You are spot on with so much. I have been on my journey for a year now. The more I work with my hair, the easier it is becoming. Also, like you said, as the damage grows out, it does seem to be getting more defined, but really, it's just the damaged bits being replaced with new curly growth. I can't thank you enough for sharing all you do on your channel. You have helped me so much get to where I am now with my curls. I never had curly hair until beating cancer. Once my hair grew back, it was so curly. For 10 years, I just pulled it back, and you can imagine the mechanical damage I had. Thank you for teaching me how to style, maintain, and love my curly hair! ❤

About the hormone question, personally when I was younger I had wavy hair, but when I got pregnant my hair went BONE straight. No joke, so I strongly believe it does affect your hair. Stress can also do things to your hair. Have a few stories about that too...lol 😂

Love this, i have started embracing my natural hair again at age 48 spending many years to ‘fit in’ i remember about 10yrs ago wearing my hair natural to be told it looked horrible and made me look weird! Back to the straightening again. Now am in a better place feeling more confident in myself after loads of self discovery work so decided now is the time just wished i done it years ago ❤

Thank you so much for this video!! Crazy as it sounds- a ton of the questions that you answered in the video-were what I was wondering too!! Especially when it falls to which products are best-especially for curly hair!! Thanks so much!! It is true-ppl so compliment me if I have blow dried my hair and it was really refreshing to hear you response to that and how you explained that they weren’t saying that my hair was prettier when it was straight but it was just different. I love that! You definitely have given me some confidence in my hair. Thank you 😊

My hair was bone straight all of my life, after menopause I now have curly hair. So Hormonal change definitely affects your hair. I've also been a stylist all of my life.❤

My hair actually did that with the birth control pill. About the time I went on the pill my hair began not playing nice anymore - in fact I started heat styling because I lost so much natural texture - but I didn't really put the two together until I switched to an iud a few years later and boom, natural texture came back. So, I'm a believer in that theory for sure!

One of the things that I got was actually the opposite. I straightened my hair once after having my curls for 3 years and instead of "you look better with straight hair", I got more "I like you more with curly hair"
I feel like that played a huge part on my confidence as a curlhead. Sure, I still get some critics (specially from my mom), but I've grown comfortable in my curly hair and I learnt that most of her critics was because she didn't understand my hair. So nowadays I explain it to her why my hair looks a certain way.

I can identify with the comment about feeling like you’re faking it, but I think for me that comes more from the social (media) perception that looser curl or wavy patterns are basically straight. My hair without product still curls/waves the same as with product when freshly washed or after refreshing but after about day 4 of sleeping on it without refreshing it starts to get stretched out. Plus the result can vary depending on the weather and how I wear it. I think that’s why seeing online examples of curly hair content creators with frizzy, slept on or stretched out curls is so important because it normalises the fact that even the curliest or coiliest of textures get stretched out, flat and frizzy with wear and needs all the same techniques and products to get it looking it’s best. No one would comment on type 4 hair channel that your hairs only coily because you use all those products and style it. I’ve seen some fluffy and stretched out coils too.
Thank you for being a great example of loving your hair in all its states, and embracing all the different textures out there.

Same! And I agree that it comes from perceptions on social media and that hair texture/curliness varies from day to day and depending where it is on your head.

I'm 36, and I have just recently started rockin' my natural curls, and I struggle with feeling sexy when wearing them. A few ladies at work have told me I look great, and I've even gotten a few compliments from complete strangers on my curly hair, and yet I still don't feel as sexy in them....I am not giving up though, but it does suck for sure.....😢

She is in ENGLAND... They use pounds ( a different currency... 10 British pounds is roughly $12.75 , US dollars).
