I like that idea of using the same products for 3 weeks in a row. I’ve become a product junkie since my big chop and would end of switching products every week. But I realized when I used the same products for a full month or until the product was finished it was better for the health of my hair. Plus you get to see what really works for you
I love the proposed idea. I can especially appreciate using a product over time. As a product junkie, I usually use a product and move onto the next one. I've probably used the perfect products for my hair on wash day or another. I just haven't stuck to one line or product long enough to realize it.
I gotta say - I love how many of us just can’t stop buying products. We should probably start a support group lol. And thanks! Yea my issue is racking up all of these products and never getting through them. Between that and the duel wash day series, i think it is helpful for people to see the results over time, and it frees up space for me to get and try more! I totally get your point though - you really can’t tell which products are best for you if you don’t use them consistently. I’ll probably never go as far as to do that, but as long as you use a selection of great products you should be good 👍🏽
Hi! So I definitely didn’t have excessive flaking. Outside of the minimal I had at the end of m video it has not been a problem. (I just shook my head vigorously, got a bit dizzy, but no flakes fell). I’m 5 days post wash day and my hair isn’t VERY well moisturized but it’s not dry. Also definition pretty even on each side where curl maker side had more time of the video. I’ve heard from others that they had moisturizing wash days with this line but day 2 their hair was incredibly dry. I can see that, but mine is not too bad. I keep hearing about people having to wash badly working products o it of their hair. I could’ve even imagine doing that mid-week!
I’ve been looking for curl maker can’t find it at Target. To prevent flakes make sure you are pairing leave in with the right gel. I think I will pair curl maker (when I get it) with her Honey Step 1 leave in (and I won’t add the other 2 leave ins)
I love Camille Rose my hair really liked them in the beginning of my journey. Camille Rose is pretty pricey , I will be trying them out again soon to see if I still love them. You know our hair tends to change what it likes lol....
Thanks for pointing that out, they are unreasonably pricey! I would say if you are getting your products from the drugstore, Camille Rose is probably the best available in terms of quality. For me, I'm glad I tried it, especially that Algae DC, but a few days post wash day I was getting better results with the other brands I've been using. for like $97 for a wash day, I feel like it should be among the best in terms of results. I expect I won't repurchase, but still think it's a brand worth trying. and again, they are readily available. haha yea I was all Shea Moisture during my transition. my hair would slap me cross the face if I were to start using that on a weekly basis. lol thanks for the feedback :)
Lynne Gadson I used CR curl maker for the first time this weekend. It has lots of glycerine - so we had a humid weekend- and of course my wash and go shrunk up. I didn’t mind that though. it also made my hair soft. If you want hard hold try wetline gel. I have a big tub of it in my bathroom and I don’t know when I will use it again. Maybe I’ll use it the day before my wash day . It gives you strong definition. I don’t know how healthy it is though.
I'm so glad that you got around to reviewing Camille Rose! The algae renew deep conditioner smells like mint chocolate to me, lol. There are three leave ins in that leave in collection and unfortunately the latte is the one that gives the least moisture. I've seen videos where folks will say that the latte define formed a film over their hair and that makes me wonder if you got the flakes and frizz because it was keeping the almond jai from absorbing well into your hair? The leave in collection has a "honey hydrate leave in conditioner" that is literally the most moisturizing leave in I've ever used and it gets really good reviews; just in case the product junkie in you is interested, lol.
Mint chocolate?? Lol I’ll have to go smell it again. I didn’t get a hint at all of any mint! Crazy how people perceive things so differently. I don’t even know why i should bother giving my opinion on smells haha they’re normally just weird anyway 😆 Of course i got the one leave-in that provides non-moisture. That really was a rough experience. It’s like it was fighting back as I tried to apply it. I was really just trying to purchase products that had the same packaging. I purchased from Sally’s and that was actually most of all they had, and it was the only leave-in. Probably should have given the product selection more thought. However! I did a quick quiz on their website after you left your comment earlier and i was recommended to get the signature collection (plus one DC from the around the world collection. But it was the protein treatment so i found that weird. I need moisture.). The flakes ended up not being a thing after the initial final results, but that would make sense, maybe it was the latte. My hair is not very moisturized right now, 5 days removed, but it’s not bad. Will see how the next 2 weeks play out! You know I’ll end up getting that honey leave-in... 🙄
I actually used the whole leave in collection together for the LCO method. Worked wonders. My hair is high porosity so for it to still be moisturizer three days later is unheard of. Used the almond jai for my twist out and I’m beyond pleased.
are you getting hold? i maintain and will continue to maintain that the products do great stuff for your hair, but can't hold a set more than a minute!
