The chorus says that sometimes she can't understand somebody's sigh, but even then it's okay and she will hug them anyway. Because they need it. Because we all need that support at a certain point. The fact that it comes from Jonghyun, we fans know how much songs like these meant for him, and she did too. She tried to sign it at his memorial and she just couldn't finish the song, because she knew. In fact she never couldn't sing the song again in a very long time, until I think last year. She went through her own depression too and she has talked about it, and recently came out with Holo which you should watch tbh. i know you've read the comments and know about Jonghyun, the writer of this song but one very important thing i'd like to add is this: You hear the very last line of the song is "You did a good job". that line is so extremly powerful and heartbreaking because in Jonghyun's goodbye letter, which he wrote to his sister before he died, he wrote at the end: "It's been to hard. Please tell me i did well. this is my last goodbye." It really puts into perspective how much these lyrics came from his heart. He just wanted to be heard.

I remember choking here and there, forgetting to breath sounds something anormal and i use to think it too yet.. I realized years after how much damage i was enduring, it was too much and even breathing became something i had to force myself into, it required so much strength to even breath ... that was the amount of pain I was facing, without knowing what it was.. just gasping for air at the end of the say.... Love to lee hi and to jonghyun that wrote this masterpiece want her to sing it, as she was facing a hard time too and he wanted just her for this song... it was a hug and a "good job" to cheers others but also to cheer himself.

Every song on her Seoulite album is fantastic. It has everything from the gritty "Fxxk Wit Us" to the melancholy "Up All Night" and "Passing By". Then there are the bangers "Video" and "World Tour". In another album " 24°C " She has an awesome song called "No Way". Just last week she put out an OST song (for an animation production) called "That One Word". The depth of Jonghyun's lyrics hurts because I feel like these are the exact words he wanted to hear from the people around him but didn't so he wrote it for himself and for everyone fighting the lonely battle of depression & anxiety. This was brilliantly written because it doesn't even come from a place of "i know how you're feeling" (you can't really explain how you feel when you are in that dark place), but just the fact of seeing that person struggling and letting that person know that you're there,,, a hug... And Tablo jokingly indicated that they didn't tell the boss of YG that the song was written by an SM artist until after he had already said he liked the song. So they kind of got it half approved and then told him it was a song by Jonghyun. Yeahhh there are different people in this MV to represent different status like lower class, middle class, and upper class. Everybody is struggling or in a difficult situation. At the end of the day, we truly don’t know what’s going on in each other’s lives. The brightest/happiest/put together person could be in so much pain in the inside and not showing it. The people who seem grumpy or stressed out can be the nicest people and just openly shows they have a bad day. This is why I try my very best not to judge people by their appearance or attitudes cuz I don’t know they and what they’re going through in their lives. If you enjoyed the visuals on this MV you have to check out the official Holo vid which is not only stunning from a visual perspective but really tells completes the story of the song in a way that the lyrics alone only hint at. Also for a tearjerker check out Lee Hi's rendition of this song at the Golden Disc Awards show shortly after Jonghuyn's death, so brave of her to go out there knowing it was going to be impossible to get through the song without choking up. That performance summed up what I love about her, at her core she is vulnerable but fierce and that's impossible to fake.
Mamamoo, Lee Hi and Yerin Baek are my favorite female singers in Korea their music is always so good and their voices are to die for. Lee hi and mamamoo have very similar musical influences lots of R&B, soul and jazz influences except I think Lee Hi has a greater range of interests in American artists and has worked with so many African/Asian American writers, producers, etc during her career as well when she was in YG and now she’s under AOMG that probably continues to be the case She is definitely well known inKorea but she’s not as mainstream and it’s hard to classify her as kpop outside of her more poppy/retro influenced singles. If you ever get the chance her Seoulite album is very good and Tablo from epik high helped her put it out (Epik High members are like uncles to her 😂 )

I can't imagine having to lose a friend so suddenly only to realise the whys. Depression is very real. I've lost a couple of friends from depression in the last 2 years & never knew why. Mental health shouldn't be taken lightly. Your song kept me going at my lowest. May you be at peace.

i know you've read the comments and know about Jonghyun, the writer of this song but one very important thing i'd like to add is this: You hear the very last line of the song is "You did a good job". that line is so extremly powerful and heartbreaking because in Jonghyun's goodbye letter, which he wrote to his sister before he died, he wrote at the end: "It's been to hard. Please tell me i did well. this is my last goodbye." It really puts into perspective how much these lyrics came from his heart. He just wanted to be heard.

I realized years after how much damage i was enduring, it was too much and even breathing became something i had to force myself into, it required so much strength to even breath ... that was the amount of pain I was facing, without knowing what it was.. just gasping for air at the end of the say....

An excellent video to see her singing live is her singing "Rose" on the show "Begin Again". Her performance of her song "Holo" with the piano player Yiruma is another really good video to check out. Every song on her Seoulite album is fantastic. It has everything from the gritty "Fxxk Wit Us" to the melancholy "Up All Night" and "Passing By". Then there are the bangers "Video" and "World Tour". In another album " 24°C " She has an awesome song called "No Way". Just last week she put out an OST song (for an animation production) called "That One Word". Her duet with Henry Lau in a burger joint (Henry x Lee Hi : "Like I'm Gonna Lose You") is another fun video to watch.

