    Hunting rabbits in th UK with high powered lamps and lurchers (hunting dogs). Its a method of rabbit control used throughout the UK.The lamps are used to find the rabbits, sometimes the rabbits will sit very still hoping you you dont see them but unbeknown to them there eyes will glow red when the lamp shines on them. The dogs often used are called lurchers but hunters will also use other sight hounds like whippets to catch the rabbits. Most importantly the dogs need to be trained to come back and to retrieve the rabbits and to be stock trained. The law on hunting with with dogs has changed alot however you can still lamp and use dogs to catch rabbits and rats but not fox, hares or deer. However lamping has been given a bad name due to poachers using the method to catch a meal or two without the permission from the landowner.
    In this hunting video we are lamping rabbits at night with my cousins working lurcher Lass. She is salukigrey x collie grew. He is using a clulite plr500 to spot the rabbits and im using a lightforce striker 170 with a 100w bulb to help light up the run for better filming.
    The area we are lamping is well known for the abundance of rabbits and the farm we are on is no different. The landowner wants the rabbits controlled and lamping them with the lurcher is a very efficient method. We can cover a lot of ground quickly and this is the last time we can run the dogs near the sheep.
    We struggle getting runs to begin with but find the rabbits at the back of the farm. Where we havent been yet this season. Lass the lurcher was picking the rabbits of one by one. The rabbits have very few chances of escape in the stone walled fields.They can either go back to the warrens they have come from or have holes through the walls they often use and might slip under the gates.
    The terrain at the back of the farm is really rough and would be really dangerous for a dog that didn't know how to slow down. Lass has been hunting this place for a few years and she's very aware of the dangers and obstacles. So she runs clever and is almost watching ahead of the rabbit to watch for dangers and this why she has never been injured.
    On this night lass caught 41 rabbits. She retrieves everyone back to hand usually alive and Brandon dispatches the rabbit.
    It was a great night.

    Seen loads of lamping Lurchers over the years but this 1 has some engine evan towards the end still fresh. Probably the best lamping video I have seen I no how hard it is getting footage in the dark.

      Yes it's a real struggle getting good lamping footage. Thanks mate. Lass is a good dog and like you say she's got plenty of stamina. Her best was 74 rabbits in one night. I have just seen a dog has caught 100 rabbits in one night. That's some doing.

    I've never seen anything like this before but it's very entertaining watching a skill from the old ways when hounds truly were a man's best friend. Watching that amazing dog run those rabbits down and then bring them right to his master's feet. Here in America we use beagles to track and push the rabbits while the hunters try to get ahead of where the rabbit might pass by for a shot with a shotgun. Rarely does a beagle catch one unless it's a wounded rabbit. Nice to see how it's done in other parts of the world.

    • @reynoldsoutdoors3055

      Thankyou mate. I have watched some of the videos with the beagles hunting and again it's great seeing how different dogs work. I can imagine the adrenaline when you here them go. Any RUclips videos you reccomend watching.

      ruclips.net/video/wvBSD8uchcA/видео.html This is a pretty good hunt from the state of Missouri where I live. This is not my video and normally when we go rabbit hunting it's not with this many dogs. I've never hunted with more than 4 dogs. Most of the time 2 beagles or even 1 is enough to push rabbits around for a shot.

    • @mohunter68
      @mohunter68 5 лет назад

      ruclips.net/video/TQ91GG7aLek/видео.html This is not my video, but another classic rabbit hunt here in America. You can see how thick the brush is where we hunt rabbits and without the use of dogs and shotguns these rabbits would be almost impossible to kill. Hope ya'll across the pond can enjoy these videos and see how we get it done here. To a country boy like myself the sound of a pack of beagles chasing rabbits is music to my ears.
