Why we stopped sailing | A trip down memory lane

- Not surprisingly, a common question we get is "Why did you guys stop sailing?" After all, we had a successful sailing channel and a nicely refitted little boat, so we completely understand when people think we may be a little crazy.
Well, in this episode, we try to provide a few insights into our decision to go ashore and at the same time, re-live a few memories. We talk past, present and have a glimpse at the future.
Once more, we want to thank all of the people who have been along on this journey for the long haul, as well as those just joining us and sending us their thoughts, best wishes and providing a means for us to continue documenting our life lessons.
With respect,
Troy, Pascale and Constance.

If you'll build a boat, I'll be happy to watch you do it.

Hi Troy & Pascale, I believe the reason everyone love your videos is that you both put your heart and sole into whatever you do whether it be sailing, gardening or farming and last but by no means least, being parents. I would love to follow your boat build Troy, I watch people building their own houses etc. with envy. Maybe if I was 40 years younger, I would have loved to give it a go. Now I am content with watching others do the hard work while I have a cup of tea and a sandwich. With my best wishes to you both & baby. From the UK.
Cup of tea and a sandwich is very underrated.
*soul, ‘sole’ is the bottom of your foot.😂
The sailing attracted me. Becoming attached to you, as individual people, keeps me coming back. You're interesting, and I like your style. Count me in. 👌
I would like to see the boat build when it happens. As an amateur woodworker I can always learn from watching others and seeing how they tackle certain aspects. I think I have been following you two for over 5 years. Always enjoyable and interesting.
I don't watch FRL like I should but I'll be honest I miss the sailing. Happy for you both & you landlubbers do a great job with the farming. Happiness can take many forms. Cheers
Well, we hope a bit of small boat adventuring will fit the bill later on. Thanks for checking in.
Build the boat, you'll enjoy it. You'll have fun with it afterwards. And so will everybody else out here that watches you? Test the personal opinion from a sailor that has his own little boat. And I've done what you're doing. Keep up the good work.
Hi guys, thanks for the update on your ongoing Adventure. I knew when you got that place in Tasmania that the sailing days were numbered. You've done one hell of a job of the transition. The idea of building a boat at this time on RUclips is pretty good. Some of the main channels building boats have completed now. Salt and tar, Acorn to Arabella, and the huge tally ho project have all pretty much completed now. So there is a vacuum you can step into, Troy.
Thanks for the tips!
Of course we want to watch the build process! I really love the new look and feel of the channel, and since I've become quite fond of the two of you, I'm happy to follow along with any adventure you choose to share with us.
Love to see boat builds guys! go for it.
Watching RAN Sailing and their build at the moment, so interesting.
Thanks.
Preferred the boat content but continue to subscribe and flip through the odd video to see what’s going on. Will continue to follow.
Being a grandparent is a whole other level of joy. You get to relive having little ones around you again. You get to watch all over again a child growing up.
Documenting a boat build would be very interesting. I was wondering if you missed being on the boat. I do agree that having family around is so worth it for you and your child and possible future children.
I wish you and yours good health and a pleasant Summer.
Free range sailing was my first patreon. I love you guys. And, while I miss the sailing, it is wonderful to see you so fulfilled and happy. Much of how I sail is patterned on you guys. I even mill grains aboard. You two have been an inspiration. Also, please build a boat. That would be so fun. Do a little camp cruising Roger Barnes style.
LOVE you Two....WELL 3😍😍😍😍😍😍 YOU were the FIRST sailing channel That I started watching....LOVE the sailing and ALL that you have done....BUT Its ALL about you and the care you take in all you Do!!!! YOU are AWESOME land OR Sea
Hello. Definitely film the boat build, Troy. It's been 5 years..Wow. I did not think I would like Free Range Living, but was so wrong. Your focus on self-support, overcoming challenges, and community is the thread I appreciate about this channel. Be well all.
Yes! Definitely film the boat build, Troy!
The trailer sailor is a fantastic idea...
It opens up places you could never go with a keel boat.
And yeah document the build! Because i know you will do a good job if it.
Your channel is represents life, always evolving.
I have followed you from the very beginning. Your channel, along with Matt and Amy on sailing Florence are streets ahead of the rest. A main reason is that you are genuinely lovely people displaying skills which most envy and learn from without you showing any ego or intentionally unfavourable comments. The result is that you are absolute pleasures to watch and follow. Continue to go well. I’ll be tagging along very happily.
