Love watching a painting come to life. And I think you got the final blending on the highlights perfect. And seeing the finished painting in the full sun - beautiful! ❤❤
I once saw that there were some clumps of wild yellow poppies when I was driving through a canyon near where I live. So of course, like you, I knew I had to go back and paint them and the mountain background. I am a plein air watercolor painter from New Mexico. Though I use watercolors I still benefit greatly from watching you paint and comment on the process. You are such a fun painter! Thank you for sharing your beautiful country and your painting adventures with us.😊
Oh wow that sounds fantastic! I bet the painting turned out beautiful! Watercolours are tough I don't know how to make them work, so good on you 😊 awww I'm really glad to hear you enjoy my channel/ videos. Thanks Nancy!
You swing a pretty mean paintbrush, I gotta say...although I DO have a question about the wild-colored underpainting: I wish I had been there for that early phase, with the onlookers giving it vague, well-meaning compliments then tiptoeing away, and you knowing all the while the painting was going somewhere totally different. It's a shame those folks didn't get to see the end result. I understand about underpainting darker colors or neutral colors, but bright, fluorescent colors? Did you end up covering those completely or did you let some show through for contrast, or for greying out? Of course, there are abstract and surrealist artists who might have called your wild-looking underpainting "finished". Bob Ross used to say his wild-looking underpaintings were "ready for the museum of modern art", and he would inflect that phrase with a ton of vocal irony. This painting's progression from surrealism to realism was enjoyable to watch, along with your unbridled enthusiasm as you walked us through your process. I completely agree with your take on how it all turned out, great detail, great balance, everything looks harmonious and natural, AND you knew when to push further and when ultimately to stop, which trips a lot of artists up. The third time's the charm with those pesky tree highlights, which ended up looking great!! Nice one!!
Thank you!! Oh so the best way to make a painting pop is painting the opposite colours underneath or if you want a warm painting paint warm colours underneath, and for me I wanted a vibrant happy looking painting hence the crazy colours, although I don't purposely let the background show through it is inevitable that at least a small amount will somewhere so the underpainting really helps it to look alive. I only underpaint if I have a lot of time though. Thank you so much yeah I need to remember to step back and look a little more often.
Love the tree highlights!… it feels like you could just walk into the painting ❤
Well it's dry now so if anyone walks into it it's not a problem 😂😂 just kidding.
Thank you so much 🥰 yeah I'm glad I added the extra highlights 😊

is that oil or acrylic paint? nice work btw
The underpainting ( the crazy colour one) is acrylic the actual painting is oil paints 😊