The depth of Jonghyun's lyrics hurts because I feel like these are the exact words he wanted to hear from the people around him but didn't so he wrote it for himself and for everyone fighting the lonely battle of depression & anxiety. This was brilliantly written because it doesn't even come from a place of "i know how you're feeling" (you can't really explain how you feel when you are in that dark place), but just the fact of seeing that person struggling and letting that person know that you're there,,, a hug... Can make a big difference. It's a reminder that we should always be kind to one another. Thank you, Jonghyun.

Some said that it’s the song Jonghyun wanted someone to sing/tell him to, that’s why he gave it to someone else to sing. Lee Hi now is at AOMG, Jay Park’s label and she’s doing great. She said on an interview that she suffers from anciety she couldn't breathe so someone told her about this song but that the author was from another agency, she and her team reached out to him and they arrange to get this song. He wrote it to give peace of mind to those suffering. To tell them they did well at the end of the day. Jonghyun was amazing like that. Lee Hi did justice to this mastermind. I think this song was the first and last collaboration of YG and SM artist, Jong hyun had chosen the best vocalist that suited his song, Lee Hi successfully let us felt the emotion/feelings that Jong hyun might wanted to speak about, but unfortunately can't, our poor boy, I remember Lee hi performing this song at SMA, everyone was so emotional specially her, she almost didn't finish the song. This song can serve as a tribute to all the 2nd gen artist that passed away because of depression. They will always be remembered, hope they can breathe now, the way they wanted to, in heaven.
I can't find it now. But, IIRC, there was an interview with Tablo and Lee hi around the time the Seoulite album (which Breathe is a part of) came out. And Tablo jokingly indicated that they didn't tell the boss of YG that the song was written by an SM artist until after he had already said he liked the song. So they kind of got it half approved and then told him it was a song by Jonghyun. Interestingly, one of the first things Lee Hi did after leaving YG was to collaborate with Chanyeol, another SM artist, as a featured singer on his song "I'm Yours".

Yes! She's like the queen of duets. Her recent duet singing "Because I Love You" on Begin Again (with the singer Choi Jung Hoon of Jannabi) is beautiful. Her "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" duet with Henry Lau is fantastic. And her "No Way" duet is one of the best ever.

Yeahhh there are different people in this MV to represent different status like lower class, middle class, and upper class. Everybody is struggling or in a difficult situation. At the end of the day, we truly don’t know what’s going on in each other’s lives. The brightest/happiest/put together person could be in so much pain in the inside and not showing it. The people who seem grumpy or stressed out can be the nicest people and just openly shows they have a bad day. This is why I try my very best not to judge people by their appearance or attitudes cuz I don’t know they and what they’re going through in their lives. Just like in the song and what you also said in this video...take a break from your day and just BREATHE... life can get difficult and things might not be going the way you wanted. Be grateful that there’s a tomorrow to wake up to cuz honestly people really do take things for granted..the simple things too.
When this song first came out, I was excited because it was a SM (RIP SHINee’s Jonghyun) x YG ( Lee Hi) collaboration. Thanks to Tablo (EPIK HIGH) who at that time was the CEO of YG’s sub-label HIGHGRND (they closed that sub-label after Tablo decided to step down as CEO and EPIK HIGH left YG not too long after that). YG CEO appointed Tablo to Lee Hi’s comeback in 2016 and honestly Tablo really did such a better job than YG. The funniest story was when YG CEO heard the song, he loved it and asked who produced/composed the song...thinking it was Tablo or yg producers. Tablo said it was SHINee’s Jonghyun who composed and produced the song and it shocked YG CEO. LOL...but he still approved the song cuz it’s a great song. But yes Jonghyun’s message to everybody was felt and understood...it really did give you a WARM HUG. Lee Hi sang it passionately and genuinely cuz she relates to this song. Honestly, Lee Hi is one of my favorite female vocalist in the Korean music industry... she has so much range and genres that you haven’t heard yet. So yes pls react to more Lee Hi. She’s finally spreading her wings nowadays since she signed with AOMG, which I feel is the perfect fit with her. I know ppl like her singing in her jazzy/pop genre or ballads...but dude her R&B/hip hop influenced songs or collaborations are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I think that’s her element right there...she has SOULLLLLLL in her.

Also for a tearjerker check out Lee Hi's rendition of this song at the Golden Disc Awards show shortly after Jonghuyn's death, so brave of her to go out there knowing it was going to be impossible to get through the song without choking up. That performance summed up what I love about her, at her core she is vulnerable but fierce and that's impossible to fake.

Mamamoo, Lee Hi and Yerin Baek are my favorite female singers in Korea their music is always so good and their voices are to die for.
Lee hi and mamamoo have very similar musical influences lots of R&B, soul and jazz influences except I think Lee Hi has a greater range of interests in American artists and has worked with so many African/Asian American writers, producers, etc during her career as well when she was in YG and now she’s under AOMG that probably continues to be the case She is definitely well known inKorea but she’s not as mainstream and it’s hard to classify her as kpop outside of her more poppy/retro influenced singles. If you ever get the chance her Seoulite album is very good and Tablo from epik high helped her put it out (Epik High members are like uncles to her 😂 )
