Thanks dude, looking at getting a Schecter Hellcat, only bass VI they do at the moment but it's probably the best choice for me as a fan of The Cure. I think putting flat wounds on 6s is a big mistake and I've been reading through threads where people immediately lose interest as soon as they put them on.
I think having that brighter sound is what makes bass VI's sound great and allows the maximum versatility of a bass/guitar/baritone hybrid and you can really notice it at the end. Flats wouldn't do that song justice. Cheers

Brilliant stuff Benjamin. Schecter make consistently great quality instruments, you can't go wrong with them.

That "really good value" instrument of yours costs twice as much as the Squier. Even with the unnecessary Mastery bridge upgrade, and getting a CME exclusive color such as purple metallic or shell pink with matching headstock, you could still afford several sets of Labella flatwounds and still not have spent as much as you did. And it's a Fender/Squier. You made my decision easy. Thanks!

For me, the Eastwood offers more of what I’m looking for in terms of reliability over many years, it’s been consistent and sounds great.
I’m not about to argue about which one’s best, they’re all great and the fact that you can get these instruments without having to fork out for an original is incredible. What’s your opinion on using a bass vi in a 3 piece rock band occasionally? Using it in place of a traditional bass to maybe beef up guitar riffs but keep some low end. Also bass amp or guitar? I would like a little distortion so any advice? Sorry for all the questions lol

    • @ScottPoleyMusic
      @ScottPoleyMusic  2 года назад +6

If it's good enough for The Beatles, Cream & Zeppelin, it's good enough for me 😀🤘 absolutely, I've used my Bass VI to play bass for a 3 piece rock band, super fun and really useful.
Bass or Guitar Amp - either! Depends what context, if you want to play regular bass lines, I'd recommend a bass amp. I used guitar amps for everything in this demo.
Distortion - that's an interesting one. If you're using pedal for gain, try a few out. You'll want one that doesn't suck loads of low end from the signal. That will obviously depend on whatever you're plugging into.
Do you think I should make another Bass VI video about tones / effects / playing techniques etc?

@@ScottPoleyMusic To add to the tail, my attached neighbour had a fly-by roofing company crush the downspout at the front of the house. We came back to Toronto from Nashville and I happened to go into the basement. That Moserite was floating. It was the only guitar on the floor of the basement. It was ruined. At least the case is covered in mould...

It may sound shallow but, unfortunately, only the vintage creams are available now and I truly can't see myself inspired to play an ugly instrument!!! Can I have yours?? you've really sold me on the model since an honest and talented set up tech is hard to find w/out raping my pocket. Cheers thanks for the excellent but all too brief vid.

Haha mines not going anywhere 😂 knowing Eastwood, I'm sure there will be more stock coming in the not too distant future. They make a few different models of Bass VI too.

@@ScottPoleyMusic Do they really? I've only seen the Sidejack VI so far after poking around a bit. I was seriously ready to get the Squier VI until I noticed the consensus difficulties with tuning/intonation and I would def prefer something higher end to avoid future difficulties. Their site only shows the one model... hmmmm. Anyway, thanks for the response and Happy New year to you and yours! -D

Okay, to further bend your ear... The TB64 is a 6 string bass/guitar hybrid or no? Have you done a review of these (loving them, btw- nice work)? What do you think about the switch placement? They look a bit "Accident prone". Cheers

It is a Bass VI - for my taste, I'd wait for a sidejack. No wierd switches,

That introductory piece sounds like “Sissy Strut-meets-Chameleon” or something.
Here’s an example of my attempts (dating fro, 2019) to play the Fender/Squier rendition of the Bass Six more like a bass with a “tenor extension” than an instrument trying to be both at the same time. My main complaint with it is that the pickups could be wound tighter for more output.

Hey Rod, I used a few amps for different parts of the tracks but generally any Fender style amplifier will give you the sound.
