Glad you enjoyed it :) I always hope that what I'm showing and saying is useful or interesting to someone so its really nice to hear that I'm on the right track. Thank you!
Random plan is ok in my book Much better than sitting at home thinking “if only I had …” Random would sum a lot of life up really. Whether people want that or not Take care
Yeah it was a lovely spot. I reckon the nearby trail would have got pretty busy as the morning wore on though. Lots of dog walkers and other cyclists around there.
This was really cool Jethro! Always love seeing the nano at work and the beautiful English countryside. I DID notice quite a lot of sticks laying around the ground just perfect for the nano.🤣👍🏼. It was probably pretty wet though. Take care sir. NQU
It was very wet. I would have had to work hard to keep a fire going that wasn't super smokey. Plus, it's a National Park and wild camping is not encouraged so I wanted to keep a low profile in a pretty well trafficked area. I'd really like to get out and do some more camp cooking videos but I'll wait for the better weather for that I think
I have a 90 mile 2 day “bottle of beer” ride planned loop for the new forest this spring. Looking forward to getting out there. Thanks for the appetiser!🙃
Great to meet you today mate! Awesome video and I’m glad I’ve found another Bikepacker to watch! Good luck on the rest of your trip, and careful of that wind! 🚴
Great to meet you too! I made it up the beacon and down to my destination. I'll get the videos edited and uploaded soon. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your run!
Thank you, I'm really glad you are both enjoying the channel. I've got another shortish trip coming up in a couple of weeks so there will be a few videos out of that. Also some vague plans for a bigger trip later in the year but that's all rather hazy still. I'll be putting out videos of some sort though that I can say for sure 😉 Thanks for watching!
Check the description for the link to the route on Strava. That will give you the location to within a handful of meters. It was a good spot and felt as though it was pretty weather proof. Nice free draining ground, not too much undergrowth, plenty of flat pitches and a curtain of evergreen saplings as shelter from the trail.
Beautiful video. As a Bournemouth (Branksome) local I would love to know your route! I grew up in Burton, a village outside of Christchurch and spent my childhood either down the beach or riding into the forest. These days I have one route I do and am very uninspired even though the route is spectacular (through the chines, along the beach and then either back the way I came or through Boscombe, Bournemouth and Westbourne) Gearing up my tent for next weekend
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It was a great ride! There is a link in the description to my route on Strava so you can see every little twist and turn there. It was mostly made up as I went but it turned out really nice. It's a great little corner of the world for cycling!
The hiccups just add to the adventure 🙂 I got super lucky on this one with the route, the weather and the camp spots. Think I'll be back to the area again for sure in the future
Love your channel and your adventures. I finally bought a new Ogre last year. It came last week and I love it! Thanks for the info and entertainment. ❤
Great trip, impromptu can sometimes turn out to be the best, New forest looks great to cycle although think I will have to pick the trails carefully, I'm a Brompton man 😂, Thanks for sharing very inspirational. love the easy enjoy the journey style, Happy pedaling 👍
Some of it might prove pretty rattly on a Brompton but you could definitely craft a route round there. Some of the little tarmac roads are lovely and pretty quiet.
What an excellent little campsite, makes up for the previous fruitless search. That would make an excellent place to film some bushcraft type posts!? What a brilliant ride into the urban centre. Some really pleasant scenery, and I loved the singltrack panniers comment!🤣 Nice to see that your regional railways have really prioritized and encouraged cyclists to utilize their well thought out services..so disappointing! But hey, don't want to end on a negative comment, albeit a more sarcastic one. Really enjoyed that semi-unplanned adventure. And the New Forest looks a beautiful place to explore. Nicely done Jethro! Take care buddy😊
Don't even get me started on the biies-on-trains issue. It is a constant source of annoyance and confusion for me and feels like a real missed opportunity by the railways. Not enough money in it I guess . Glad you enjoyed the ride though. It was a lot of fun and I'm already looking forward to the next one!
That's my kind of place with nice trails where you can enjoy the ride without a shit load of traffic. I've been prepping my Troll for a trip but, parts are lost in the mail. :(
I haven't done many kit reviews recently. I haven't got any new kit I thought I could spin a whole video out of. I've always totes with the idea of getting into doing shorts. Little 60 second reviews of stuff I rate. It was actually the Bolle that first triggered this idea but i just never quite got round to it.
@@purelyacademic mine is the Bolle Eco. I really like it. Comfy for long days, fits well, not too heavy. And it only looks vaguely daft which is a lot better than most helmets 😉 I'd definitely recommend and would buy another myself if I was in need of a new one
Five minutes in and I've never laughed so heartily. What a puss on yon sleekit timorous beastie! Great looking ride. Hope things are working out with YT. Sorry for lack of comments, been awa' wi' the faeries ma'sen.
Thanks, glad you are enjoying. I use a Trangia alcohol stove which i set in the FirboxNano as a pot stand. I cook in a 750ml pan, i think its MSR maybe? Other than that i have small Ti mug and a wooden spoon that i whittled to fit in the pot along with the stove. All pretty basic really. I have a 5" Firebox at home with a little grill plate and billy can oven but I don't take it on multi day trips because it's just too bulky. Great for getting a bit more gourmet with though
I use tubeless. Have done since I got the Ogre back at the end of 2019. In that time I've had 2 punctures that needed plugging and one that requires sewing (and a new tyre). That's a massive improvement over what I'd usually have and I'm very happy with the whole tubeless thing. I carry a tube for emergencies but so far the situation has not arisen
No head torch? You plan for redundancy though? You at least have bike lights you could use? I of course have a second head torch, sorry to be a pain ha ha! I bought the little Petzl thing, years ago now, hardly used it. Bindi is it called? It’s very good anyway. Thanks for another enjoyable vid Jethro, I’m actually digging my gear out and checking stuff over, summer is on its way, a little Dafodil told me. Take care and thanks again.
I did have my bike light and the light on my phone so it was all good. I guess if I was going off into the wilderness I might plan for redundancy a bit more but on a ride like this it's hardly worth the bother. Nothing can really go wrong that I can't just grin and bear for a day or two. I missed the camp shoes more than the head torch to be honest. Still too wet underfoot to go barefoot and my riding shoes never dried out from day 1
"What's the point of going for a bike ride if you don't record it?" Spoken like a true RUclipsr. 😂 Another great video. I must overdub my talky bits more, I'm all puffy n weezy on my vids but i did hit 500 subs last week so somethings right .. take care.
Its always a mistake to do pieces to camera on a big climb 😉 I've been there. Puffing and blowing and repeating myself breathlessly! Best to do the voiceover back in the studio once the stunt rider has finished the actions sequences and the CGI guys have added my face. I don't even get out of bed anymore, it's all deepfaked 😉

What a superb little clearing in the forest you found on the last night. I bet you were happy and relieved to find it.
That was a real find indeed. To get somewhere so dry and level was unexpected and very welcome. I'd aim for that spot again if I was in the area
Great video, thanks for sharing it with us.
