  • Some of my subscribers have asked me to talk about my own history, and about creativity, and how they can use their creativity more successfully. I hope this video is of interest to my subscribers and helps viewers to get over whatever humps are holding back their self expression.
This was made by a documentary filmmaker who made this for PBS it was called The Creative Person and it explored creativity.
This video shows me and some of my collections. I use my collections to help me create ideas. And I do, I admit, love collecting. I think that there are two kinds of people in the world. Those who love collecting those who hate it. My wife can't stand the clutter. I love the clutter, obviously shown in this video.
Thinking creatively involves stepping outside your conventional thought patterns and exploring new ideas and possibilities.
    Some Techniques for Enhancing Creativity
Freewriting: Set a timer for 10-15 minutes and write continuously about a topic without worrying about grammar or coherence.
Mind Mapping: Start with a central idea and draw branches to related concepts, allowing for free association and visual connections.
Role-Playing: Imagine yourself in different roles or viewpoints. How would someone else approach the problem, issue, opportunity?
Reverse Thinking: Instead of thinking about how to solve a problem, consider how you could cause the problem.
Change Your Environment: Work in different locations or rearrange your workspace to stimulate new thoughts.
Incorporate Routine Breaks: Regular breaks and walks will refresh your mind and lead to creative insights.
Random Word Association: Pick random words from a dictionary and try to connect them to your problem or project.
Brainstorm with Others: Collaborating with people from different backgrounds introduces diverse perspectives and ideas.
Currently I have had a stroke, and I continue to solicit support for my creations on RUclips. Please support me at: patreon.com/allinaday and ko-fi.com/alli...

Touchstones and talismans…i share your spirit of collecting…i have a room, now impossible to enter, called “the swamp”, which has followed me from city to city, full of the ephemera of my life, which for several decades now i have not had the room to put out on shelves and walls and tables…🇨🇦

The awards you have received are mind blowing but then when you talk to us or show us a video, we know just why you received them. You've been curious, a collector and an inspiration to thousands. Like you, I love old photos and postcards-- they speak volumes if only you observe. The Tuck postcards are the top to me. You appreciate things of the past-- material and nonmaterial and for that I applaud you. Sentiment is real and wonderful. I am as well as things that belonged to my family members are very special to me. Your dad would be so proud.❤

It's 6:30pm (evening here)👍 our temps have finally been coming up over in the east,🌡😁 though it's been a light rain here also all day in the Ohio River Valley, was almost 🌡60° today, and most of our last storm's snow leftover on the ground has pretty much melted away, it's almost all gone, (at least it's to the edges of my driveway!) Thankfully!!😁❄👍 And all that's left of the grandkids' snowman is just a lil nub⛄out in my front yard!😂❄⛄ It's only the size of a basketball now! Lol😂⛄❄🏀😂😂☮✌

Really enjoyed the documentary on you David. Your awards and documentaries will be your great legacy. It was a shame about the fire, but it seems like you lost those things, but you gain the time with your sons when you started working from home after that I guess it’s all a trade-off. I have a neighbor who’s a collector like you and I told her she’d have to live three lifetimes in order to get done what she wanted to do.😅

I read through your description of this video and the tips you give on how to get started thinking creatively about a topic or just to write. I had teachers in school that used all of your suggestions. I missed those days of learning. We had such fun coming up with different ways of thinking creatively.
Of course, over the years, I've forgotten some of those techniques, until I read your description.
After a childhood of abuse of blunt force trauma to my head, I've been in physical therapy for speech to relearn how to communicate both written and orally.
I'm thrilled you posted these techniques, which I could certainly use now.
Your life is fascinating. I love seeing your process of documenting, writing and reporting.
I love hearing your stories about your collections and your life. I feel like you are talking to me, not like its a video, but like I'm there with you. Thank you.
*You did say something very interesting in this video that applies today,
"If you think about your own life, and the tragedies, and turn them into positive things there are very great moments for creative results"
They are YOUR words of wisdom to live by.

I had a scrapbook of postcards, too. I was a poor kid. I'd say, it was a favorite toy. We could not have a puppy or even a stuffed one,, so I saved pics of puppies. My mantra is: that was then, this is now. In life, ive made millions and lost it all. That was then, and this is now. I finally know exactly where is my alcoholic, cheating, gambling husband. He's under the brass plate proved by the Marine Corps. This is now. And I'm happy. There are no pictures of me. I wonder what that means.

Reminds me of myself and the things I keep and why I keep them, even when most people just say “throw it out!” “You don’t need it!” I love the feelings my “things” invoke as well as the memories they give. I could spend days in your special room, just appreciating each and every single thing. How cool! I love this! It’s even better than I imagined it was, when you have talked about your collection. 😊

I'm not one to watch videos over 10 to 15 min long. It's probably an attention span thing. Since your stroke, I've tried to watch more, and then this popped up this afternoon. This was the time to get to know you better. And, what better video to watch than a documentary by a film documentorist (if that's a word. Lol).
It's seems, no matter what the cause of loss of a lifetime of saving, collecting, and remembering, the loss is painful. Like you, I find joy in what I have left, but the importance of things is far less to me than it was. After all, we can't take it with us. Yes, leaving it for our loved ones can be important to me, but for me, it wasn't all the loss of physical things, I also lost a family. No one to leave anything to. Since I discovered I was an artist, I've many things I'll leave behind, both with those who've purchased my art or those things that I've given to others. I guess I can say that now and then I still pick up things that intrigue me, but only for my time on earth. It's refreshing to know that you've shared this video. It makes me feel a brotherhood with you, even though we may never meet. But, I do know I'm not the only one to feel the way I do. In so many ways, we are NOT alone. 😊
My wishes and hopes are still in effect for your improving health.

one thing that ive come to admire about you is your absolute stubborn practical optimism. i mean, yeah what could a family man of 2 sons have done in such a moment? sit on the pavement and cry and end your life because "my lifes work is gone up in flames"? true, no use in that. but still, even now with your health sh*tuation....i think youre a big fool, david. and this i mean in the most positive way, its really kinda admirable. it IS a better way to live ones life surely to just go with the blows and say "OK, whats next from here" not pondering long on any consequences.
