One pro tip for your firewood operation. If you build cages on top of pallets and store your firewood in them. You could just pick em up with the forks and take them to your fireplace with the skidsteer. And that would mean less manual labour in the winter when its cold outside.

You just showed me a picture of my dream life. Living out in the wilderness, on a river, heating with wood. Nice equipment to do what needs to be done, a beautiful shop space to store and work on everything. Maybe I'll get there. First I have to convince the Mrs. that this is better than life in suburbia!
A few comments: I have this issue in winter in my garage too: dealing with water on the floor when all the vehicles come in covered in snow/slush. I think running a dehumidifier is a good idea, as I've had issues with the excess moisture in the air causing my tools to rust. The problem is a dehumidifier will only work down to about 40°F, so you'd have to keep the place heated at least a little bit. The ultimate solution, and you probably know this too, is to have floor drains and pitch the concrete to them. Then you could even wash stuff in there and get all the slush/salt off with a nice warm water spray. Also looks like you need a slightly bigger wood stove for the size of logs you're putting in there! Hopefully some day I'll achieve my dreams too! God bless from slightly less snowy Michigan.

Snow chain storage idea: does your truck have a spare wheel hung under the chassis? If it does, and the wheel is facing down, could you use it as a sort of trough to store the chains in?

Hey out there, nice to see preparation pay off. Love the road side repair stories about your grandfather. My family has a few of those between all the adventures we have had. Best one is still losing an alternator in the middle of New Hampshire in the dead of winter. We were driving back to MA after a day in the mountain, when the lights all dimmed in the Ford Chateau van we were in. My youngest brother was driving alerted us of the trouble and we quickly found an auto parts store down the road. Once there, my second youngest brother got the alternator and tools from the store while my oldest brother and me were disconnecting the old alternator. We had the new one installed in record time and got home with no further issues. To this day, no one in my family calls that incident a breakdown, because we were never stopped long enough for the engine to cool. Just another day.

The chains I bought for my suburban has the welded “V” on the cross links, sadly one night a cross link did break and yes it did damage the side of my vehicle, glad it got me home though. Do wish they cam with the cam tensioners. I also keep some long tie wraps for tensioning. Take a piece of pvc tubing wider that the chains, notch the ends to hold the chain and roll up the chains after every use, it will keep that knot out of your chains and with the chains installed you can keep the pvc in the cab as it isn’t heavy enough to do any damage if you roll

I recall a vacation with my father, borrowed my grandfathers motorhome. Damn gas tank fell off, big, I imagine 100 gallons. My father put that back in with a board, a bottle jack and some of those metal hardware strips with holes in them from a hardware store, I recall being so proud that I could help ( or what I thought was help) at a young age, LOL. He did amazing things, they don't make to many men like that now, some I am sure, but unfortunately there are less and less men these days that can think on their feet and repair things in the field, or repair things at all. I am proud to of learned from him while we was with us. Thank you for allowing me to think of that memory from your story. Much appreciated.

Arguably, the people on the East coast were the sesnsible ones whose families survived in greater numbers. They did what they HAD to do, and no more, whereas the pioneers were driven to take insane risks. I bet if you checked the genealogy of Americans, the "soft" (think tactically smart) East coasters are far more represented.

Urban east coast man does not speak for all east coast man. He is a weak man, he is a fallen man. In the Hudson valley growing up I would get so giddy with excitement knowing a big storm was coming. Shoveling, plow rides, anything. Still feel that way at 30.

Cody is funny bashing the Ram trucks! I guess a Ford is fine if all you tow is a skid steer on a dump trailer.
Few years ago when we had 28" snow, a friend with a Ford F250 4x4 called me, asked if I would take some round bales of hay out to his cows on another piece of property 15 miles away because he tried and couldn't make it with his Ford. After 4 trips hauling round bales to his cows with my Dodge 2500, cummins 4x4, he tried to buy my truck.

Used to live in Occupied California. Deployed chains exactly once in 30 years. And that was because of a surprise. Dual rear wheels are absolutely useless in the snow......That is true. But I need them to tow my trailers for work. I have Ford F450's now. A few of them. Doesn't anybody with experience know whether putting chains on the inside wheel is worth the extra effort, or is the outside dual good enough? Also looking for opinions on whether to chain up the front axle on a 4X4. I now live in a place north of Occupied-California, and it snows a lot more here. I would appreciate any advice from people who know what they're talking about!

As a South East man, it may be genetic I suppose. I'd much rather be in a squal in the middle of the ocean in a 17' Boston Whaler or facing down a 10' bull shark while SCUBA diving than in a snow blizzard. Although I do enjoy snow skiing, snowmobiling, and even cross country skiing, the only manly skiing, I prefer to visit snow and return to the white sandy beaches of Florida where I can wear short paints all year long. Just have too much salt water in the blood.

Do you have any good brands for snow chains? I live in SoCal but I like taking my family up to the mountains to where it can drop close to 40-50 degrees just by driving 20-30 minutes and there is snow and ice. But nobody really sells them up here so I don't have any good baselines.

Looking at Mama Kitty, did you know that striped cats like her have an ‘M’ on their forehead. How it came to be was, when the Baby Jesus was lying in the drafty manger, he was cold. A cat jumped in, snuggled close, and kept the Baby Jesus warm. Jesus’ mother Mary was so grateful, that she touched the cat’s forehead, and ever since, striped cats have had Mary’s initial on their forehead.
A very old story, but true. That ‘M’ is always there, on striped cats.

There is no difference between East and West coast men! I live in Florida I get up in the morning take a shower 🧼 I go to the beach 🏖 for breakfast have a vanilla latte with quiche or crêpes! Then I head over to the beach 🏖 to work on my tan. Then it’s back to the house 🏡 for a milk 🥛 bath 🛁 and lotion then I take a nap 😴 then I prepare for lunch 🥗 so as you can see it’s not much different that you’re day.

Take a scrap of plywood, throw on some wasted 2x4 scraps spaced out for your chains. Lay them out ahead, drive on and it gives the flexibility to adjust and fit chains in the field without a jack. I have my old man's, probably never get rid of them.

@wranglerstar, I may be misinterpreting your catch phrase if we can call it that. You say another tip for professional home owners....
I really don't mean to come across as hateful or a jerk, but I am a home owner and a of father of 3 and I love it. I don't think of myself, or any other men who stay at home and do all our own D.I.Y as a "professional home owners" I love your videos and always watch them, but I really can't see or think of it as my profession. A stay at home Dad who does his own d.i.y, yes but it's just what we do for our family's. It makes it sound like anybody who owns a home become professionals.
If I am wrong or not understanding your meaning, I'm sorry. It just doesn't sound right.
Again I really do love your videos and will be hitting the subscribe button.

I have a FWD crossover and my friend has a big 4 wheel driver and he would brag all the time about it. We were in the pit in NJ and I said if you know how to drive you then FWD won’t stop me from doing what you do. RWD can cause problems though. We started going through the mud and sand and he got his truck stuck but I didn’t get stuck at all. I had wheel spin and had to work hard to keep control but I did it just fine. Knowing some physics really helps too. I’ve had rich friends with Awd cars brag too and then get stuck in the mud hahahahahaha it was always so funny. They’d get so mad and butthurt after bragging for so long.
