this is one of my favorite songs~ it took me a while to realize how horribly true the message is, about how we live for god for all of a day and then walk away again, then it comes like a punch in the face that we realize we did something stupid. i admire this band so much, a lot of christian bands are all praise but this is human relatable...
Oh you're definitely not the only one. There is a reason they're my favorite band of all time. I've been so inspired by their music. In so many different aspects of my life...
I LOVE this song! Took about 3-4 times listening to it to finally appreciate it. Somewhere I reaid that the band said this song was about splitting with their old label and not having a record label anymore...I am not really seeing that correlation but the song does have a lot of christian based ideas and themes like a lot of their songs do. They never cease to amaze with how deep their songs can be especially when compared to how hollow and pointless so much mainstream, popular, music can be.
The dead rose is a symbol of the things of this world that he loved, but he fell out of love with them as he realized there was no life in them - only death. He planted seeds everywhere he went, looking for meaning in this life, but nothing took root, as everything seemed as only shallow rose stems in water. Then at the end he finds the Dead Rose, who rose from the dead after dying on a cross for us all, and he will love him forever more.
I think this song could also relate to maybe a relationship. That's how I took it anyway. Like, it blossoming into something beautiful, then wilting and dying, recovering from it, and then remaining friends afterwards or even getting back together with them. GOSH. You can take this song so many different ways, eh?
For me this song is a parallel. The first verse is about a relationship that faltered. The second verse is about a loved one that passed away (possibly a spouse ie. "How could I find something equally divine"). To confirm that "How fleeting is love (the relationship), how fleeting is life (the loved one). Then, the bridge is split into 2 parts. The first part is about the relationship and he realizes that it didn't TRULY matter in the larger scheme. The second part is when he goes to Heaven and realizes that his loved one is also in Heaven. The main idea of the song is to put your time into that which is eternal instead of settling for temporary satisfaction. Just my thoughts :)
I also thought this album had allot of Christian ideas and/or undertones. Glad to see I'm not the only one I thought I might have just been seeing things that weren't there.
The song does have a very christian feel but I also feel like the dead rose is their Band. When they first started out they were new and vibrant and it looked like they were going places. But then it started to go down from there and they lost popularity and fame and their record label. At first the band grew naturally but then the natural decline of the band started to happen. It was a stem in water meaning it didn't have a strong foundation not as strong as roots planted in dirt with a strong foundation that can't be moved. 2nd verse he says of the love WE had for you meaning the love the band mates had for the band. and so on and so on. Idk this has always been an idea I had of this song.
I just discovered this band. Why is it so damn underated?
Welcome
Probably because they're not on a label.

Yet again the Classic Crime comes out with a song that speaks right to me.

They sure do deny any Christian beliefs in public. Kind of hypocritical imo.
