I love the very kind way you say getting support or helping to process something instead of saying something like you need professional help

Craft supplies. I have made my own greeting cards for my family for decades, but now there's just too much paper clutter and time involved with this craft. So just this week I made the decision to stop making cards entirely. Instead I will send a small gift card for a coffee cafe, that they frequent. An actual plastic gift card,, feels more like a real gift, (than an email gift card.) So that is what I am sending., They are so busy with their own families, that what they really need from me, is a coffee break, and not more sentimental cards, that they will feel bad about throwing away, because of all the work I put into the card making. It took me a long time to realize that this craft was not serving anyone any more..not me and not them.. It felt like a weight off my shoulders, when I finally made the decision this week. ( ps I found other uses for the remaining card crafting supplies, and that made me feel a little better )

I'm so happy you were talking about the container concept. I have many things but I don't have clutter since I use this concept. Everything has a home. It makes it easy to recognize when a container overflows and needs to be decluttered.
By container I mean a box, a shelf, a drawer, a table and a room etc.
I have a candle on my coffee table. If I see anything else on it, it's a cue to myself to put it away.
In my morning routine I walk through my flat and pick up and put away what's needed since I lack the energy later in the day. Since it's a daily routine it's never overwhelming.

A light came on for me when I realised that beyond boxes and drawers as containers, the whole house was indeed a container in its own right….. and it was definitely too full, lol!

I have cleared out so many estates in my lifetime. Extremely Wearying . I am still closing hubs “estate “, A lot of work for an impoverished academic! I have given away thousands of books , papers in the past six months. We had only four weeks from diagnosis to an agonizing death from Glioblastoma brain cancer . It was and still is a living nightmare. I have entrusted his mementos and photos to his family. He did not have any children. Every item was a knife through my heart. I am grateful that I am an organized minimalist and do not wish to leave such pain for my children.

My condolences to you. This must have been a very traumatic time for you. I have been through closing two homes/estates and that’s one of the reasons I persist here. Having no children, I don’t want to leave a huge project for my designated executor/beneficiary.

that is so loving of you, to be aware of how much work it would be for your own children, If they were in that position.

I’m so sorry for such a shocking loss. I’m sure you’re working so hard, and can only imagine how hard it is. Try to be kind to yourself, ok?

I'm so sorry for your loss.
My only experience of dealing with an estate is after my father in 2018. He made it easy for me and my siblings. As he and his wife down-sized, he made his and his wife's children take part of what they decluttered at each step. What wasn't claimed he got rid of.
His wife died 2 years before him. So her part of the estete was already cleared.
At the end they lived in assisted living. It took me and my brothers 2 days to clear all. We saved photos to a later day. I took care of the papers to legally close the estate (bouppteckning in Swedish).

Just a question. All the other videos I watch on RUclips are actual videos. But yours is now a podcast and I have to go search to see the actual video. I’ve been able to see the videos until just a few weeks ago without having to search for that version. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Linda! We’re still a webcast with video. YT is now also posting an audio file separately. If you go to my channel here, then click on the “Videos” tab, you can see all the videos posted in date order with most recent first. You can also go to the CF website at www.clutterfairyhouston.com and see posts on the website that link to the YT video each week. If you’re ever confused go to the website and look at the most recent posts there to see the most recent show.
