I once went camping in the New Forest with some mates. One of them brought some astronomically strong weed-cakes, one bite of one of which was enough to leave me totally immobilised in my tent for three hours. The big tin of toxic cakes sat in the tent nearly full - no one was able to stomach them. Then, at one point, through the haze of my coma, I saw a pony's snout snaffling through my half-open tent door. I was deeply confused at first. Then, to my abject horror, I understood why it had come - it immediately zoned in on the open tin of space cakes, and proceeded to inhale them in about 10 seconds. The feisty fella consumed about an ounce of decarboxylated weed in one go. I often think about that pony... and hope he had a good time.
1. There have been New Forest ponies in the New Forest, Hampshire, since the end of the last ice age. 2. Early records include the bones of a 13hh pony at the Rockbourne Roman Villa and the profits of the Royal Stud at Lyndhurst going to the building of Beaulieu Abbey. 3. In 1507, ponies from the New Forest were shipped to the French wars. 4. During the 19th century, colts were often raced and, with prizes of £5 to £10 on offer, became valuable assets. 5. New Forest ponies served in South Africa with the Forest Scouts in the Boer War, regularly carrying 13st all day and under extreme conditions.
New Forest… my cycling playground! 5 miles to start of Forest in Ashurst from Southampton… most of it on cycle path. Brockenhurst & Lyndhurst - the exact places to avoid when it’s sunny… millions of cars!
I was the random passer-by that blurted out, 'I watch you on RUclips...' at the traffic lights in Lyndhurst! Sorry I didn't say anything more deep and meaningful but it was a shock (in a good way!) to see you there. Looked like the Garmin team gave you a good cycle tour of the New Forest and hoped you enjoyed it :-)
4:23 is believe it or not one of the most dangerous junctions in Britain, Ipley crossroads, because of the way it was originally laid out. Now they are redesigning it evidently. There’s a good Tom Scott video about it
No cars...next cut a car goes out of shot 🤣🤦. The explanation of who owns the ponies in the forest was spot on. They belong to the commoners. That includes cows and pigs for example. Worst bit about the forest are the cattle grids. Great video as usual Francis. 👌
Next time you go to the New Forest take your gravel bike as there are far more interesting routes there than on road. Also, New Forest ponies have more traffic sense than the cows, which don't have any
I'm working in Newcastle this week until Sunday. Hope I spot you. ☺️ Great vid mate and congratulations again on a great sponsor and great friends. Looking forward to seeing this TOP SECRET bike! lol
Cows are great... excellent red light green light players... turn your back on them and you can hear them moving... turn around and they are all gazing of into space... but closer...
Any suggestions for attaching the Garmin Varia (I love this device) to or around a seat pouch? Putting the Varia lower on the seat post doesn't work. My wife and I ride Trek Domanes and I can't orient the light and radar correctly below a seat bag.
My manor! My neighbour is a Commoner so we always have plenty of ponies (they aren't horses if I'm being pedantic ;-) ) hanging around. Add in the cows and the pigs they let out in the autumn to eat the acorns, it's a fantastic place to be..
TRAGA mar Calella de Palafrugell. Costa Brava. Cocina marinera. Arroces frente al mar. Seafood & rice. Mediterranean cuisine by the sea. Go here for a lunch great ride to it aswell
The Garmin rideout is always a great ride. I love the new forest at this time of year as less tourist traffic. You should've head over to the purbecks, you would love it and the views over there. If you ever fancy a ride down here again I am more than happy to show you some good areas
Enjoying a holiday in cade country, been around Kielder, Colbridge, route 72, Newcastleton across the border over - and the roads are so, freaking quiet!!! Certainly could so with more cafes though got caught out on Monday - nothing for hours and hours. But I wanna know Francis, have you tried a Parmo yet?
Hey Francis - may I ask the make and model of your helmet please? PS you are the sole reason why I got into WIlier, I am now the proud owner of a Filante, which is pretty rare in Singapore for that I thank you!
As a Brit expat, i am shocked, and pleasantly surprised, that nobody has half inched those ponies and horses. I was still under the general UK impression, if its not nailed down, it'll be nicked...
Great upload today Francis, i have a couple of questions... Dose Harley have a Harley and is your road bike quicker than the BMX you did the Everest on? Oh just one more because i know you are a busy man and have limited time to respond to queries but hows the Hay Fever????????????? LOL..
Francis - Do you know Tristan of the tristantakevideo youtube channel? He is based in Girona, did media for the service course and recently became a cycling youtuber in a similar style to yours. He also seems to be a strong cyclist - level similar to yours.