Thank you Chris. That is quite the compliment.
Building a new boat would be fun to watch. Sharing your adventures on that boat would be great. We always enjoy watching what you guys are up to. You're a terrific family!
You had the best sailing channel out there. I will wait for your possible return to sea and adventure. Hope you family stays blessed.
Troy, I would love to watch you build a boat!
I focus my limited time on watching sailing, and doing some sailing of my own and supporting family, so I haven't been watching the homesteading. Great to see you so well and with an addition to the family.
Start now Troy, love to watch it, watching RAN sailing build their boat now and I love it, cheers guys keep going 👍
I spent countless hours watching your videos. Came to love your channel. Wishing you two the best that life has to offer. You two are so well suited to one another. Always enjoyed the love and respect you had for one another even more than the adventures. You have everything you need. God bless.
Totally video the build. Arabella is floating so she is almost done. Tally Ho has a way to go but Leo is a man with a plan. We need a new build!
You have my 100% support as a long time viewer to build a boat!
What a great recap and update. Just absolutely lovely 😍 We enjoy every aspect of what you share, keep it up 🙏
Hi pascale and troy , I have been watching you 2 from the start. You are both amazing resourceful people with positive energy. It's been really uplifting to watch your content. Regards long term viewer.
Very much looking forward to seeing progress on your new build.
Please do videos of the small boat build. We would love to see that in addition to the farming videos. And especially looking forward to seeing small boat adventuring.
Would love to see some sailing and seafood gathering adventures around the South West. So many amazing areas and almost always a place to launch because of the unique geology.
After watching all your videos for years
Building a sail boat will keep me watching
Guaranteed
We even have Free range shirts
Stay safe 😊
"If you build it they will view" or something like that. DO IT!!!
Document your boat build? YES PLEASE !
When my keeler sold, after a while I missed the connection with sea, so settled on 5m trailer sailer … refreshingly simpler and fun for all ages! John Welsford designs well known, go for it!
Surf or turf, It's all good....
Have a great day, keep up the great work !!!!!!
I do watch and am still subscribed to your FRL channel and I have been watching your channel for just over 5 or 6 years. I don't comment often and from memory only donated once, but I had a post office in central highlands Tazzy and I am sure that is when I started watching. I watch RAN sailing and have done for years as well, Johan is building a 50Footer on a farm as well, so I would faithfully watch you build your John Wellsford Pathfinder.
This walk in history brought up memories if Lyle Lovett's, song "If I had a boat" lyrics. The boat and the pony. For me the pony is where you are now...Great song. Great lyrics.
We particularly enjoyed this last video and the dinghy build to a Welsford design sounds a great project...thanks for your fantastic channel Mike & Jan UK
Pascal. something about that smile of yours. Rapidly scanning through the thumbnails, I locked on yours. Jeeez, the baby! GOD bless you three ! ! ! ! ! !
Good idea to make this. The SW of WA is amazing for gunkhole cruising the inlets.
Cruising ground suggestions will be very welcome!
@@FreeRangeLiving my favorite is Broke Inlet, amazing Jarrah & Karri, ancient grasstrees, very shallow so not much boating goes on there. Wild surf near the entrance.
Building a small boat, and future adventures would be great viewing.
I'll wach anything boat related. Definitely a boat build. But... The reality is that you guys are so adorable that I'll wach you do anything.
You both look happy and healthy. That is what matters!
Definitely film the boat build. Your building/design principles resonate with me and probably many others.
Love it, mate. You two are incredibly inspiring ❤️
Long time follower. Your Range Sailing Shirt is still one of my faves. Would definitely follow along on the boat build!!! Congratulations on the new addition! I’ll have to watch more!
big yes to the boat build! :D
A boat build project to supplement what you now offer would be fun. A good opportunity to learn something more.
I think most people watch to keep up with the two of you, no matter what it is you're up to...
Sería muy interesante ver y disfrutar el proceso de construcción de vuestro barco. Adelante con el proyecto!
Love all your content ❤
Oh, ABSOLUTELY document your boat build. I really need something else to make me feel inadequate 🤣
we love you! you are amazing xx
Would love to watch the boat build
Nice to see you still tagging along!
Thank you for sharing so much, now & then.
So much appreciated - we'll follow you on all your free range adventures ...
Troy and Pascale, I'm up for anything you choose to do your good people there !! Much success in the future
Outstanding! Your whole approach to life is so inspirational. To hear how you two have your future adventures planned out and the factors that impact those plans is truly impressive. Well done!
