    Thanks for showing anything past zero needs thinking about, out here in the wild west it's windy as hell and it does its own thing on different ground, knowledge is built up in layers and range practice builds knowledge 👍👍

    Totally agree Vince. Especially with 12fpe rifles in .22 cal. Better no shot than a miserable death. Excellent video buddy 👍

    Great explanation, and as always, you are quite rightly stressing that power is worth nothing without the ability to have accurate shot placement. Thanks for putting the time and effort in Vin....

    Spot on as usual Vin. All my rifles are zeroed at 25 metres approx. The perfect range for an air rifle in my mind. Good range for clean dispatch. Excellant range for fine accuracy. (my shooting is nothing like your level) and i am constantly rained off at present so missing my practice. Also complete absence of squirrels.

    Although I haven’t been out rabbit shooting for several months , when I was out, I enjoyed the challenge of getting as close as possible to them, even though it may have taken 10+ minutes to get within 40 yards for a head shot! For me, the stalking was the most skillfull part of the event, because if you can’t get close enough for a guaranteed kill, then you’ve failed….and the animal may only be wounded and suffer! When I didn’t manage to get close enough and spooked the rabbit, only to see it run off at 30 mph, I laughed and congratulated the bunny but scolded myself! All these super dooper long range, high powered air rifles are marvellous……but, imo, it takes the fun, skill and more importantly, the challenge out of the equation! Thanks, Vin, for reminding us what it’s really about!

    As always a great video my late father always drummed into my brother and I if in doubt don’t take the shot, and I’ll be honest reading the wind is something I need more practice at age 50….

  • @davidcrane5984

    My mantra was always "Get as close as you can, then 10 yards closer." OK, you spook a few bunnies, but the kills are clean.

    Drop is a known variable for distance but windage is the unpredictable factor that will cause more issues for sure

    • @vincentenglish8489
      @vincentenglish8489  7 месяцев назад +4

      Very true Keith, but only kinda, factor in errors in judging distance then add in gradients wether shooting up into tree tops or down steep slopes...see where I'm going with this😉👍👍👍

    • @rapalaron6348
      @rapalaron6348 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@vincentenglish8489 That's also a very important factor Vince. Shooting up to tree tops or down slopes needs on zeroing distance needs always a little bit of hold under.

      @@vincentenglish8489 I really enjoyed using the app to get an idea which pellets had the best BC it each caliber. When I was shooting out longer ranges it was cool to see on paper thing like sight in at 20 yards, be a little low at 10, on at 20, a little high at 30 and maybe dead on again at 40. It was all calculations but fun to see how it worked out in real life. It gave a good idea of which pellets worked better for longer ranges and which lost energy the quickest. Now the app is for firearms too and a mess.

    As always Vin great Vid and you’re saying it how it is.
    Presuming a live quarry would sit still long enough for a person to enter the variables, pellet weight, muzzle energy, prevailing wind speed and direction, Distance etc what do you think of the ballistic apps on some of the digital scopes?
    I don’t like them and can’t see myself ever using one.

    • @vincentenglish8489
      @vincentenglish8489  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Roy, yup happy to do that. There's going to be a whole video dedicated to unsupported shooting positions and it's a good idea to include trigger control. Remember shotgun triggers are pulled, rifle triggers are pressed 😉👍👍👍

    Excellent info👍 Vin, do you or have you used ballistic doping apps, like chairgun or strelokpro? I use them to find rough data on pellet drops and then fine tune my ranges out in the field.

    • @vincentenglish8489
      @vincentenglish8489  7 месяцев назад +3

      I'm really old school (if you knew my background you'd understand) apps and so on and so forth are great, but what happens when tech fails? I'm a firm believer when rifle shooting be it an air rifle, rim fire or as it used to be for me .308 and .338 nothing can beat getting on a range and seeing what happens at various distances and then creating my own dope sheet. It's a habit I can't and won't break 👍👍👍

      @@vincentenglish8489 Rad! Is there math involved? Or is it done by plotting the actual hits on paper at various ranges and collecting data accordingly?
      If you’re using math equations, I would love to know how that technique is used.

      @@The-Fisher-Boys literally buddy it's putting rounds down range and plotting the hits. When we are talking about centrefire you need a damn fine spotting scope. On Friday I'll do a video showing my way. This will be useful if you have a mil dot reticle. I want to do another video at some point showing how to actually dial in different ranges using the turrets aswell 👍👍👍

  • @paulspeller968
    @paulspeller968 7 месяцев назад +2

    oh yes 50 yards i can dial in on the drop but the wind factor on a sub 12 air gun with a pellet that flys like a bumble bee . particularly if the wind is not consistent that is a different ball game all together. an example of that 50 yard comp 5 shots smallest group wins 4 shots 10mm group thought oh yes bang on 5th shot as i pulled the trigger i saw the wind flag at the back flutter boom that last pellet made that group edge to edge 26 mm and it was a breath of wind not a blast
