I used to work for a publisher. They had a warehouse and if books were damaged, they put them aside. Employees could attend a sale twice a year. The books were $1 for hardcover and $0.50 for paperback. These were new books with minimal damage. I miss going to this sale.
Oh what fun..I like to have fell out of my chair when I saw the prices at the estate sale...we dont have a have a habitat store here, wouldn't do me any good tho...just not able to go (I don't mind being confined,to take care of my sister...just didn't want her in nursing home ..no regrets)...thanks for getting me out for little while...🥰🥰
hey Miss Moose....nice 1939 World's Fair book... If you ever see a small RCA radio with a picture of the Trylon and Perisphere, on the front, grab it!!!.....They go for big bucks.. That 1939 worlds fair radio is on my "wish I had" list, haha. 😂😂
Just looked up the radio… It’s quite a stunner! I can see why it’s on your wish list! Fortunately, that is something that if I saw it, I would remember to scoop it up. Now to find one!
Hi Renee 😊 I enjoy the fact that even if it is only a $40 profit you were to make it makes you happy. I am pretty certain you will find lots more treasures through the year no matter where, have fun doing what you do and thanjs for sharing 😊
Trouble is...I have a bag...but very scarce places to fill it! The thrifting scene is shriveling up here! You are so lucky to have those places still active!
Not much in the 1st stop - all new! Those Henry razors are always in my emails. The 3rd? Bang zoom! Sky high prices. The books were the winner; A neat ‘Smile’ book. Well scanned. Old book from the old home town - it’s a keeper! And the Worlds Fair. Very cool. Not bad Renee, all told….
I like the Mr. Peanut figurine. Here in San Francisco, there was the Planter's Peanut Building...which featured 2 ft. cast iron Mr. Peanut statues capping pilasters surrounding the building's structure. The vintage oak chest was a great piece, especially those top jewelry drawers. It was a gentleman's chest...an he would keep his cufflinks, shirt studs and tie pins ready for work or a night on the town! Glad you got that nice NYWF book, I have a couple, as well an original info/guide book.
Great compilation of different sales. My personal favorites always have been estate sales, but they are really hard to find over here. 7:17 Nice assortment of Steins with interesting quotes ("Eher soll die Welt vergehen, als ein Deutscher..."). Prices for these items are a little bit steep though. Anyways, a very pleasant and informative trip through different sales with some pretty neat finds. Congrats on the books, my favorite was the "New York World´s Fair 1939/40" item, this would definitely be a keeper for me. Have a very good time, and see you on the next one ! 🖐 Greets from GER, U.
Perhaps it was one of those sales where they don’t want to “really” sell certain items, so they price it high & if someone purchases at the high price, then it’s okay to part with. Other viewers in Europe have stated the same thing about estate sales. Some state that the families just take care of the estate themselves & would never allow strangers to meander through a home & look in cabinets & closets. Guess it’s an “American” thing! A little hectic over the last few days, so still gathering my questions on the “Letters from Berlin” to email you. Any exciting plans for the weekend?
@@PaperandMoose Agreed, estate and garage sales are comparitively rare over here, because most folks don´t like that foreigners "touch their privacy". This weekend will be filled with "exciting" garden work ! 🌱As a horticulture guy, my yard is a little bit different (e.g. no lawn). Quote Carlyle: "Labor is Life !" 😄
Loved this video..when you strolled by one of those first tables there were some old bottles of cologne that my dad used to use. They look like little barrels with a wooden top. Gosh did that bring me back to my childhood. I find that rummage sales usually have the best prices. Great hunt Renee and you would have had to drag me out of the book section. I am always reading with another one waiting in the wings. Take care and happy springtime.
Hello Renee jim from Northern Ireland came across your channel a short time ago and I'm really enjoying the content. In your earlier videos loved the Audrey Hepburn hair style I hope your channel goes from strength to strength best wishes😊
Renee, enjoy your vids. I have a small tip for you and your viewers. I think I've seen a couple of your videos where you pass up paper napkins. The price of paper products has risen. My wife and I grab paper napkins and plates at the bins, garage sales and estate sales if they are cheap enough for personal use. We don't care if they are Christmas, Halloween , Thanksgiving or Birthday. We have Christmas in our holder right now Lol ! Of course they have to be unopened packages. But usually you can get them for 10 - 50 cents a pack.
Ooohh I am stocked up on napkins, paper towels, & tissues for the next year 🙂 I bought a bunch of napkins from the Tote Man last summer & I’m still going through my surplus of paper supplies purchased for an 80s party. At a recent pick, I brought home 2 boxes of both tissues & paper towels. I agree though on buying home essentials at sales like this as it can save a lot of money!
I love watching your videos! I watch like a backseat driver…”bolts of trim in the garage!, vellum envelopes!!!, omg did you see the Putz houses? those flower books are stunning!” 😅😂😂The vellum envelopes and flower books would sell for a mint on Etsy for junk journal ladies.
Hi Renee. The brown book is amazing, with history of your area. Why would you sell such a book. The coolest thing to do when you go out is, go to habitat for humanity and find more books. I could a heard people talking about high prices on some item there. God Bless you Renee and have a great week. HUGS 🤗. Mari'a. 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗👍👍👋👋👋👍👍👍🌼🌺🌸
I’ll have to pick an afternoon to go “book shopping” at Habitat. Cheaper than the book store & my library might not have what I’m looking for, but perhaps Habitat will! I hope that your week has gone well so far, Maria!