I would love to see a boat build from scratch, and with all the experience from Mirrool you should be able to include improvements in design and construction.
have a great day, Nice little crew expansion.
I learn so much from you 2 love John
thank you both for everything you have done, your sailing videos are basically a step by step guide for my own adventures to start in a few years.
Truly great news! We love your sense of adventure no matter where it is. We'd love to follow the build as well as any sailing and fishing and laughing.
Always enjoy Troy's construction instruction! Recently had my FRS t-shirt on so thought longingly about the shearwaters surfing, my favorite video.
Good to see you, on my rare visit to YT,
Great chat, good on you for chasing your goals, that alone is inspiring. Seeing the success you are having is gravy. Ill enjoy watching a boat build also.
I clicked on you people way back at the start and I'm enjoying your on land experience just as much as the sailing still wearing my Free Range sailing hat's and shirt's cheers and thanks heaps
another boat!! thats good news! Welcome back!
Yes, for seeing the boatbuild!
Happy to watch you go about building a boat. I have your refit videos saved as I keep coming back as I progress thru my current refit.
Love to watch the boat build Troy👍
have watched every one of your sailing videos and all of your farming vids, always anticipating the next. they are great.
Always wondered what happened… always liked watching you two along with Meg & Daren…
love your work since the beginning, nice one...
Just another adventure in the offering ... such a wonderful view you give to a multiple of people ... all the best in the future.
Love all you’ve shared with Sailing and Living. The boat renovation and the work you’ve been doing on land was/is really interesting. Love to see the process of building a small boat
I really like your explanation and will continue to watch.👌
Absolutely video the boat build, I as well as many would enjoy watching it. You both are living life on your terms and showing that anything is possible if one puts their mind, heart and sole into it. Your transition to the bush has inspired many more than you probably realise. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures.
Thanks!
Yes it would be nice to see the build
Yes to build series, yes, yes yesss
Thank both of you for great videos, be it sailing, rebuilding or refitting a boat, creating a farm or cooking ideas they are great. Keep it up.
Yes please build a pathfinder, I'm glad you're having a land adventure and sharing it too. I'm on a sea break right now as well, rebuilding a house, growing food and just looking for the micro adventure boat to scratch that itch. Similar themes. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks guys loved watching your travels at sea. 💯✅
Thanks for sharing and telling us about your new adventures looking forward to it will have to go back now and watch from the start 👍
Would love to see your boatbuilding prowess Troy. Thank you both for all your great vids
A resounding YES on the topic of sharing your boat building chapter! I've been here from the beginning and I don't intend to stop watching. Every episode is worth watching. Thumbs up! Cheers!
I like the boat build!
Ill be there for the boat build for sure look forward to it.
We have enjoyed your adventures for the last few years!!! Your happy adventures have been so much fun to watch ❣️ So glad you will be passing your knowledge on to the next generation too!!! God bless you all 💖
Love to watch you build a boat.
You are an amazing family. "Good on you"
Yes, please document building new sail boat.Great show your both blessed along with beautiful daughter.
Absolutely would watch you build project, tbh I stopped watching the channel when you stopped sailing as just wasn't too interested in the home steading. Great to see you guys still enjoying yourself.
Found the sailing late, binged it for a week, and then you announced the change. Love both formats, and resumed gardening a few months ago while working on a slow-paced boat refit. So yes, understand the call of both lifestyles, appreciate all the content (new and old), and happy for you three and all the other mammals!
Love the new boat build vids and homesteading keep it up
You gave me so much pleasure with your sailing videos. I learned so many things from you about living onboard that I am applying to my dream of living at sea. Thank you 😊
It's great to catch up again, and your plans for a new boat are really interesting. I would love to follow Troy's tips and tricks and Pascie's down to earth help and joy for life.
Thanks guys
Grant.
Whatever you do it turns out very interesting, so I’ll be following along.
I would enjoy watching you build a boat and any other projects you can dream up. You are two beautiful, generous people and I love watching and learning from your adventures. Keep the video's coming.
Great to see y'all. We are on opposite tracks, left our farm to the kids and sailing around Yucatan Mx now. Have fun!
Love to watch the farm and boat-building as well!
I enjoy you two so much. You said it yourself, you are the same people! I believe you will make the decisions that are best for you and your growing family. 🇨🇦
