My teacher challenged me to teach myself 3 songs from the Grade 5 syllabus over the summer holidays (at an exam-ready level) so we could jump to Grade 6 when we get back in September, and your videos are helping so much! Thank you :)
woohoo, I helped myself and my friend, I'm using my mum's account to type this but anyway, I entered the music finals at my school for the drums and I recommended my friend this song which ended up making him and me the final winners for the music competitions and we both got first place.
Thanks sooo much Mike this is really helping me with my practice it’s because of your help that I’ve nearly completed all 3 of my songs in just 2 lessons!
Hi Mike I was wandering if you could do a video just to help with the bar at 55 secs. I can't really read drum music. This is a part I'm really struggling with but I'm determined to learn the song. Also I don't have the book so can't actually see what's going on in that bar. Thanks. Emily.
Hi Emily, thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you're enjoying your drumming! If you're going to learn this song, as in the full part - my advice is get the book. It's got the backing track with drums and without drums - to play to, and the full written part (plus loads of other great tunes). These videos are designed to support students who are using the Trinity resources. I really wouldn't recommend trying to learn this full part and all its details, drum fills etc without the book. It's available here: www.amazon.co.uk/Trinity-College-London-Drums-Grade/dp/0857366432/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=M1JPN4AQ8M944FBK0ZX8 And as for reading drum music, I'd really recommend developing those skills too. They'll help so much with the learning of songs, once you have the basics down. Playing by ear is great and a good way to learn simple lines, and of course you should always be using your ears as a musician! But once you hit more complex parts like here at Grade 5, having a bit of a deeper understanding about what's going on, being able to count the phrases etc will help you no end in putting the part together and learning the fills more easily. It'll make it easier and more fun, plus you'll have a set of skills that will empower you to learn all the music you want to in the future, rather than just learning one song. It's a real investment in yourself and your ability that I'd really recommend. I've just started a new little series on the basics of reading drum music: ruclips.net/p/PLcfoni8UPb9pEtFYC95iEUEWNQohPBT4w More videos will be added that soon! I'd also really recommend taking lessons from a teacher who can guide you through drum notation (if you're not already) - again once you've got the hang the basics it makes learning your songs infinitely easier and more fun! This is also a really great book about reading/drum music theory which starts right at the beginning: www.readdrummusic.com/?product=learn-to-read-drum-music-book-1 Cheers Emily, hope that makes sense, go for it and have fun :) Mike
A good simplified version for beginners but this drum part isn’t quite right. 1) no inclusion of the two toms in the main beat 2) no inclusion of the hi-hat with the left foot 3) no inclusion of the small tom in the most used fill at the end of phrases
Thanks for watching Alex. Videos such as these are demos of the songs as they appear in the Trinity Rock and Pop Drum Grade course, and I record them for my students and others to help them prepare for their grade exams. These particular arrangements of the songs are not copies of the original, and intentionally don't replicate exactly what was played on the original. I'm playing exactly what appears in the Trinity Grade 5 book here. If I'm playing what a drummer played on a video then I title it as "note-for-note cover". Otherwise these "Trinity Rock and Pop Grade" videos will often vary from original versions. More info at www.trinityrock.com/. Cheers for watching!

Love this one Mike , great drumming , I'm having difficulty with 6/4 time signatures , thanks for the upload 🙏😍
Cheers for watching man!
Thankyou for the advice this should be really useful.
Mike I’ve got my exam in 2 DAYS and this is the one song I can’t play, it’s so difficult, do u have any tips or I’m gonna fail 😅
Usual advice! Break it down, work on a section at a time, build it from slow to full speed.

so good!!!
This is for syllabus and main grove is missing the drags and isn't accurate, missed the fills that add the rhythm too
This is a video demo of the Grade 5 arrangement - it's purposely different from the original, to fit the criteria for this level. Thanks for watching!
I try learn this. FASTT
Big fan
