- This model airport is highly modified so as to not take over my entire house and has been reduced to roughly 150 inches long by about 60 inches wide. Hope to add some cargo buildings in the future and touch up the remote international terminal/ parking as well. The remote terminal/ parking is new and nearly complete at this point. I have expanded twice but have pretty much run out of real estate so to speak. :)
This is fantastic! I'm getting this airport for my 30th birthday in 2 days, but have the excitement of a 5 year old! You have done a super job.
Glad to hear! 20 models is a nice amount. I suggest collecting with a specific theme: airport, region of the world ect, or you can become massively overwhelmed with everything produced.
Thanks! It still amazes me as well! My airport is currently undergoing a remote parking renovation and expansion. It will accommodate 5 jumbo's being unloaded with jet bridges side by side. The current set up will change within the next month. EVA 77W and JAL 744 One World inbound by the end of the week. The fun continues!! :)
you are so lucky that you have an airport like that...and that many airplnes too
great video
Fantastic airport ,i really like the satellite gates ,also great video. Hope to have my airport finished this month.
I agree but it is so worth it if you can make it work! I am pleased with the terminal. Takes this collecting to a whole new level.
WOW very nice collection! Im just starting my collection with the Delta 777, CRJ, and 737! :)
Thanks! They have been updated and redesigned in my most current video anre are not quite like this anymore. Good luck with the completion of yours.
Awesome! I would have thought Alaska would have a significant presence at your airport::))
Thanks!! I literally am out of room for additional expansions. I am starting to see the value of 1:500 scale. I am trying to watch the number of models as well. I am kinda maxed out on Star Alliance members on the far end and need to get at least one Sky Team international member. What a hard hobby to keep under control!!
Thanks! They are indeed herpa buildings but have been modified slightly in the build to create a place for the jet bridges to enter the remote buildings. They do not need to be like the main terminal because they serve as remote/overflow unloading and parking.
love the airport and allegiant md-82 very very nice sir.
Thanks I think it is a nice addition to the collection. Gemini Jets needs to release more of these for other carriers. A DL M90 in the new colors would be quite nice indeed!
Thanks DeltaAirlinesFlyer! My goal is to keep the model count under 40 but I may branch out to 50 max for now. I seem to be doing well so far. I have recently obtained a small display case for those I refuse to part with but that I may not want at my airport currently. This upcoming month will be rough as Phoenix has come out with some great releases this coming month!
Not cheap! It is not too bad when compared with trains and a few others. Good luck with your efforts.
Plexiglass is used over the mat. It works quite well though there is a bit of a glare from certain angles.
Very nice choice! You will need to start fleeting lots of wide body Delta's-mainly 330's as that will soon be a very regular sight enmasse.
Yeah there has been a ban put on adding more 340's at my airport even as magnificent as they are. I like your choice of the KL 77W. I think I will investigate that choice. It would also add some nice color variation. I have a lot of red and white liveries.
pretty realistioc i like how u have put the one world allince jates together
great video, good job with the sound track !! :) sub and fav
Heathrow in 1:400?!?!!!!! You must send links when done! It will be huge. I obtained that JAL a year or so ago at a model shop in Vegas I believe. It is very hard to find again at this point. Also Herpa is kind of limited in 1:400 so yeah I'm not that optimistic. Watch Phoenix though as they seem to be pumping out 77W's lately. I just added V Australia 77W and a Gemini Singapore 340-500 in the current scheme. EVA B-16703 77W is on the way as well! Busy as always!! :)
Gemini Jets makes the mat and it is available online from various retailers and on ebay as well. I have modified it myself and designed it based on the room have available. The plexiglass is a bit thick 1/8 inch I believe so rather expensive but not too bad. A few hundred total I think. Thanks!
AWESOME AIRPORT DUDE
So I've heard!! Is that Gulf Air Phoenix? I hear their 77W molds are quite nice indeed.
I purchased the terminal from diecastairplane and I go the mats from Gemini Jets. Inbound are extensions for the jetbridges at my updated remote facilities. Also MU starts daily sevice with a 346 B-6050 this weekend from Shanghai!! :)))))) Talk about a hard model to find at a decent price! I will make a third video of my airport soon- between now and Jan 2010 as there have been some rather elaborate changes.
JA704J is another good example of what I was speaking of earlier though I would not get rid of it. That does not bother me personally. I would get rid of 9M-MRD for sure though. If it is only about collecting (as it is for many people) then fine but I like realistic looking current fleets. My jaw hit the floor when Phoenix released that Malaysia A380 wearing the Hibiscus scheme. Are they serious!! To each their own I guess. :)
Hi David That's Tina and Io
Nice airport!
Agreed! I like the chrome jumbo and am thinking about that one myself!! ANA is tough no triples or jumbos by Phoenix or Gemini as of yet that I can tell. Dragon makes a bunch but I am not really a fan of their stuff.
There are tons of retailers. It depends on where you are. I buy from the West Coast of the U.S. because I do not want to wait forever for shipping. I also have purchased on ebay and model stores.
Thanks! 1/400 is fantastic but you do indeed run out of room quickly!
Just a little advice air bridges only service the left side of aircraft and stairs service the right.
Very nice airport.
Negotiations have begun with KL and VA as well!! Both to operate 77W's. Though VA has preliminarily agreed to remote terminal/ parking conditions due to the limited slots available at the main terminal. AF will continue to code share with TN from CDG for now and possibly KL in the future with a connection through AMS. :)
cool set.
