@@boxcutter56No? You commented AFTER he did so it was much later than two hours
I hope you see this comment Kosmicd or anyone who can answer this. How do you do that where the game randomly changes
I wish you could watch each game back individually and see Mario suddenly make weird decisions mid-level.
Oh man that would be so cool!
I mean they could edit it like that but it probably just wouldn't really be worth it for what would come from it.
@@CeeJayThe13th knowing the context it would be worth it
I was thinking of making that.
@@undercomposition I comment for update if it's done one day
it's really interesting the way this technically gets easier the more games you complete, but really starts to feel more difficult as the games left are the later levels of the games you struggle with the most
While getting exponentially more tilted

Imagine how crazy it’d be if it randomly transitioned into the 3D games as well.
The entire Mainline Mario Marathon 🤔
The 3D games would last significantly longer for sure, but that would be pretty cool regardless.
@@NOT_A_ROBOT That would take wayyy longer than 24h lmaoo

Which controller would he use? Not a bad idea though
A switch during a pipe transition would be hilarious
Mario but everytime I go into a pipe it switches games
@@cuddlecakes7153 Everytime you enter pipes, enter doors, climb a vine, or clear a level.
I love how it almost becomes a form of psychological warfare. You're constantly paranoid about when the next switch will happen and which game it'll be, and it causes things like panicking during a boomboom fight.
This is incredible. The Boom Boom death in particular shows how this format forces speedrunners to actually *play* the games instead of relying on memorialization and practiced technique. I'd love to see this in a race format, where the games switch at the same time for both runners.
I also like that it encourages strategic play to select a safe spot, rather than rushing ahead
I love how relaxed this guy is. It's fun to see a speed runner who occasionally plays some casual games and comes up with interesting challenges for speedrunning purely for fun. It's also cathartic to watch a speed runner struggle to beat a game normally.
Watching this without paying attention what's a shuffle and what's a jump cut edit
The shuffle is a really interesting idea
Yeah all the cuts kind of breaks the immersion of the shuffles having an effect on his gameplay.
@@surestab Yeah, this is one of the few videos where the editor is in a bind, because everything he does makes it worse. I kept having to rewind 5 s to see if the skip was Kosmic getting juked by the game or just a cut by the editor. I might have to go watch this on the VOD if there's one available.
I found the beginning a bit confusing, but from World 8 in SMB I felt the edits started flowing much better.
@@CatCube2 That's a great idea! I'll have a look for one too.
Gotta keep one eye on the facecam the whole time to tell lol
Also hi MT, first Reddit now youtube! You really are everywhere
I love how smb2j is sapossed to be harder yet he struggles with smb2a a lot more
Because Doki Doki Panic! Isn’t a real Mario game
@@imprincesswolfy2565 why would that make him struggle more with smb2a?
@@mariesyvian8187 would Kosmic be Global Elite or Radiant because he speedruns SMB1 and SMB2? No. Same with that non Mario game Doki Doki Panic!
@@imprincesswolfy2565 I don't understand what you're saying
Also as far as Nintendo is concerned, SMB2A is a real mario game
@@imprincesswolfy2565 It's a Mario game, I know it doesn't feel like one. But it's a Mario game and I think most people agree that it's a Mario game, even if it is just a reskin of DDP.
It would have been hilarious if the end screen of SMB1 kept coming back and you just had to wait it out.
Agreed. One might call it a waste of time, but I think it would be amusing just having to sit there in anticipation. Having no idea what's coming next, or when. Especially since your hand might be off the buttons, making it that much more awkward to suddenly need to be doing whatever the next game throws you into. Not to mention that wait would be nerve-racking because you would be focused entirely on the wait, rather than being focused on the game you're playing in the moment.
I actually love how sometimes your inputs for one game go through the other; it makes it feel like there's a momentum there and you're literally running between universes or whatever
It's hard to tell what is happening when you constantly cut and shuffle games and you can't tell the difference unless you stare at the timer/webcam
They were pretty easy to catch up with him commenting over what he's doing
Amazing! I wonder how many possibilities there are... Imagine going from SMB1, to Super Mario 64, to Mario Kart 64, to Mario teaches typing, to Hotel Mario, to Super Mario Odyssey!
13:53 The genuine fright 😂
I want to see someone load 3 Zelda Randomizer Seeds into this emulator lol
You mean like this: ruclips.net/video/FFPFInO0-XA/видео.html ?
That would be amazing
I wanna see him do this twenty times in a week and see what his actual best speedrun is.
Because I like seeing Kosmic in pain.
Now that is one chaotic ROM hack! Very entertaining! Glad it wasn't me. Haha
16:15 That seriously shot my adrenaline up! Don't tease us like that! LOL
It’s actually not a rom hack, instead a emulator plugin for Bizhawk called “Bizhawk Shuffler”. Works with any number of games across a wide selection of consoles. Anything Bizhawk has support for should work
Protip: In a game like this, the jump cuts make it a really confusing video.
