    All you proved is that the winch pulls less as the battery gets lower. lol.. The ground is too random to get any accurate results anyway.
    The traction should be relatively the same, because the weight of the truck doesn't change.
    So you're adding more surface area touching the ground and each square inch will have slightly less pressure: but the net friction will still be the same. Airing down doesn't give you more traction.

    Enjoyed the experiment . I’m inclined to think that if you had placed the tires on a new patch of ground with each psi change, you would have likely had different results as tearing the ground the first time takes more pulling force (or less)
    Cheers

    airing down does make a difference but it is very dependent on the surface your winching from. hard solid ground you get more but some ground you get more pull if the tire can get cut down into the ground

    I think if you winch yourself out lowering tire pressure helps you more since grip is better when you help yourself with accelerator a bit.

    I'm thinking the test is flawed after the first pull on both vechiles, the first pull got to have unbroken ground under it, both second pulls had broken ground under the footprint of the tire, should have reset both vechiles on a new track for each pull, the broken ground acted like a skid at that point

    So will a heavier vehicle with a winch be able to pull more, or does vehicle weight even matter?

    • @shannonsachon5327
      @shannonsachon5327 21 день назад

      That is my thinking as well. You saw better / higher numbers with Matt’s Jeep since it is heavier due to his modifications. IMO the black Jeep or any other Jeep will have better numbers if you can anchor the vehicle to a tree or other vehicle or use scotch blocks like Matt demonstrated

    • @OffRoadRecoveryLLC
      @OffRoadRecoveryLLC  21 день назад +2

      Yes weight will allow a heavier pull
      On average you expect to see 66% of the vehicles weight as anchorability
      For example his black gladiator should be roughly 5,100lbs so if you use the average of 66% it’s 3,300
      He was close to that
      Heavier the vehicle also means easier to sink in the swamps so you have to balance it out
      Also the higher the winch is from the ground adds down pressure to make you weigh more during a winch
      So taller vehicles also can winch harder

I used mine to do that as well as take of all the seatbelt dings, the door open while idling in park ding. I can run my fog lights with my brights, I also set it so both seats heat when the vehicle is started. There is literally about 100 things you can do with it. For a couple hundred bucks I love it.