Approx 6 inches long with a 6 inch wingspan for heavies. A340-600's and 77W's are about an inch longer. The scale is 1:400
Thanks! That is very perceptive of you to notice!
Thanks it has been expanded in my second video with a control tower and second runway. :)
I bought these jumbos new some time ago when they were released. They are sold out. Ebay or the dreaded Hong Kong may be your only option.
Around 40 or so but I have traded or sold many others. I purchase them from a variety of different retailers in the U.S.
Even though its a model, how fun would it b to play with this with all your friends!!!!
It is indeed Herpa in the 1:400. That fact alone makes it kind of rare!
Thanks!! Got a few new arrivals starting service in the next couple weeks. Malaysia with a jumbo, EVA with a 77W and JAL to change equipment to a jumbo. diecastaiprplanecom quite some time ago now. It is made by GJ as you probably know.
Where is the mat from and who is it made by. Can you use as much as you like? Like, can you choose where you fit it? How thick is the plexi glass and how much is it? Great airport, well done! 5*
Great set! Was that a FedEx A380 in the end of the video? WTF!
Got it at a retail store in Vegas. Sold out currently I think. I cannot tell you where to find it now. Probably ebay.
Thanks! I agree Mexicana really shocked me with such an awsome livery. If the 332 was used in the US it would be here. Unfortunately that would kind of take away from the realistic nature of the airlines present.
I bought it soon after initial release. They come up on ebay every now and then. They are sold out at most retailers though.
I saw that but it won't wear it permanently. it will go back to the standard scheme before the livery is updated just like D-AIHC for example.
Agreed. Fortunately I have a buddy that lives 5 minutes away with an international airport large like mine!
Great I'd love to see it!
Our airport security is no joke! We will be fine!!
Lots of money must have went into this airport!
Nice airport
very nice!!
Do you have a thin layer of glass or plastic over the mats? It seems to be gleaming, looks clinical, I like it!
@johnsonran so where did you get a shortand version of the airport.the normal one is like 42 feet but yours is smaller.
do you buy a modified version,or is the airport(mat)made up of several panals
Funding has been approved for the proposed 27R addition and the approach is near completion!! :))))) Updated video to be added upon final completion. Parallel arrivals and departures to commence soon!
This airport is awesome!!!!! how long did it take you to make? and with the Qantas a380, how did you get the get bridges so high to reach the second floor?
did you like matchbox planes? Very nice video.
They don't service the area where I live so no. I would like to add an Avianca 762 at some point though.
Thanks for the feedback!
love ur collection btw were did u get that mat
amazing realy and where is your airport based
I just figured it out on you thread on Wings on the 77W's. Nice choices btw I am so tempted with that AF. Who do you fly for?
@Pawlowitch what country are you from? theres a huge gemini jets store in Canada and several in Europe
where did you get the virgin atlantic 747? and should i get a large runway mat and large taxiway mat or small runway mat and small taxiway mat??
A variety of retailers in the U.S. it depends on who has what I am looking for. I am a rather specific theme collector.
where did u get your virgin america a320 i habe been looking everywhere for that
man awesome and where is your airport based
The Gemini airport terminal with mats is apparently "39" by 54 inches approx can this be made any smaller
Correct. This is actually two mats cut and matched to fit the design and layout I want. There is no remote facilites in the original design and I have again redesigned the remote facilities since these videos. I will make an additional uodated video when I have time. The plexiglass including shipping came to about $200. I am pretty sure. Shipping was about $50
I am planning a 2nd runway expansion project despite previous funding restrictions. :) Will update with a new still image video upon completion.
Please tell me where you got the very small u.s airways plane, and the 2 star alliance planes
where how much was the qantas 389. ntw this is an awesome video
cool vid!!!!
did all of those airplanes come with the terminal of did you buy them sepritly???
Not particularly though Southwest, American and Delta have a significant presence currently. :)
Good one! Thanks!
do they still the terminal and mat at gemini jets website
did you like cut the air port mat??
Is there glass over the foil? What glass did u use?
Google the airplane shop. There are many online retailers as well.
nice airport! how much for the air canada jazz?
@johnsonran where do you buy the modified airport like you got
where did u get the united and air new zealand 747s? cheers =]
good video but where u buy this airport?
Omg dude this is sooo cooll plz write were you buy this?
where did u get ur airplanes from? and nice airport btw
Reminds me soo much of LAX :P!! is it ur fav airport??
I guess it was really expensive i'm lookin' out to build one of these airports i Yust think that i'll try going with Los ROdeos located on tenerife North :D
@ 3:05 i so want that qantas a380....what scale is it and will u swap? (only if its 1:200)
Froma bunch of different places. Mostly sold out now. Check gemini jets they are releasing more this month.
@akturksener123 why does everyone have an allegiant air and are they expensive?
Not quite like Dubai maybe somewhat similar in design and not at all with respect to the airlines but thanks for the compliments!
hey cud u pls tell me what is the scale of each aircraft and actual size. also from where did u get them???
Why not all three? If you must get them one at a time I would get the Allegiant then the AeroMexico and wiat for a release of the Hawaiian with winglets.
When you say you customised it yourself, do you mean you placed the different mat parts (6?) where you want. Are you saying all the plexi glass comes to a few hundred dollars or pounds?
i wonder how i can get an md-80/90 in amarican airlines
The terminal Is from Gemini jets as well as the mat.
Good airport nice
