  • Asics Novablast 4 vs Saucony Ride 17 Comparison Review (NO CONTEST) - welcome back to another video and today I am sharing with you my comparison review thoughts on the asics novablast 4 vs saucony ride 17. Both of these shoes turned up within a week of eachother and so far with the early testing I have done, I can confirm that despite the fact that they may look similar in terms of stats, the rides of the shoes are totally different, and there is a clear winner for me so far.

    The Ride 17 might be my first Saucony shoe. The Nova 4 looks less nimble than the Nova 3. It’s why I didn’t pick it up yet. I’m waiting for the Superblast 2. I got another pair of the Superblast instead of the Nova 4.

    I bought the Novablast 4 and immediately returned them. They were not comfortable to me and if this is what the Superblast feels like, I not missing anything. I have the nimbus 25, cumulus 25 and I love both of them.

      Other way around for me, cumulus and nimbus are off my radar now

    Great review. You nailed all the important points; even some I hadn't thought of. I'll definitely consider the Ride 17 after my Deviate Nitro 2's are done if I need a more cushioned shoe. Currently, I'm rotating the DN2 with the Noosa Tri 14 and Hyperion Max.

    With no endorphine line update in 2023 and an upper update to the Triumph it’s really just been the Kinvara /Pro from Saucony. I was surprised to hear you give Saucony your brand of the year Andy (it’s felt like a down year for them - I thought the End Elite was a 2022 release?).
    My expectation (from the running event) is Saucony will be unleashing new Endorphins and a new Triumph 22 in Olympic year, so will really be pushing forwards next year for the every day runners whilst Nike/Adidas clear up the medals in Paris with 9 stone East Africans who run a 130miles per week…
    Your point about the Triumph 20/21 is really insightful. I agree with you totally that I can feel the 10 mm drop in the triumph, it’s ok but I wonder whether they’ve done that to tip you forwards slightly?. I have a v20.
    Having worn ASICS exclusively 10 years ago when I was running more competitively I thought they would really push on this year having lost market ground. In some ways they have but they are pricing themselves above other brands (Nimbus £175) as the high end true quality runners runner product. I’m not convinced yet. They have utilised their firmer foams well in the Superblast but I’m not going to spend money on a Novablast watching your video and can get more excited about a Ride 17 than a cumulus 25. I think ASICS really need the Meta Speed update in 2024 to be highly competitive with other brands super shoes. Otherwise despite their build quality ASICS run the risk of loosing ground. This Novablast needed to offer value and quality. Saucony do appear to be standardising power run + as their base foam. What are ASICS doing to offer value? This Novablast is now heavy with better rivals. Unsure you’d have said that after V1. It appears because ASICS want you to part with nearly £200 for the Superblast. They needed to uplevel the Novablast and give themselves a design challenge with the Superblast 2 but they’re anlways unlikely to divert consumers into a “bargain” Superblast in this new Novablast. I’m not down on ASICS but like the Ride 16 the Novablast 4 (which I’ve not tried) looks a mis step. Welcome other views!

      Novablast 4 is a hit. I've worked in running retail since Nova 1 and the 4 is the best selling by far already. Don't infer all your info from shoetube reviews.

    • @kaprikornian1
      @kaprikornian1 8 месяцев назад

      @@QronoZ713 No surprises there as the "novablast" is a popular line. If people generally like it or not will probably be felt in the NB5.

      Interesting perspective.
      In returning to running I did a gait analysis with multi brand. Cumulus 25 was good but not stand out (I used to wear cumulus/Nimbus). I didn’t try the Novablast. Its trampoline effect seems to have attracted people but stability and grip are repeatedly question marks.
      I do give more weight to what Andy says as he’s 86-88kg with size 13 wide feet. I’m size 11.5-12 so not dissimilar. Ultimately RUclips offers a range of insight that I’m my experience you’d need an excellent running store assistant to match. Not every store can offer this…

    Another great video Andy.
    How does the Ride 17 stack up against the Ride 15? Love the 15 and you can pick them up for under £65!

    Great review. Definitely interested in the Ride. It’s a shame you’ve got large feet as the weight for your size blows my mind! I struggle to work out what it will be for me in an 8.5!

    Interesting. I had a pair of NovaB 4 and sent them back. Not what I wanted. A lovely shoe, but I’d only use it for long/steady runs and I already have something for that. May try the Ride at some point - thanks for your opinion, another good video!! 👍

    Ride 17 is going to be very popular next year. It’ll be like what Triumph 20/21 has been. I guess it’ll be wise to pick up a pair of NB3 on sale.

    Interesting. The Cumulus uses the exact same foam as NB4. FF Blast eco. So must be the pure gel you're loving. Very interesting.

    Anyways, with more thajn 35 years of experience as an athlete and elite trainer, my advice will always be to avoid runningshoes with a drop any higher than 4 mm, 5mm if you absolutely must have.
    Save your calfs, save your achilles (intimately related), save your natural biomechanics, when you have been running for 20, 30, 40+ years.

    Nice review. The Ride 17 is on my wishlist especially as the drop is 8 mm (compared to 10 for Triumph 21). I have the Brooks Levitate 6, and I think it'd give a decent fight to the Ride 17. Any chance of comparing the Levitate 6 & the Ride 17?

    I always tell new runners, try Saucony expressly the ride.
    I heard a lot of people did not like the 16. Don’t know much about it but I tell people new runners specially cause I’ve ran in it. I said the ride 15 is comfortable feels good almost does everything especially a new runner would want and I also steer people away from Pegasus. Peg 38 felt like a brick

    I have triumph 20s and really dislike them as my ankles roll in them too much so by 5k I’m in agony. If ride is using the same foam does that make ride a no go?

    Fit - Ride 16 was narrow for me. Triumph 20 and 21 perfect. How wide is the Ride 17?

      That's interesting. Ride 16 was excellent fit for me. Triumph 20 upper felt so tight when new that I almost sent back - but after the first run it opened up and is fine now. Probably due to us having different foot shapes.

    • @colinmadbeast
      @colinmadbeast 8 месяцев назад +1

      Ride 17 is way more generous fit-wise.

  • @timtrenholm3698

    It's too bad Saucony seem to love their super hard and shallow heel pockets. I can handle a hard heel pocket which is deep, or a shallow heel pocket which is soft. But both hard and shallow just aggravates my heels after 10-12km. Realize this is mostly a "me" problem, but still sucks.
    Soon going to need a new easy/pure long run shoe, since my Nimbus 25 and Invincible V2 are getting long in the tooth and as my fitness continues to improve seem clunkier and clunkier shoes.
    Ahhh....1st world problems eh?

    Novablast might be my least favorite shoe to run in ever. It’s so slappy, feels like I’m hitting the brakes with every stride. Never had that with any other shoe.

    Why buy an illegal shoe as an amateur runner? You might get a PB ... but in an illegal shoe.
