you are my favorite pedal reviewer I have ever seen in my entire life. I usually hate it when people talk in pedal demos but your commentary is the best mix of informative and hilarious. Incredible, best pedal demo I've ever watched out of the thousands I have!
What about the B7k Ultra? Did you try this one too? I still can´t decide between those two. Maybe i order both and send one back.. i really like the Vintage Ultra but most people seem to use the B7K Ultra. :)
Tone Hammer i agree they both sound amazing i cant make up my mind! i like the warmth of the vintage but i also like the modern distortion sound of the b7k ultra.
yeah but i want a full preamp for my studio..not just the overdrive. Also i like the extra options of the deluxe versions. Sometimes there are B-stocks not much more expensive than the regular vintage/B7k
I think it still sounds better with a cab sim, but you're right; compared to other bass overdrive pedals this really sounds good straight into the interface. I run my B7K Ultra into a cabsim if I'm recording at home because it's less fizzy and it helps me cut through a little more.
I would love to see you review the Aguilar Tone Hammer...as I understand it less about a warmed mildly distorted sound then an incredible large tight and granite like clean sound. I find the Sans Amp type pedals can make the tone thin ans nasal sounding
@@EytschPi42 I play bass in a band that has only one guitar, so I need something that fills the mix as well as cut through it. I want to make sure that I am making the right choice.
my only bitch about this pedal is simple I wish they made a favorite switch on it instead of a distortion feature because even tho the cleans on this pedal is good a bit of gain would be amazing and having the favorite switch I could add the gain and high end on a different setting. until than I'll be using my tonographic Rusty box with my bass overdrive but for real tho I love this pedal. I use five pedals and one of which you should demo the TC electrics bass compressor on the trap door setting it really brings out my tone and makes a huge difference. also I use a neunaber slate for effects when ever need be in use.
Me personaly i would change the bass and the treble on an active guitar for clean tones and cut it if overdrive/distortion side gives more :) But i think i will buy this pedal vst version from Neural DSP
Got a Hard on for Darkglass stuff! but I think for overdriven sounds a ProCo RAT Pedal is somthing realllly special on Bass so special its stopping me from picking up any Darkglass stuff, I was after the Alpha Omega 900 Head to replace my Ashdown Mag 300 Evo II Head. looks like an amazing head. wish the RAT pedal had a MIX knob. I don't play metal though, think more...Failure, AutoLux , Joy division, APC, TooL
So Henning, your channel is for Metal/rock guitarists right... I am a jazz upright bass player and jazz guitarist. And yes I am hear for the gear, fun... and jokes.
Liam Keaney that's great Liam... thanks for hanging out... but I wouldn't say that it's all rock and metal... I try to be stylistically diverse.... I try!
Just ordered the smaller one Vintage Deluxe Version 1 for only 249 Euro some days ago :-) The great sound is the same, only some knobs less(ly. Hi Leslie) ;).
Late to the comments but here is my 2 cents worth. You have to use a computer the control the headphone volume , it needs a know as it silly that that you need a computer to control a basic function. I cant be used with a phone not tablet the control the headphone volume and load Cab sims. And can but used as an Audio interface for a DAW. A a basic pedal, yeah it makes a nice sound but even when this pedal came out much of its function was out dated. If you think you might use this a as a practice amp, it not useful and they would have been better off not putting thew AUX and headphone plugs in the pedal and its a frustrating experience.
True, but I think the diversity of darkglass gear is grossly underrepresented! I'm not a big rock/metal guy but I think their 900 head and all their preamp tech has this delicious modern tone that makes all the technique stuff, harmonics, slap, melodic playing/soloing really crisp and clear. I'd say it's their focus on mid controls, marcus miller is always talking about the importance of mids for slap tone rather than the standard roll off and whack approach a lot of players go for.
@@Yellow_Magpie That's what I am saying, I am late to the party but I am getting this baby up here for sure....I believe it's gonna serve my passive Jazz real justice!!!!

For whoever has doubts about whether to get this pedal or not, the answer you're all looking for is at 27:13
I was on the fence up until the 27:13. I immediately stopped what I was doing and bought one
please henning, more bass stuff...
Accidentally skipped the video to 27:14 while trying to re-size the video, was not disappointed haha :) great video as always Henning
Playing with the pick sounds like "Heart of the Sunrise".. RIP Chris Squire.
Love the sound of this pedal!
From all the fretless community : Thank you !

Don't forget there's the B3K too, with the B7k sound for less money!

I can imagine the Vintage in Metal also very well....but yeah maybe you are right :) definitly have to try both
Tone Hammer It could do metal tones like iron maiden which aren't overly distorted
Probably the best drive-pedals and preamps for bass on the market right now. Their amp is also absolutely badass and so is the compressor pedal..

It sounds great. Does this DI get the Ampeg sound that people talk about? I'm a bit of a novice, so thanks.
I think it does

How does this compare to the sansamp vt?
this is way better
@@EytschPi42 thanks for the fast response :D Great videos BTW.

One has to ask: would James Jamerson have been a better bassist with this gadget?
In Jamerson's time you might have quipped "Paul Chambers didn't need no Precision Bass!"

I run my Rusty Box and Vintage in stereo. Amazing combination. Get more low mids and grit from the Vintage, get the top end from the Rusty. OMG.

I completely agree. Thanks for the great reviews Henning!
Does it make any sense to put the b3k in front an SansAmp RBI Bassdriver?
Das G. You may wanna try the opposite. I personally use the b3k as my ‘clean’ sound and use another overdrive before if I want more grit

😂 Legend... I like this one from darkglass. I am so confused, they have so many
so you are that one german guy with the sense of humor! i was looking for him! found it, i can die now

that pedal is hot! thank you for the demo... next time grab a jazz bass...lol or next time have Kiana to play bass
“No markings on the side.” Ummm...we can see the side dots.
markings as in fret markers
You're right - nobody wants to hear slap. Darkglass products are mostly used by rock guys with no interest in slap nonsense.

yo viendo un pedal de 500lucas que nunca compraré
I really appreciate your review, but please, try to play like a bass player sometimes...
I do
My lord, turn the treble down
That pedal is phenomenal, but that sweater you are wearing is atrocious... throw it in a garbage can and set it on fire. LOL!
Sounds dreadful .
