I've said it before and I'll say it again....the man's an alien. For me, pound for pound the best drummer I've ever heard. He mixes creativity, speed, precision and extreme limb independence at the highest level and still manages to make it all groove like hell.
the thing i love about jojo is that his solo's always start off suttle and well thought through and always ends up with a big climax and not just bashing the shit out the drums and doin the fastest beats, he's just amazing how controlled he is even when going at 100 mph, great drummer!
actually, i remember seeing jojo at the canal room about two years and i told him how much buddy rich's influence shows through in his playing. the guy told me he's inspired by everyone, not just one person. i think that's the best approach when playing an instrument or taking up any craft: be open to learning from everyone and anyone.
I´m sure jojo is inspired by them, but he gives this particular playing styles a very avantgardistic touch and creates something new and simply amazing... i´m stunned by this video...
the allenboy, you're wrong, nobody has ever had this kind of musical groove before. It's not the speed or technique that makes him great, it's the feeling that he puts into every hit.
keep in mind that jojo mayer plays a small set and single pedal that akira jimbo plays double bass and plays a massive set....sooooooo i think mayer takes the cake for better player
IIIIIIIII know! Why do people rave over drummers like Neil Peart when theres Jojo Mayer, who is obviously, technically the best drummer aound these days!
@emmett12345678 It's sort of like a choke where you grab the edge of the cymbal right after you choke it. but instead of choking it all at once, it's a control tremelo effect. (that's actually a very bad example) regardless, it's jojo, and i can only attempt to unerstand what is going through that man's head when he's playing.
I agree with theallenboy. People like Jojo Mayer, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Dave Weckl have great chops, but all their stuff is the same. If you want musical groove and feeling, look at greats like Tony Williams, Max Roach, or Steve Gadd.

Jojo really does have a style and personality of play that no other drummer has. Really respect the effort he's put in to nailing those beats.

jojo's hands are the best in the world. top notch execution
Love the sound of his Sabian signature "Fierce Crash" on his right.

his entire kit sounds like those 60's kits loops that you hear so often..sound wise, they're a perfect replica !
no one is ever blessed, they only gain their talent through hard work and practice
hes always in great shape!!!!;)

gerdrummer, the song is called sedation depravation.
so musical, it's crazy
any vids of him playing with a band?
What’s the set up of his cymbals
IIIIIIIII know! Why do people rave over drummers like Neil Peart when theres Jojo Mayer, who is obviously, technically the best drummer aound these days!
nah, dont think so, he already has signature cymbals with sabian, fierce hats, crash and ride. why do you say that though?

@Percussionfish I've seen a picture of him with Chapin...

We strive so hard to sound like machines!
actually, the tom is 16" and the side tom to the left is a 10". He usully uses a 14" floor tom. The Rack tom is 8x10" tom.
5:40 - 5:50, that is pretty insane!!!
Unlucky mate, I saw him in Manchester. Blew me away.