In a game like this, a game like this makes it a confusing video lol
the timer does help though lol
You could see it all unedited on twitch
@@ilan6291 My solution would be to use a wipe instead of a cut for editing, so the change in game due to an edit is visually distinct from a change due to the ROM game-switching.
They just did a Mario all stars shuffle in AGDQ 2023, but honestly, this is much more impressive. Switching every 1-15 seconds is so much harder than the 30-60es sec switch. All that is to say that I’m still so impressed by this run!
16:15 “Should we tempt fate?
No! What are you doing?
🤣😂🤣😂
Crazy how you didn't game over, not even once! You truly are an elite speedrunner, Kosmic
dude, one of my fave vids of yours, this was a hilarious game play idea! this is prolly just cause I'm coming off watching the various smb races from sgdq this year, but this game would make a sick live race!
6:13 man jumped on a spring in Lost Levels and lands on an airship in SMB3
Ohoho money moment! 😂
imagine he goes in a pipe, it swaps to another game, and when he's in a transition in that game, it swaps to the one he previously went in a pipe in. that would be sick like a pipe leading to another game
Suggestion: Release only the parts from one game for each four games.
His commentary would make no sense
It will just look like he's bad at games / having a stroke
I love this idea!!
But it would be worth it to see him play badly. In particular, he should at least splice together all the SMB2 USA stuff.
Over the past month I did exactly that. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/p/PLaA7qgonsxRG5lemDwUctzOdtxoIKnZ6f
Each shift is like waking up from a dream - “Aw man, I was just about to do this thing…”
13:03 about that trick, it can be done in the All Stars version, SMB1 you can do it like in SMB The Lost Levels, the difference is that the Hammer Bros in SMB1 are static in one place
"Here we go, it has begun, we have at least three seconds of SMB1"
bars
This is a really neat gimmick, bet it'd work well for a ton of different platformers. Could see sonic 1/2/3&K/CD being fun to do all at once.
i think someone already did that although i'm not sure they included CD
there's one where it changes when you touch a ring
12:54 i died of laughter at that part 💀💀💀💀💀
Did you recognize whether you're in SMB1 or SMB2-J just as instantaneously as with the visually different SMB2-U and SMB3 or do those take a couple more moments to register? Just wondering because that feels like something I'd struggle with but you've obviously played both of them a LOT.
Outside of maybe water levels since those are the only stages that remain visually completely identical between both games, if you become familiar enough with both games it's not that hard to tell which game is which, Lost Levels has so many slightly altered sprites that it ends up looking and feeling fairly distinct from SMB1 (the best word I'd use to describe it is it looks more "rugged"), especially in overworld and underground sections. Even in water levels the HUD text at the top has shadows in Lost Levels whereas SMB1 does not. So with enough familiarity it becomes nearly as easy to identify which of those two it is as with the other two games, just takes some getting used to. No problem at all for Kosmic, I'd imagine, with all his experience.
Speed running it aside, I feel like the hardest part of this would be the constantly swapping jump mechanics between the various games. Each Mario game had its own precision during jumps and having to adjust on the fly like that would mess me up horribly.
"I want anxiety personified in all the NES Mario games."
This is like that episode of Futurama where the time kept jumping. Remember how the Harlem Globetrotters kept skipping ahead and could keep the momentum of their game going?
"Let the games begun."

This program seems hilariously amusing. I'm no speed runner, but I still think I could have a blast messing around with it.
Dude, if you mastered this, I would watch the crap out of it at GDQ. That's freaking cool.
I expected this to be funny. I did not expect it to hurt my sides. Good grief. Top shelf entertainment right here.
Im Dying Laughing When A Retro Mario Games Randomly Switched.
These are your dreams when you don't get enough sleep.
It'd be cool to see the speed runs spliced together from this
I think you confirmed that SMB2U is the hardest of the original NES mario games
it's just because there's limited continues 😂
I love your Mario videos🔥 Keep up that great content
This is legitimately stressing me out to watch. I can't imagine trying to play this.
This randomizer is my spirit animal.
Catch phrase for this: "So we're doing this now."
I mean when random bull crap shenanigans happens all the time, it's a wonder you're able to complete it at all
Kosmic did a fast accel so hard he jumped 2 games into the future.
This is the gaming version of context switching at work
>1: already completed
>3: very far in
>2j: about halfway through, and carefully navigating through a challenging stage
>2usa: very first stage, having died like 10 times so far
Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like there's certain games he's better and worse at....
how wild! i can beat each game individually just fine, but i think i'd be throwing so hard just trying to switch game logic on the fly over and over.
51:16 on game timer. Best death ever LOL 🤣
I really love the idea and concept. Great Job!
Its crazy how Super Mario Bros 2 ended up being harder than Lost Levels, a game that never made it TO the states BECAUSE of how hard it was.
This is awesome. Always wished Nintendo had this feature in Mario Maker and released actual remakes with these modes
12:11 i love that series
Man. I remember playing and beating all these games with only a pause button.