Uptight Curls by Amanda ok- so this is what I wanted to tell you about this week’s wash day experience. I did a wash and go. Actually received a nice compliment from another lady. I was visiting family in Conn- so I felt this was the easiest thing to do. I used Camille Rose products (honey leave in and her curl gel). So my wash and go was not stiff and as it dried it felt soft to the touch. I decided to go to bed with a plastic cap under my bonnet (trying out this green house effects thing I heard about this week)- I think you should only do this with healthy products in your hair. On day 3 - my strands were moist from sleeping in plastic cap. Darn our hair takes long to dry! Lol ( did not need to wet hair again) I added the CR twisting cream and some Shea butter on my ends and it seems like now the products soaked into my hair. My 4C low porosity hair- actually looked shiny. So I’ve learned that my hair can’t handle much products on day 1 - but day 3, it will be receptive to the butters and twisting creams. I also get to wear 2 different styles in the same week. And I guess I’m kinda working with what my hair wants to do.
Uptight Curls by Amanda today was proof. I did such a great smooth Bantu knot. No hold with the CR And my hair looks like a lioness. I should have just kept the wash and go. Plus i worked out And twist could have used another day to set. Weather is also humid, I know this also had to do with the high glycerine level in the products.
I'm never looking for extra work either lol! And I really like this series idea! Funny enough I actually try to do something similar whenever I use new products lol!
Lol idk who is but we probably couldn’t be friends 😆. and thank you! looking forward to doing this. terified of this perm rod set thing but guess I’ll see. and maybe I’ll be an expert by the end! 👍🏽
I agree with showing how products work over time. Through the years, there have been products I loved on the first use but over time, my initial hype would turn into a no. Almost forgot to had that I tried CR products for the first time this past Tuesday (Ginger Cleansing Rinse, Honey Hydrate, and the Almond Jai Twist Butter). Also purchased the Algae Renew DC Mask. Of the 3 products, I've used so far the Ginger Cleansing rinse was my least favorite. Not bad but it just didn't wow me. Liked the hydration that I got from the Honey Hydrate and the Twist Butter. Only two complaints were 1) the vanilla scent from the Twist Butter is a bit overpowering. Not in the jar but definitely on my hair. and 2) on Day 1, my hair was soft but also felt greasy.
Totally agree on products changing over time, that’s why i like to have so many! (That and i just love hair products). I’ll admit, I’m not a great “judge” of shampoos. I can tell if something is stripping, moisturizing, or anything obvious, but in terms of one shampoo working better than another, I haven’t had any wow experiences that would indicate “this is better!” Other than, again, moisturize. I love moisture. And i love it at any step in my process! I can see what you mean about the ginger rinse. It was just really “mild” to me. Potentially feeling like it was doing nothing. But i don’t think that was the case because my scalp would have been itchy the following week. The honey hydrate and the twisting butter to me are intense with moisture. I agree the twisting butter has a strong scent but for some reason scents just don’t last in my hair so it didn’t bother me. I can maybe understand what you mean about the grease. Maybe like a hint of a filmy texture with the products, but i know I put on way too much and i didn’t experience it any of the other weeks so chalked it up to that. Thanks for the feedback! Always love hearing how they products work on other people’s hair
aw thank you! this series should be fun, i'm looking forward to repeating products! scared of my first perm rod attempt. I don't want to go through the week looking a fool and I feel like that's where i'm headed...
@@UptightCurlsbyAmanda ROTFLMBO!!! Girl mine was a steaming hot mess!!!! So was my attempt at flexi rods, wave formers, bantu knots, etc! I'm only good at twist outs lol.
Same!! I have a feeling this perm rod set in 2 weeks will have me looking a fool. But maybe by the 3rd attempt I can figure something out! Flexi rods look like too much of an attempt at modern dance and i can’t move. Wish me luck on my rods! 😎
Thank you! Wasn’t sure it would hold up, but so far 4 brands in, seems to be working! Definitely a better experience for me so I’m glad my viewers like it too :)

Taneisha Johnson I don’t really understand how the Honey leave in is great to use during the winter months, because honey attracts moisture from the air into your hair so if the air isn’t humid then I dunno how the moisture is gonna get in JS
lol i'm terrified of doing a wash and go. I'd have to prepare beforehand on what I would do with completely shrunken hair on day 2. I did (do? i'm not entirely sure haha) have a plan to attempt my first wash and go at my 9 month post chop mark. Be a nice milestone hairstyle. I think about how my hair looks after like 5 hours of deep conditioner though and I feel like it would be similar. I have very inconsistent curl definition, and a lot of frizz so I feel like it would be a disaster... but i'm going to do it! hah I had also in fact thought about it in this context and thought i'd do that instead of a perm rod. I appreciate this little nudge. I think I will do this. 9 months will be some time in November so I'll need to time my brands to ensure I'm using a collection that is good for wash and goes ;)
Uptight Curls by Amanda as a natural (2 years and counting ) I started with wash and goes (they weren’t the best. Lol - but they were easy for shorter hair) I am now just learning about “prayer hand method and shingling” - lol. All due to new Quarantine hobbies. Well- those techniques didn’t matter when my hair was short - because I guess I was putting enough product - but as my hair grew I realized my hair wasn’t clumping because I didn’t put enough products. You literally have to have soaking wet hair and drench it with gel. Then I would go out with dripping wet hair (🙄) I learned about the benefit of a defuser dryer. I have a better one for you- I’m thinking about getting the deva curl hair dryer with green nozzle that looks like fingers. That way you can gently dry and stretch your roots without drying out your ends. Of course- no real natural would leave without warning you about the dangers of heat. Although- I was watching Green Beauty (she’s like a scientist RUclipsr) with hair like ours- and she actually recommends some stretching and light heat for type 4 - low porosity like us. Check her out. She’s living in Hawaii now. It prevents single strand knots that our hair type is notorious for.
