Ellen & Michael: Love it when he harmonizes with you Ellen! Congratulations on your little Macy baby! We hope the birth was as quick & painless as possible! Bless you both!
Every time I hear that song, I think of the Sound of Music! Beautiful rendition. My friend Michael was drafted for Vietnam, but they sent him to Germany for his tour. Michael went to see the Sound of Music when it came out in 1965 or 66. The movie was in English, with German subtitles. When they sang that song towards the end of the movie, he saw many Germans break down sobbing. That era, which was not that long ago, was still in their hearts and minds.
Beautifully done! I didn’t know about the Haywood family until after I had been following the Petersen family for a good while! Glad you two beautiful and talented people found each other!
If the dainty white Edelweiß was a princess under a spell, her redeemed human version would look like Ellen: shining bright with fair hair , clear voice and humble nature...so beautiful 🌼
I sing this song every night to my daughter before bedtime. She's 10 and still asks for her lullaby. Thank you for singing this, I cannot wait to show her. She's a big fan of yours.
*Memories*~My 4th Grade Teacher Mrs. Rice who had a beautiful voice sang this song in class. She was my favorite teacher. Sadly when I was in the 8th grade she was in a horrific car accident and passed away. She was just a beautiful, lovely, caring, woman and I shall always carry her in my heart. Thanks for sharing this beautiful song. *Merry Christmas* .
one of the finest voices in bluegrass IMHO; considering just other women for simplicity, Ellen is right up there with Claire Lynch and Rhonda Vincent vocally.
@@richardwallace6313 yes, I see where you are coming from! :) in my opinion Matt has the best voice of them all! I wish they would let him sing more! Haha
Thanks Ellen. What a nice surprise this morning. Sometimes it takes very little to create a little masterpiece. An iPhone, a banjo, a guitar and two wonderful voices. Thank you for lighting up this gray and rainy Italian morning. ❤️
Thank you so much Michael and Ellen. I love these duets from the two of you. Nothin' fancy just warmth and great sounds. More please! God Bless you both.
One of my favorite songs since my 10s and with you both I traveled in time and it was wonderful...what a marvelous voice you both have...and it was a loving feeling in the air around you both...🥰💖
Very nice Ellen! I'm a fan of your Music with the Petersens. Sometimes an iPhone is all you need when the music is perfect to start with! Thanks for sharing this with us!
This was Great! My wife and I toured most of the '80s as a duo. Sometimes with a band, sometimes just with our kids. Watching and listening to you two brought back some really nice memories. God Bless You Both.
My grandfather was a refugee from fascism. This song (in the film) was about standing up against that. In a time when the same forces are once again on the rise, it's all the more important that message not be forgotten.
The Sound of Music is a true classic movie. This song evokes the singing competition at the Austrian festival after the German invasion (The Anschluss).
An especially beautiful rendition of an especially beautiful song. Delightful. I saw The Sound of Music during its first run in 1965. It was my first "grown up" film (I was six) and that last act was intense.
Ellen, that's such a beautiful rendition of one of my favourite songs. I have never heard it with a banjo accompaniment before. I'm impressed by your dedication. You have a night off and still sing and play the banjo! My sincere love and best wishes to you both. Merry Christmas.
Beautiful sung! I like it! As an Austrian I want to share my opinion: Edelweiß is an wellknown Flower and Symbol for clubs, cabins in the mountains,…. It is even on our two Eurocent coin. (Every European Euro-country has their own Euro coins, but all coins are accepted in all states using Euro.) The song is about the great love for our country, but the song is not our anthem!! The first time I‘ve heard about the movie „Sound of Music“ was, when two of my class mates came back from an english course in London (GB). The other students there mentioned the „Sound of Music“ a few times and my friends were so confused, because they didn‘t know what the other students were talking about. Their hostmum cleared them up and they watched the movie with her. When they came back to Austria they brought the DVD and I and some other friends watched the movie with them. But many Austrians do not know the movie at all. But I have heard that some English teachers watch with their students this movie nowadays, so they are prepared for questions from Native English speakers if they will ever meet some. Fun fact: Years later we watched the movie again, because we had an American friend over. He knows the movie by heart and but our german friend (who was there at the same time) is not able to speak english very well, so we decided to watch the movie with german subtitles. But even though on the DVD there are subtitles in many European languages (Czech, Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese and Swedish), German was not included. We were so surprised and on the other hand we thought, that that might be the reason that German speaker do not know the movie!
Nice update from a native Austrian . As an American tourist visiting Salzburg a few years back , there is a special “Sound Of Music “ guided walking tour from Salzburg town center which takes you to the location of all the abbeys , monasteries and the alpine meadow where the the scenes were filmed . I would highly recommend all Austrians interested in the movie to visit it in their homeland !
@@TheGecko213 Yes, people in Salzburg have very likely heard about the movie, because of the tourists and the shops. I have been in 7 of 9 states from Austria, but I never was in the City of Salzburg just in the state Salzburg. If my Canadian friends (Big sound of music fans) come over for a visit, I will go and visit Salzburg City with them! I do live in the North East of Austria so not near Salzburg. But compaired to the USA everything is "near". 😆 We are just not used to drive long distances!
I love hearing this so much. This was my Momma's song. We first heard it when Sound of Music came out in the theaters. Telling my age there! Lol ! When we found the sheet music, this was one she always asked me to play on our piano as we sang along. Such special memories!! Thank you for beautifully singing "Momma's Song " Hugs from Kansas
