I dilute my petroleum jelly with mineral spirits in a bottle, sit the bottle in hot water from the tap and let the petroleum jelly melt. Shake up and use. You can paint it on with a paint brush, leave it for a while to let the mineral spirits evaporate, then pour your silicone on top. You should get a perfectly level layer of petroleum jelly all over. The average crafts enthusiast has no idea how fortunate they are to have all of these fabrication techniques explained in a readily available video. I learned all of this myself *many* years ago with a great deal of research but, about a decade of ago, this information was guarded *jealously* by crafters. In many cases it still is. Kudos to the Crafsman . These folks may not know how lucky they are.

Hey there I just recently got into your vids and I cannot stress enough how much you’ve helped uplift my spirits with your content:) I’m a 17 yr old aspiring artist and i’ve been feeling a bit down about my stuff lately so i’ve decided to look into more art mediums i can try out! I’ve always found figurines pretty cool so i turned towards sculpting and look up some vids to get started. Yours came up first and i’ve been bingewatching since, i’ve have even taken it upon myself to order some clay haha. Really love what you do! Please keep it up, your content is amazing and sends out such positive vibes 🐸

It was very special to read this. Thank you for taking the time to share it. I want to encourage you to hang in there with your artwork. What I like is that you took the initiative to look into alternative mediums, instead of just flat giving up. There are absolutely areas I am just not at all decent at - other people seem to have a knack for it. But I gravitate toward those things that I feel I can work with. What I hope sticks with you is this: I've never met an artist who had success with every project. Usually the successes we see are the few out of the countless unseen "failures". I put failures in quotes because even when I'm working on something that isn't going exactly how I want... my mind is on that project, and not on how I'm feeling at the time, or whatever else my mind thinks I should be worried about. The process alone is therapeutic, and forcing myself to make videos every week has put me in the best mental state of my adult life so far. Please hang with it!

Thank you for watching! I hope you have fun with the Apoxie Sculpt! :D
I imagine you already have a workflow figured out, but my advice I give to anyone using epoxy type clays is to consider an armature if it's a big character or object (because these clays slump more than Sculpey) and also - my favorite technique - think about maybe taking an additive approach. So I'll start with a base, let it cure, sand it, add to it, etc. Hope this helps!