@@mauricawilson6206 shingling sounds AWFUL lol is it incredibly time-consuming? Well. Pretty much like every other style i do, but still. Yea from what i understand and have seen re wash and goes you have to SLATHER that gel on. And that never sits right with me lol it also looks really uncomfortable while waiting for it to dry. I’ve only seen Bianca Renee use that devacurl diffuser. Looks intense. I’d have thought that was only for a looser curl patterns. Green beauty overwhelms me with all the science lol i agree it’s totally user friendly idk what it is about her videos. I’ve only just recently been experiencing intense single strand knots. But i think it’s because my hair is now long enough to touch my shoulders. Idk how i missed this comment, I’d never seen it lol I have a bunch of your comments to respond to, i got backlogged, but I’ll get back! Love your engagement and our little chats :)
yep. That was news to me a while back as well. if you get it from a brick and mortar store, I believe you can return them. For anything bought online, I suspect that’s not possible (or worth while), but some states and areas do have product swaps where you can bring products you don’t want and you can barter for others. Sounds like a great idea
I do! Sorry it’s a long video, had to explain a bunch of stuff so racked up the minutes. I explain it in this video below, but very quickly, I keep bands at my roots as preparation for my twistout. I did a video first on barriers to a quick twistout, then my experiment to achieve the quickest installation, then finally demonstrated in the video below where I show my pre poo routine. It brought my whole twisting process down from ~3 hours to 1.5 (took an hour 22m last week 😉) I put chapters in the description. I reference this in my final results ruclips.net/video/au1uUQsdcuU/видео.html
haha curly/kinky/coily hair is a lot of work!! me of like 2 years ago would never have done ANY of this stuff! but if you experience tangling at all when you wash your hair, i would in fact highly recommend a pre poo. if you don't do twistouts I wouldn't suggest you do the whole banding nonsense that I do, but everything else helps so much. thanks for watching! and i'm very excited for this new series :)
i just got the camille rose sweet ginger cleansing rinse. I am having a protein overload and online it said it didn’t have coconut oil but when i picked up my order from target coconut oil was listed in the ingredients. i’m now wondering if i wasted my money as i’ve heard coconut oil can retain the protein in your hair :( and i’m not sure if i can use it? if someone could help or maybe even answer my question it would be greatly appreciated as i’m new to this whole protein balance moisture balance stuff :) thank you
Hi! Unfortunately i don’t have the personal experience to answer this question, BUT! I reached out to a friend who i thought might, and she has some advice. Pasting it below. I hope it helps! “In my experience, because coconut oil actually penetrates the hair shaft, it goes in then prevents (because my hair is ultra low porosity and will only allow a low amount of anything to penetrate and the coconut oil exceeds that quota) any other ingredients (including the very moisturizing ones) from penetrating my hair shaft, my hair gets shiny the day of usage then hard until I use a clarifying shampoo to remove the coconut oil from hair shaft and “open up the way”for more moisturizing ingredients to penetrate and truly moisturize my hair. She may want to try the Moisture Love shampoo as it clarifies without leaving the strands feeling awful. If she has low porosity hair, the Mane Krush black shampoo bar is also decent but I haven’t used it consistently enough to say I prefer it or that it’s better than the Moisture Love shampoo bar. If she has high porosity, I would recommend the Honey’s Handmade Honey CoWash. That thing is amazing (even on my low porosity hair) but I can only use it after a wash week with products my low porosity hair loved/liked because it wouldn’t be clarifying enough. But if she has high porosity hair it’ll do the trick. Finding shampoos not containing coconut oil based products is a pain in the butt BTW”
@@UptightCurlsbyAmanda one more question if you don't mind. What brand is the moisture love shampoo bar? is the brand name actually moisture love because i can't find it, but once again thank you so much for your help!