Easily the best cycling youtuber . Always a joy to watch.

Watching the horse track the popsicle with his eyse is giving me life.

The Garmin folks seems very cool.
Really hope you make time to catch up with Keira in Girona.
Very nice part of world down there. Horses looking for nibbles or ice cream. 😁

Great place, I'm there in a week for five days of cycling can not wait.

Forest Fire roads are fun and extensive!
Rode a road race in the new forest once, & a herd of horses ran across the road in front of us! Close shave!
Stoked you are going to Spain
Nice ride Francis

Happy to see you finally got a proper computer. Hope it's serving you well 🤞
its cut down my export time by 90%

Hey Francis. Can you recommend any lights for road riding that will fit aero shaped bars?
is it my monitor or is the color on this one a lil magenta tinted?

Next time you ride throught the New Forest, bring some carrot 🥕 and you'll make new friends 🐴

I had a parmo in Australia!
@@Cade_Media what!!!
@@Cade_Media Of all places!
Going to Spain for a race in 3 weeks. Still not sure what covid tests I need to do?
Nothing if you are double vaccinated
You're going to Girona? So we're about to see another Francis x Keira vlogception episode? :P
Kinda depends on the person, like if they're super fit then yeah their arm is probably delicious and I'd be down with it
UNIK Clothing jumper Mr Cade at the end?
I live close to Girona and I m sure you will enjoy Girona and your ride, it is a wonderful place. many pro cyclists live there.
I switched to 4k thing tv, ur vlog image quality is insane
thanks Paul! Most of it isn't actually shot in 4k, but good to know!
Those horses just wanted to eat your ice cream that's while the were nudging you 🐴🐴 ; - 》
Hey Francis - may I ask the make and model of your helmet please? PS you are the sole reason why I got into WIlier, I am now the proud owner of a Filante, which is pretty rare in Singapore for that I thank you!
that is a MET Rivale MIPS!
Thanks so much for watching Alexanda and enjoy the filante!
👍👍👍
You have an affiliate link for Garmin?
As a Brit expat, i am shocked, and pleasantly surprised, that nobody has half inched those ponies and horses.
I was still under the general UK impression, if its not nailed down, it'll be nicked...
They don’t get nicked, more run down by stupid car drivers if anything.
will you still compete in cape epic 2021?
No South Africa is on our red list
Yikes Sad to hear that, but
Ride safe and more power to future contents
@@delacruzisaacowenj.9558 thanks mate!
Are you only using a gopro hero 10 to film rides now? I feel like the stabilisation has been much better last few videos when you’ve been out on rides
Really tempted to get one but not sure if the 10 is worth the extra money over the 9
yeah, I think the stabilization is pretty much the same as the 9, but the 10 is faster and easier to use (better touch screen!)
Everyone should know that saying “cut this out” or any related phrase guarantees it will make the final edit
Great upload today Francis, i have a couple of questions... Dose Harley have a Harley and is your road bike quicker than the BMX you did the Everest on? Oh just one more because i know you are a busy man and have limited time to respond to queries but hows the Hay Fever????????????? LOL..
slightly quicker ;)
@@Cade_Media Ha ha ha!!
Thanks Francis.....tell Lawrence to be careful in Richmond park ! Bike thieves are insane !! Peace

Hope Yoe meet in Girona Tristan
Tip: Everyone seems to wear masks outdoors in urban areas in Spain. This was my experience on a recent trip to Galicia. I assuming Girona is similar.
So weird imo.
@@justthatek7992 yeah exactly, so sad that people are so scared outside.
@@dmac2573 crazy mate, the place were you are probably the safest they mask up 🙄
#Focus! ;-)
How much did Jimmy pay to get Attacus at the top of your sponsor list 🤔🤣
It's kinda funny when you see a giant faceless multinational corporation actually has faces....
The guy from Garmin needs to sort out his sock game, way too short
no rules
@@Cade_Media just ride? Like what you did there 😃
Stupid sockrules lol
New Forest is best experienced... In the forest 😅 not on the road
No they are not going to be in masks. Only in shops and indoor areas. Enjoy
Note to self, stay clear of shifty cows.
Why ya all afraid of horses, they are lovely animals, they just wanted to be interacted with.
Hellooo
hello!
Garmin man wants to be eaten. Um...what?
New Forest ponies not horses!
nearly first
so close
I think they're called ponies