Now that is a great idea! I wonder if our landfills here would be able to offer and put together some type of little retail section. I know when I’ve been to the landfill & look in the bins, there are times when I wish I could climb into the bin & take some stuff out!
@@PaperandMoose Local authorities are under pressure from the Government to deal with waste as effectively as possible as there is virtually no land available for landfill sites anymore, we are a tiny nation and real estate is at a premium. Beautiful dresser at Habitat. The prices at the estate sale - ridiculous from what I saw. All that work for little actual return. Having done our own family member's estates going back 30 years - we wanted to MOVE stuff and shoppers knew it! And, we did!
I went to a book sale yesterday. Adult Hardcover $1, kids hardcover and adult softcover 50¢, and kids softcover 25¢. I got a total of 11 books for $8.50. One being Code Girls story of women code breakers during world war 2 hardcover. I got it for my sister since I won't see her for a couple of months I'm going to read it first.

The World's Fair - which in 1876 introduced kudzu - "the vine that ate the South." Right by you in Philly! Some other invasive species, too, I think. But a lot of great things also - I looked some up - didn't know so many, now commonplace, things were first introduced at a WF. If you haven't read, "Devil in the White City," it's about (and set against the backdrop of) the 1893 World's Fair / Columbian Exposition. One of the (true) plot lines is about a serial killer - just a forewarning if you don't like that kind of thing. Bill Bryson's "At Home" has a long section on the Crystal Palace at the "Great Exhibition" in London in the 1850s - not.a World's Fair, I don't think, but interesting - and it's a really good book anyway. I love the Habitat Stores here - among other things they are great for secondhand tools. Nice find on the County History. We have estate sale companies here who run Saturday & Sunday sales - you have to wait for the half-off Sunday to get anything at a decent price. But I guess there are folks who have to have certain things and will pay a premium." Hope you have a great Wednesday afternoon - rain here today & tomorrow. Saturday I have to go pick up a few things I won at and online estate auction - looking forward to that. And to your next video, of course!
I think I can recall the cover of the Devil in the White City book - add that to my list! I just picked up “Nuclear War” by Annie Jacobsen. Some people have told me that I should prepare myself before reading it… so does that mean it’s not a “read before bed” type book? We’ll find out! The tool/home renovation section at this store is filled but my skills in that area aren’t that great, so I stick with the other side of the store 🙂 We had nice weather here today & next week they are calling for mid to upper 70s all week! That means possibly going to my other favorite flea market & seeing if any yard sales pop up. Hope that your online auction wins turn out to be good!
@@PaperandMoose I’ve never read “Nuclear War” but I remember “The Day After” TV movie in 1983, I think making for a lot of unpleasant discussion at school.
That estate sale was crazy, don’t think they are going to sell much with prices the same as an antique shop. Looks like they checked prices on eBay and price accordingly.
I think using the word “estate” draws in a larger group of interested people. But as you said, using that word doesn’t guarantee people will feel inclined to pay higher prices.
Please slow down when you are looking over the shelves and looking at items you are focusing on. I gave you a thumbs up but you are just moving too fast to see what you are viewing. I hope this doesn't continue because I will be disappointed to the point of not watching you except for when you an Tony are hunting.

Estate sale involves to much sentimental feelings.
Are you and toco stakes married? If not who are you married to and do you have kids
That estate sale was crazy, don’t think they are going to sell much with prices the same as an antique shop. Looks like they checked prices on eBay and price accordingly.

Why do people think if they put the words Estate sale on their sight their stuff is worth more then yard sales.
I think using the word “estate” draws in a larger group of interested people. But as you said, using that word doesn’t guarantee people will feel inclined to pay higher prices.
I like books too!👍👍❤️
Please slow down when you are looking over the shelves and looking at items you are focusing on. I gave you a thumbs up but you are just moving too fast to see what you are viewing. I hope this doesn't continue because I will be disappointed to the point of not watching you except for when you an Tony are hunting.