Hi! Yes that is the name. Here’s the link to their IG if you want to see their social media, and you’ll find the link to their website in their profile :) instagram.com/moisturelove?igshid=10vu7up0xf7cw Thank you for subscribing, and welcome!
@@alexissmithemailindescript5981 I know this is months after you asked but if you have high porosity hair, you don’t need to be concerned about coconut oil unless you’re allergic.

Brian Lee thanks Brian!! I will definitely clear this up in my next video. Couldn’t find anything generally on the site mentioning this so made a wrong assumption. May have to check some of those out
I think yes. It’s a brand with one all in one product and it’s like $60 or something? I remember I was close to purchasing it but it sounded like a scam lol. Or I couldn’t be thinking about something completely different. Have you used it? recommend?
I'm glad I found your channel, you are informative, honest and funny. You have a new subscriber! I love Camille Rose products but the Coconut Water Line! Once you try that line you probably won't use the regular line. The Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse is one of my staple shampoos, cleansing without stripping. The Coconut Water Deep Conditioner is a staple in my collection. My hair hated the Honey leave-ins. The Camille Rose Cocoa Nibs and Honey oil is great and is also a staple. I like the Almond Jai Twisting Butter. The Curl Maker is nice but you have to use sparingly because it can flake if you use too much.
Lol everyone keeps telling me I’m honest, I find it crazy the number of people out there lying to everyone. I’ve seen it too and i just don’t see the point. But anyway, I’m glad you found my channel too! I love that algae renew DC, would be amazing if the coconut water surpassed that! Definitely one of these days i will figure out a way to get around to trying it. I’ve heard of these cocoa nibs and hear that they’re always sold out. I have no idea what they are, I’ll have to look into that. The twisting butter was SO moisturizing but on reflection may have been a tad greasy as well. I didn’t get any flaking with the curl maker although i really though I would. It was so moisturizing!

I did (do? i'm not entirely sure haha) have a plan to attempt my first wash and go at my 9 month post chop mark.

I think it’s a great idea 👍🏾. And not one that’s often done on RUclips .
oh good, thank you! one thumbs up is all I need haha :)
Great review
Thanks! :) the whole line smelled incredible
I didn't know that you could return products to the store even if you have used them.
yep. That was news to me a while back as well. if you get it from a brick and mortar store, I believe you can return them. For anything bought online, I suspect that’s not possible (or worth while), but some states and areas do have product swaps where you can bring products you don’t want and you can barter for others. Sounds like a great idea
She actually does use ayurevedic ingredients in her hair serum.
Yep, and she has her around the world collection that focuses on Ayurvedic ingredients
TFS...do you have rubber bands or something at the roots of your hair? Just curious...I skimmed the vide...
It brought my whole twisting process down from ~3 hours to 1.5 (took an hour 22m last week 😉)
I put chapters in the description. I reference this in my final results

I don't think I've ever done a pre poo. I need to do better. lol Love that you're covering BOBs!
haha curly/kinky/coily hair is a lot of work!! me of like 2 years ago would never have done ANY of this stuff! but if you experience tangling at all when you wash your hair, i would in fact highly recommend a pre poo. if you don't do twistouts I wouldn't suggest you do the whole banding nonsense that I do, but everything else helps so much. thanks for watching! and i'm very excited for this new series :)
i just got the camille rose sweet ginger cleansing rinse.
@@UptightCurlsbyAmanda THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! This was very helpful and your response was super quick. Subbing rn :))
@@UptightCurlsbyAmanda one more question if you don't mind. What brand is the moisture love shampoo bar? is the brand name actually moisture love because i can't find it, but once again thank you so much for your help!
Hi! Yes that is the name. Here’s the link to their IG if you want to see their social media, and you’ll find the link to their website in their profile :)

Thank you for subscribing, and welcome!
@@alexissmithemailindescript5981 I know this is months after you asked but if you have high porosity hair, you don’t need to be concerned about coconut oil unless you’re allergic.
She does use ayurvedic ingredients
Taneisha Johnson oh! Ok thank you for this correction. In what collection for example? I will definitely correct this in my next video
@@UptightCurlsbyAmanda Most of the products in her collection that use Ayurvedic ingredients are online exclusives - she has a few hair/scalp growth oils and a deep conditioner collection that use them that I can remember off the top of my head. I think it's called the "Around the World" collection.
Brian Lee thanks Brian!! I will definitely clear this up in my next video. Couldn’t find anything generally on the site mentioning this so made a wrong assumption. May have to check some of those out
Uptight Curls by Amanda no worries! I ordered the deep conditioner that’s geared towards moisture last week. I’ll let you know what I think of it!
@@UptightCurlsbyAmanda She has a ayurvedic oil called Cocoa Nibs & Honey, Ayurvedic Brahmi and Amla Oils. She definitely use it in other products too.
Have you heard of Photogenic hair care.