Kosmic still beats all 3 games faster this way than I do playing them by themselves lol
This was a blast to watch :-). Thanks for putting yourself through the torture for all of us, and for taking it so gracefully.
Accel so fast Mario went several years forward in time
Looking at you laughing while being absolutely destroyed by the game really brings an unexplaiable cheer~
The truest joy of gaming is when you can laugh off failure, rather than flip out over it.
I've seen this be done with Fire Emblem and Pokemon before, but never a real-time game like Mario. Neat.
I saw it was done with 8 games including: Contra, Mario, Adventure Island, Ninja Gaiden, Chip&Dale, TMNT3 and others.
You can only choose real-time games for this challenge.
It took me a while to realise that there were also jump cut edits, and it wasn't only the games switching. "But this wasn't where he stopped in that game! How? Does Mario move while he's in another game?" Silly me 😃
I love how god gave us all fingers so now we can play mario
That was wildly entertaining. I'd love to see you run this whole thing again some time.
I don't think I've seen SMB2 in like 15 years. God that was a good game. Weird, but good. Being able to pick up P2 was the best thing ever.
I'm impressed Kosmic managed to retain his sanity throughout this whole ordeal!
I could call this game:
Super Mario Bros: Time Warp!
Stupid idea: I assume it would be possible to "seed" the shuffler so it's consistent in how it shuffles between games. So...new speedrun category!!!
Cool concept! If I can figure out how, I might yoink it for a different franchise 😂
Finally. A Mario game for kids with ADD. Just what we have always needed!
I watched full version on Twich. Thank you! You can have switch run between Dr. Mario and Yoshi's Cookie or another Mario NES Spin Off
aka you're just trying to play some Mario, but Sans keep teleporting you all over the place
lol
This looks like it would be incredibly fun/torturous to do with Mega Man 1-6.
Coolkid ripping his hair out watching this video.
Lol, it's true. I couldn't function in smb2 for some reason. Maybe some day I'll properly learn it
This is a good challenge for professional gamers, playing Super Mario Bros game with random switches and speed runs. It does take good skills so you don't die between each different Mario Bros game in the speed run.
SMB2 is tougher than people give it credit for
This Takes Multi Tasking To A New Level
If only it were a feature in Mario Maker.
Kosmic is both quality and quantity.
We need this but with SM64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1/2, and Odyssey lol
(1:24) Yep, you only get 2 continues in SMB2, which send you back to the very start of the world (and they can be wasted if you're still in world 1).
(1:28) And, you skip right by a grass patch that contains a valuable 1-up, next to the POW block at the top of that stack of platforms.
(5:50) SMB1 clear! Not surprising that you finished that one first. I'll bet right now that SMB2 (U) will be the last one to finish. (My prediction turned out to be true.)
(6:41) Okay, you got that 1-up this time.
(8:34) I don't think I ever knew that hidden power up block was there! (Or, if I did know in the past, I had completely forgotten about it.)
(9:38) Nice door placement. I've done that before. Fortunately, the game still lets you enter it when that happens.
(11:17) Yeah, a few mushroom blocks in that jar-filled room of 6-1 are booby trapped, and you'll get unavoidably smacked by the emerging Cobrat when you lift it, unless you "disarm" the trap by throwing another Cobrat at that jar first to kill the hidden Cobrat lying in wait ahead of time. (You don't need to enter any "trapped" jars to get the important things anyway. The 7th jar from the left is safe and has the 1-up(s), and the 5th jar from the right which has the key is also safe.)
(14:44) Not taking the quicksand shortcut in SMB3 8-2?
(15:05) SMB2 (J) complete!
(15:58) "So long-ee, Bowser!" SMB3 is now done, and you can play SMB2 (US) normally!
(17:28) Welp. I guess SMB2 (U) isn't exactly your forté.
(18:36) And that's game! SMB2 (U) is finished!
7:52. STOMPED!!!
10:20 CHOMPED!!!
I never understood how such a great speedrunner could be so bad at casual gaming
17:09 suicidal Birdo!
This is basically Super Mario: Edge of Time 😂
i like the layer of strategy this adds.
The last time I played SMB2-USA, I was down to my last hit before a complete game over. Wart was down to his last hit. Wart won.
This might be even better with SMAS-y versions.
Getting Everything Everywhere All At Once vibes this is excellent
Am I the only one who thinks Lost Levels is more like a DLC for SMB1 than a sequel?
I really appreciate the designer of these games, Shigeru Miyamoto makes games he thinks are cool vs other companies making games they think we want. Zelda and Mario are his, I didn't check others. You're buying a nintendo to play some Mario lol
Would love to see a tas that plays all four games at once
Lol, so world-famous speedunner Kosmic just sucks at SMB 2 it turns out. Tough game, I’ll give him that.
This is such a unqiue concept i love it
Congrats on beating SMB2! That's a really hard game!
Man, the RNG luck in this one was definitely not what _anyone_ expected!
Here I thought The Lost Levels would hold the deadliest surprises, but here Mario 2 is with all its next level cucks.
