Why am I here? I unpacked my old 1984 Ibanez Musician (MC824DS) a few days ago. I haven't played since 2004 (I was working/gigging bassist for the previous 20 years...nothing spectacular, but I could hold my own). I tried to play John Lodge's bass part to the Moody Blues, In Your Wildest Dreams, and I couldn't do it anymore. So, hopefully, I can bring my chops back to a decent degree (not that I, at age 68, have any great need to do so) with your videos for inspiration. Thanks for the videos!
Dude, I love you and your channel. I remember when I first stumbled upon your work, I have to say, I was not impressed. It was at a time when a shit-load of bassists were saturating RUclips (and that's still the case, of course) and folk just wanted to - mostly - shred (and that's still the case too, I'm sure). And I was one of them, figuring I could run before I could walk. And all I wanted to do at the time was listen to RUclipsrs who were tearing it up! But, dude, the way your channel has grown it's like your OWN musical progression was on show as part of the channel's development; like a living lesson in what it literally takes to sharpen one's musical skills. Now I listen to you play and I'm NOW, TOTALLY, impressed, not to mention, humbled, by your dedication and patience, and great coaching abilities, with that calm, and very posh 😊 vibe you have.. Dan,. I take my hat off to you. Thank you. ❤🙏🏽
Great lesson Dan! Maybe you could do a video on typical rhythms for a variety of genres? You touched on this here, but maybe it's worth diving deeper on this topic. Cheers!
What's the story on the Ibanez bass you're using in the video? Sounds great! What model is it? You always give an awesome background lesson to the music lessons so let's hear the stories on your beloved bass guitars that accompany you along your journey.
Thanks! Yes, I will definitely do that lesson. This is a 1982 Ibanez Roadstar. The story is that I wanted to buy a cheap new bass but none spoke to me. I found this one in a tiny shop round the corner from the main megastore. It’s a great bass!

Dan The Man, at it again. Excellent vid as always, thanks.

I just found my online bass guitar teacher. This is incredible!
👊🙏
I would love to see more of this type of lesson revolving around rhythms. Great job Dan.

Thanks so much - very lovely comment! 🙏👍
Great lesson😎🎶👍🏽 Please do more of these rhythm lessons, they are golden.
🙏
Thanks Dan.....always a pleasure.
Love the straight-up practical approach. Rhythm is the essence of bass playing. The TikTok crew tend to forget this.
Thanks
Great lesson, thanks Dan.
Love your work and music as always. Another very important lesson to us bassists on a simple element. RYTHYM is key.
Thanks Dan, loved this lesson - I agree rhythm is a key component. Perhaps you can do something similar for the modes?

It’s a great suggestion. I think I’ll do more rhythm lessons.
This is a fantastic idea. I love to learn the different rhythms
Thanks
Thanks, Phil!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to the new videos.
'Don't do this when you play... I'm showing the beat...' Sometimes I play just like that 🙈😅 without even noticing it
Easy to do!
