiper blades are great! They are impregnated with rain-x. The instructions on the package tell you to run them dry for a bit, and then apply the washer fluid to activate the rain-x... Its crazy I know, but they are the only wiper blades that have an installation instruction!
Stay safe!
I love these type of video’s, happy to see them return!
Loved the story of that old timer with the chains. So strange that the most random encounters can impact us for the rest of our lives. Although I certainly wouldn't forget it if I witnessed something like that! They don't make 'em like they used to!
Love to see you using a Daytona Jack in the shop. Stay warm and stay safe brother thank you for sharing all your preps for these storms. God bless
Agreed. I feel better about recently replacing my 20+ year old tool truck floor jack with a HF Daytona. If it’s good enough for the Proho, it’s good enough for me.
One man I would love to spend a day with before I die. So many of your lessons and tips have stuck with me and helped to mold my character over the years. Everything has a standard procedure.
This is the best channel on RUclips this is a real man
Always love these videos of the preparation Cody! Thank you for showing us and teaching us! This channel is my favorite! God Bless!
The pain is real with the oil change. I always somehow manage to spill my waste oil.
Keep up with your work.
Love your channel. I leave my skid steer bucket outside so snow doesn't melt and then freeze in the bottom. Just what I've found to be helpful in central Nebraska
Good to see you again
FANTASTIC! Hard to be prepared so well. I'm still working at it!😊
Very much like how you prep for things like this. Stay safe and stay warm!
Absolutely the best channel on RUclips. Thank you Cody.
the fruits make self evident your labor. well done sir
The appreciation I have for the value this man brings to the internet 💚💚💚
PROHO! The interwebs DADDY!
One of my favorite style of videos! Love the prep videos
Holy cow! This midwest city proho here had 4-8 inches of snow and I really predicted at least 5 inches. Our sidewalks aren't even getting covered.
well it seems just now at about 1:49 we're gettin maybe a quarter/half inch
This might have been your best video. Very relaxing.
Love this video!! Thanks Cody!
Love it. Wish we could get that kind of snow!
Stay safe brother. I’m praying for you❤️
dad was a self employed mechanic for 40 years. always go with silicone wiper blades. long lasting, clean wipe
Have a good day and stay safe
God Bless You And Your Family and Thank You Very Much For Sharing 🙏🇯🇲
thanks for all the great videos, all the great content and fun times
As always; inspiring. Thoughts and prayers. TY.
God bless you Wranglestar, a man can dream but also live that life through you brother ;-)
Now this the stuff I really like to see!! Stay safe brother!
Good luck and stay safe, that sounds like a pretty good storm. I am sure all of the planning and preparation will pay off.
This was a great video! As always great content. GOD BLESS!!
Great advice! Am sharing this on several socoal platforms. Blessings!
Worked in the parts industry for 8 years, couple of pro-tips incoming. NEVER, leave the wiper arms up without blades on them, bump one of those and they slap down on the space formerly inhabited by a windshield. AMSOIL glass cleaner is tops, but try newspaper instead of the blue towels for a really nice final clean. Great video as always!
Thank you very much for what you show us.
Happy new year to you too blessings to you and your family
I love that bumper .
VERY IMPORTANT- the j hooks on the chain holder need to be facing away from tire. Logs and potholes will push end of j into sidewall. It happened to me.
I didn't know that. This comment section is gold. Thank you for that insight.
Could never happen to wranglerstar
@@tedlarson2078😂
He got it half right 😅
also he put the rubber chain tensioner on backwards. He put the end of the S hook facing in.
Good stuff. I can relate to everything in this video. It enjoy watching someone else doing it. Thanks for the video. Hope you have a nice weekend and enjoy the snow.
Thank you for the videos!
Can’t wait to see how the warm the tent is and the snow build up
Outstanding advice 💯👍
Excellent video
I'm glad I'm not the only one that looks forward to this. Gives me the fizzzzzzzzz
I love your style brother! God bless!
Great vidio, thanks!
You should try that RainX windshield washer fluid. It's a game changer. I can't imagine using anything else now. It's like the rain is scared to stick to the window when you're driving.
Nice man at the gas station i forgot they do it for you in Oregon.
Great video Cody
Nice job with that drain pan.
Amazing old school type video!
Love that machine!
Awesome video!!
Very cool! Love your 350! 🙏🙏
I’ve never needed chains for roads on my f250 4x4, but I have them for the worst case scenarios. Glad to see you put them on the front wheels like a competent 4-wheel drive owner
Appreciate these types of videos. Thank you, Cody!
Good work.
So now you have a metal mail box post where dose the waste oil go?
Next week on Wranglerstar...
"Running The Cheapest Diesel Heater From Amazon On Old Engine Oil"
I pour it out on the neighbors yard after dark,
Great video....
I love this stuff.
Good luck brother be safe!!
Love these videos, job well done!
Classic wrangler star video. I miss these.
Great video sir! Stay safe and God bless
Nice scarf!
Wow, good video!
Put carabiner hooks in the end of the loose chain, better than zip ties.👍
Just ace 👍. Stay safe
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; snowstorms are no exception. Great video as always. Also, if you're cleaning battery terminals, wear eye protection. I recently got some of that gunk in my eye and you won't forget it!
Soft hands
I personally use Bosch wiper blades. Very soft rubber that doesn’t streak. I replace them once year even though it’s not needed because there is not much that brings me as much joy as brand new wiper blades. It’s like having a new truck.
Same here. Bosch Icon. They last years for me. I just wipe em down from time to time with degreaser hand wipes.
A perfectly clean and clear windshield gives me the grins
Thank you
solid video! just like the old days!
"Be Prepared".....that's a good motto to go by....nice work. I have an F250 and also opted for the gas engine....I like it.
"Be Prepared" the old Boy Scout Motto
good quality video, very informative, beautiful home and a nice cheerful guy in front of the camera, man i love theese vids :D
You carrying that oil pan… I felt that.
For wipers I like the Bosch icon
I always enjoy watching Proho prepping for success. Watching your videos has inspired me to change my approach to many things. By the way i definitely would have spilled the oil. Haha
Exelent work !
You look like the dad from the original Conan the Barbarian movie, love your stuff
Proho,
I would not leave the wiper arm in the extended position without a wiper blade on it. I have seen the arms fall down onto the glass breaking it. Great content, Cody! Thanks for the info.
Heck yeah! Let the snow streams come!
