At this moment when a little nostalgia approached, I caught my eye on your RUclips window, passing by a mysterious algorithm you don't know. Just because the thumbnail caught my eye, I accidentally saw your video, and I liked it the most and fell in love with your channel. Hey boys, that‘s great. Sam! Your Voice goes into my heart. Dear banjo player! Your backup is number one. Thank you both for that Cover! With best regards.
Okay my mind is blown. For you non musicians out there, Sultans of swing has a straight up Flamenco Chord Progression set to a rock and roll rhythm and pop sensibilities. But the song is about going to see jazz bands in London at the height of the punk scene. So it's a pop song written in a rock style with Flamenco/Gypsy chords about going to see jazz bands even though punk is the popular style and it features an outro solo that is straight up influenced by 70-80s era metal. And these dudes are doing a country version. Except that this is way to fast and complex for country so really it a bluegrass version of a pop/rock take on flamenco about seeing jazz in the midst of the pink movement. Well done. And that solo at the end was sickening. Bravo.
Saw Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys recently at their gig in Biddulph, Stafordshire - they are absolutely fantastic. I have bought their latest album. Also Jamie Francis's solo banjo album which is brilliant - my first banjo instrumental album (there are other supporting instruments on most tracks). I'm a guitar and piano player but am now looking around for a decent quality banjo to learn on. Many thanks to Sam and especially to Jamie for the musical inspiration. This cover is superb - both the playing and singing are of superlatvie standard. Really enjoyed this performance.
Two generations in my family find this amazing and awesome! And the arrangements show very creative talents. Being from the USA Carolina bluegrass area, Francis's banjo work would be greatly appreciated. My hat is off to the creative style and talent of San and Francis.
Seen or heard every version of sultans and nearly every cover available on RUclips. This is THE freshest by someone not named Mark Knopfler or Josh Turner
Dear Mr. Editor of this video... I don’t understand why you cut to a close up of the banjo player’s face at the beginning of the solo... especially during one of the best guitars licks of all time. I wanted to see how he did it! Maybe your wide shots were out of focus or shaky?! Oh well.
What camera/lens was used on the close-ups? Particularly the Jamie Francis fretwork ones? It looks like a 50mm wide open (1.4?) but then on the wide shots there's no sign of any videographers getting too close.. Is it a fast 100mm at a distance? :) That aside, great cover!
Surely, Mark's dreadful pseudo-American Dylanesque delivery is the worst! What a refreshing change we have here,. This guy sings very well, and sounds English! Now there's a novelty!
One of the best "alternative" covers, excellent.
wow.
hey banjo guy. this is awesome
this banjo is at the level of deliverance dueling banjo

Such brilliant banjo playing! It works really well with the cover.

Actually its Folk :)
and the band was blowing Dixie
You certainly have a way with words! That was a dizzying description of their performance. Well done!
absolutely brilliant, on both parts. amazing
Amazing! Such a strange experience to hear a familiar song for the first time all over again. Beautiful. Genius. Them's some fast fingers.
I wasn't sure about it at first, by I am digging the performance. Some pretty slick pickin going on guys! Cheers!

Wow it's amazing super very good singer and both superb playing 👌👌👌👌👍👂👍👍👍👍💞
Nailed it...brilliantly executed.
Any chance of getting the banjo tab you are using? This is excellent.
Great voice and banjo

I'm going to start learning it on banjo. That was fantastic.
Beautiful ! Houwaou !

first i thought the banjo was bit too much, but holy shit he nailed it at the end...and ur version by singing it so slowy is just so nice !
AND, without Mark's Dylanesque American delivery!
NEEDS MORE BANJO
Love your vocal. Felt banjo was kinda intrusive over the vocal but wow, a freaking awesome finish guys. Thanks

Brilliant. Mark Knopfler should take banjo lessons, would have improved his act (not that it isn't great already). :D
Chords!? Great Cover though!!!!
You should ask Harry because apparently he knows all of them
possible the get this verison without the banjo?
Absolutely butchered. Turned an absolute classic into a completely generic sounding pop song.
vocals are the worst i ever hearth
And what can you sing then?
“Hearth” hahaha. You’re a tool. And your comment is the worst I’ve ever readth

What for a great cover of this classic Dire Straits song.. Great job.
