I was at the islands when I was 12. Seeing a football field in the middle of very rough terrain, always stuck with me. It looked awesome!
Not as long as they think it's normal to slaughter hundreds and hundreds of dolphins in one day and still kill whales. It's beyond sick.

Awesome video! one reason as to why there arent many faroese ponies left, is because in the 1800's, when there were about 800 of them, most of them were moved to britain to work in coal mines where many of them died :(
So the Brit’s didn’t keep breeding them, they just worked them to death. Just like what they did to Ireland’s forests. Chop it all down and use it up and don’t replant.

They look like a X between a Shetland pony and an Icelandic horse. Never heard of them before.
They are the wooly mammoth of ponies with their perfectly evolutionarily designed compact and well-furred ears. What gorgeous landscape and people. Thank you so much for taking us along on this wonderful journey!

I discovered this channel by accident. Being a horse lover since I can think. I own my Arab mare for 18 years and we both have retired a year ago as I fell sick 2021. Spending most of my time in hospital (unfortunately). But I have time to watch this channel and I’m so happy with every episode. Elisa, you’re not only a good looking beautiful young lady, I also love the way you lead through the program. My favourite video was the island pony ride, together with the big herd, for one week. This would be my dream holiday! I’m 69 and know I will full fill the island dream when I have reincarnated on this beautiful planet earth. Love hearing about & learning about the different breeds. I'm surprised that the pony breeds are having a hard time multiplying, you would think with inflation it is much less expensive to breed& maintain the smaller breeds than the larger,also they have a longer lifespan to grow with your famiy.
I really love your quest to ride every single horse breed that exists. So maybe this is interesting for you: One of the most endangered horse breeds is the “Senner Pferd” from EastWestfalia in Germany. The breed is over 800 years old. There are only under 60 of them left. Some of them are stabled in the “Freilichtmuseum Detmold” (Open-air-Museum) So if you are interested in this breed let me know.
I'm a 3D artist and trying to raise attention for the faroese pony with the help of a selfmade 3D model and animations. I hope more people will help to save this horse breed!
I go riding there a lot. It’s so fun to ride in the mountains with Anna Louisa . I was meant to go today because I am working on a project about these pony’s but due to the weather we sadly can’t 😢 maybe tomorrow 😊it’s so nice that she lets you brush them before you go riding bareback. When I went there we had to wear these special trousers even tho I had jodhpurs on
Wow! I'm so happy I stumbled upon your channel! The Faroe Islands is one of my dream destinations to go to, and I'm just so in love with the Faroese Pony! I grew up riding Icelandic Horses, and this little fellas look like their smaller cousins! I'd love to go there some day and see them in real life. There's something so incredibly beautiful about such old pony breeds that's been formed by and for the environment for thousands of years.
Even though I'm mostly into showjumping nowadays, I gotta say there's nothing more beautiful than these type of breeds like the island ponies and mountain ponies in their true natural environment!

Australia has a couple of horse breeds of it's own too... Have you been here to Australia? Three horses I know of are the Brumby, the Waler and the Australian Stock Horse.

Fun video, was looking forward to a little more breed info, and maybe more of why this place, people and ponies impressed you. Like do they have silky hair? Extra hard hooves, are they easy keepers? How do they stack up as a horse to own and invest in?

It would have been especially nice if you'd explained about that pointed stone cairn atop that "mountain" (I would have called it a little rise, but then I live rather near Mt. Shasta in California, USA, which is MUCH taller than that!)
All along the mountains you see them. They are called “varar” and are used if you get lost in the mountain, they will lead you back to the road:)

Thanks for watching! Because of the low breed numbers, they haven't been able to breed specifically for gaits, but they have found the gait gene in some of the population and are hoping to have more info on that in the coming years!
Lovely scenery and cute hairy ponies. I would have appreciated more information on the breed and its history. And - but this might be my laptop - the sound was at times not ideal. Hard to pick up the voices over the music.
Do they also have riding pads for the ponies? It sounds wonderful to go on a trip there some day and ride them. I‘m not very tall and not heavy either. However, that also means my seating bones migjt be very painful for the horse. I‘d hate to cause them any pain

Welcome to the channel! I met them when I was filming in Malaysia, but they are still on my list to ride and film for the project. Hoping to feature them in Turkmenistan. :)
In the South of Greenland 🇬🇱 there is a small breed of horses. They were initially imported from Iceland many decades ago, but have since developed independently of the Icelandic horse. According to a local vet, they differ from the Icelandic horse in having a tighter build and heavier winter coats. They are used on sheep farms to round up the sheep when the lambs are taken to slaughter. They are considered horses not ponies. Not sure how many horses there are in the South. I had one of them as a kid in the 1970s.
A few years ago, three young women decided to open a stables right here in Nuuk (the capital city). However, as I understand it, they imported their ten horses from Iceland, not the South of Greenland.
They look like Icelandic horses.

Here is a little info from Fjallaross that talks about why: "We believe in keeping the ponies in their natural habitat and interfere as little with their physique as possible. This is why at Fjallaross you will be riding on "bare-back" (without saddles) and learn that the ponies can thrive without the use of horseshoes. "

80 or so ponies is a small genetic pool. I'd think about careful outcrossing to prevent genetic problems.

They are very similar. The Faroese is shorter than the Icelandic. They do have tölt, but not the flying pace, I believe.

Hmm maybe introduce Shetland as it might be too inbred with its numbers so low. Is there a stud book?
I love what shes doing. I hope some of them get released back into the wild when their population increases, there are little to no wild horses left and that's just so upsetting...

That’s what I was thinking! I think those are maybe suitable for kids but most adults are to big D: Im surprised they offer tours with them… Weird way to treat the last ponies of their kind
Although Natural Natives and Strong - it Dosent mean that adults can or should ride them. Children & young Adolescents yes, but if 'Ones legs dangle well below " - then it's quite obvious - walk beside them - Don't ride !
They will have a weight limit, and only walk.

While the Faroe Islands only scream bloodshed to me by now, the ponies are still very cute

The Faroese people are going extinct never mind the ponies. Sadly, they having been importing Far Eastern women as wives for a couple of decades, thoroughly messing up their own bloodlines.
Put down a lot of korean and world's stock. And d'ont raise it up. This is right in Jesus Christ~! 🐢.......
