This is important to be here in this video WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BXX SERIES AND VINTAGE SERIES? Main difference is the voicing post overdrive: The BXK/U are voiced to be very aggressive and percussive sounding. The words punch and attack come to mind when describing their character - whereas the Vintage is more focused on the mid range, providing and mildier, warmer and creamier sound to the overdriven signal. www.darkglass.com/faq/
Awesome comparison Erik Arkö! They are two flavors of great... Kind of like chocolate and vanilla. That said, I luv the BK7u in grunt mode. I'll have to see if I can achieve something similar with my Aftershock. Thanks again. Best comparison I've I've come across so far.
Personally, i find myself using the b7ku more, even thought the b7ku's type of drive seems to be more subtle than the vmtu. Which is kinda cool in the sense that I can hear more of the low end and midrange of the clean signal
Soiled Shorts Yeah, I've mostly been gravitating towards the B7k myself as well - but I've been finding myself enjoying the warmth and the sound of the VMT more and more lately! :)
The vmtu is definitely something i go for if i want varying degees of tube-like warmth and grit as well. If you start to really push the midrange and drive on a vmt, you're getting into meshuggah territory. But, my inner tool fan just wants that b7k grit tho!
Elie Haddad Myself, I like to use a LOW Drive setting on the B7k for the Harris-tone, but I have a feeling that both should work just fine for that, actually :)
I just got the Vintage Ultra, and i want the other Darkglass Overdrives distortions too, do you recommend i get the b3k and alpha omega or the b7k ultra v2 and AO ultra?
I'd say that You could go with the B3k and the Alpha Omicron, as you already have a four band EQ on the Vintage Ultra :) But, if you want more EQ options of the drive circuits, I'd say go with the Ultra versions! :)
Awesome video, dude! I have the B7KU, and a VMT, so, theoretically, I can say I have both pedals. In terms of drive, considering the fact that I play fusion (or something along those lines), the VMT is my pedal of choice, as it does anything I need it to. However, I do love the drive in the Ultra, it's just that I don't really have the proper context to use it.
BlagaDanutz I can relate to that! With Structural Disorder (my Prog metal band) the B7k works wonders and suits the soundscape perfectly - but with Six Feet Deeper (The band that plays more "straight forward" rock) the VMT is the sound to go for, imho. With that being said, it is nice to be able to vary the tonal pallet whenever one wants to :)
jim claypool Myself, I’d go with the Ultra. The clean side of the preamp is REALLY useful imho - and if you play with a clean tone from time to time (as I do) you don’t want to be without it :)
Hey did you noticed any 5db boost in B7k than B7k ultra? Because someone said that there is 5db boost in B7k which makes it more aggressive than B7k ultra. Did you noticed anything like this?
Excellent demo of both pedals! This helped me to pick out the Vintage Ultra over the B7K Ultra. Both are excellent I just prefer the Vintage Ultra. The truth be told, I'd be just as happy with the B7K Ultra. Thanks for a great demo!
Frosty95361 to my ears, the vintage lends itself to more of an old school, fuzzy and warm tube sound, whereas the B7K is more tailored for a modern, cleaner sound
Well I must say I actually preferred the Vintage Ultra, weirdly 😅 but I may add that the song you played for the mix and start of video was great, really showed them off in a way that wasn't stereotypical of darkglass! 🤘🏻 great video man
I like them both tbh! :D They are great for different things - but I find myself gravitating towards the Vintage Ultra more and more when I'm using the Yamaha Bass, actually :) Glad that you enjoyed the video and the song, bro! :)

Thank You Lou! Glad that you enjoyed it! :)

Erik your videos always look so good! What camera do you use and what is your lighting set up like?
Ian Flürrance A Panasonic LUMIX G4. My lighting consists of the light in the room - which is NOT ideal. Gonna work on that :)
Great to hear!! Glad that I could be of service! :)
Hi Erik! Which one (b7k ultra or vintage ultra) would be better for Steve Harris tone? Thank you
Elie Haddad Myself, I like to use a LOW Drive setting on the B7k for the Harris-tone, but I have a feeling that both should work just fine for that, actually :)
Erik Arkö thank you!
Awesome video!! Very well done!!
Where can I get the Lenny poster?????
Thanks bro! At Hellstone Music in Stockholm:)
Hey Danny it's LeMMy !

Erik Arkö thanks man, also just received the bb734a based on your vids! Phenomenal bass
Awesome!! It's a GREAT bass! I usually keep it tuned to BEAD - which it handles like a dream!
Erik Arkö rad! One last question.. how do you like the pickups? Would you recommend any others thanks!
JAMES LUKE I like them! They’re a nice and modern contrast to the DiMarzio Willpower one in the Attitude LTD3

GREAT REVIEW!!! one question: For an "Lemmy Kilmister´s" bass sound, which one do you recommend?
FiskoChico Thanks! I’d go with the VMT for a Lemmy sound, as his tone was basically an insanely loud Marshall amp :)
Thanks for your reply!!! Best regards.
Hi Erik! Which pedal would you recommend for a Tool bass sound?
Mariano Solari I’d go with the B7k and its more aggressive drive :)
Hey i just want to know that does B7k and B7k ultra sounds same at same settings without those additional mid toggle switch?
To my ears: yes! :)
So what do you think what should i get? That B7k ultra really worth 400$ for only those mid switch and another foot switch? Or should i buy the B7k?
jim claypool Myself, I’d go with the Ultra. The clean side of the preamp is REALLY useful imho - and if you play with a clean tone from time to time (as I do) you don’t want to be without it :)
Well cool thank you so much for your suggestions :D

that bass was played with lots of attitude
u did it :)
AJ Great!! Hope that it serves you well!! :)
Not watched yet but I shall let you know what I think Erik 😏

Erik Arkö No worries and yeah I dunno why I preferred it because I've always wanted a B7K, but I did definitely prefer it
I record metal covers and have these pedals as plugin. The vintage sounds better 99 times out of a hundred.
👍👍👍
Bajale un poco a la mezcla boludo! Tenes la guitarra al mango y no se escucha nada el bajo
