    Another sweet show Chris thanks, please continue analysing surfing & surfboards in all of the detail you can. With each show I develop my own surfing & how to surf my boards. Most of all I appreciate you giving me the knowledge of what to talk about & ask for with my local shaper to help create the best board for me. Keep up the amazing work. Cheers from cold Victoria (Aus)

    Hey Chris love your show! I'm thinking about buying the v3 after seeing this and I'm just curious what sort of fins you would recommend for this board? I am about 150 pounds and would use this board for the few more powerful beach breaks and point breaks around the area I live. Cheers!

    Chris, I've been riding the V3 for a few months now and would recommend it for anyone looking for 2 board quiver. I've got a Nick Blair Cab Sav as my groveller, and then use the V3 in everything else. As you mentioned, knee high to overhead - it's magic!

    Can anyone help me out... Again haha. Lost website lists huge volumes and sizes and this makes me feel like ordering their smallest size is wrong. I'm 5'8 165 lbs I ride a 5'11 beach buggy inspired shortboard about 27 cL love it. I had a weekend warrior 5'8 that felt a little big though. I am on the fence About a 5'6 or a 5'7. Is this a board you'd rather undersize than oversize?

    Hello Chirs,wonder if you could give me a feed back on what volume should i order a V3 Rocket. I´m 37 Years old height 5´8 and weigth 170lbs, level intermediate and average fitness.
    I usually ride a fish 6.0 from local shapper but have no volume information, i´m leaning towards the 5´9 (30.44 liters) but in doubt about 5´10 (33liters) can you give me an indication on what possibly suit me better, my gap are waves from quick beach breaks but normally swels in Portugal (Cascais) aren´t above 6ft and i don´t want to loose speed to enter smaller crouwded waves.
    Thanks in advance all the best Nuno

      I’m an intermediate to advance surfer with 15+ years of surfing. I’m 37 years old, 5’9” and 205 pounds, 212 with a wetsuite on, and ride 36L to 40L. I got the V3 Rocket to replace my old everyday board the Sub Scorcher 2. I’m riding the V3 Rocket as a custom 6’2” (39L) and I have found that it’s more of a step up board. I need a wave that is head high or bigger and breaking more top to bottom for this board to really work well. I surf in SoCal and this board is probably only surfed maybe 30% of the time on the top end of the good surf range. The Sub Scorcher 2 is a better everyday board in my opinion.

    The way that you explained how the tail works reminded me when you were featuring the "New Flyer" by Channel Islands. As in, how the tail hip acts as a fulcrum as you apply pressure on the tail to gain speed... Could that be another function of the first set of wings? Does it act as a fulcrum like the tail hip on the flyer?

    Could you compare this board to Dane's #4?
    Would they perform similarly?

    • @SurfboardShredShow
      @SurfboardShredShow  10 лет назад +4

      Kijai - good question. Did you notice that both boards have nearly identical thickness and width when compared across the same length? You could likely expect #4 to feel a bit more drivey and slightly more directional down the line, while this board would likely give you a bit more pivot and performance in the pocket. #4 is also a bit more suited to real high performance groveling in stomach and smaller waves, while this board works in a bit bigger waves. The most noticeable design difference is how the V3 removes more surface area from the tail and does so more quickly along the outline towards the tail, while #4 puts the wings further back, making the surface area reduction happen later. The v3 likely holds more volume because the foil stays slightly thicker towards the nose, but I'm speculating on that because I don't have both boards in front of me.

    • @downdiver2
      @downdiver2 10 лет назад

      SurfboardShredShow Very interesting. I own the #4 and I just got my hands on a custom shaped v3. Havent rode it yet. But, why I got the V3 is I feel the #4 gets maxed out in bigger surf and in pitchy / hollower surf. I feel the tail slips out when it gets bigger. Great board though! I appreciate your reviews, thanks,

      SurfboardShredShow Christian Webb Hey you guys have some pretty sweet advice, I'm looking to get the board for a one board quiver, because i want to surf bigger more hollow waves when they come but most of the time all i get are mushy waist high waves. Will the V3 rocket be too difficult to paddle into the wave with?

    • @downdiver2
      @downdiver2 9 лет назад

      luke evason The V3 has been a dream to ride. I ride it in punchy waves, I leave it at home when it goes well above overhead though. But I custom shaped mine at 5'10 and I need my step up after it gets big.

    Loving the slowmo/technique review - please do more! I picked up a Black Sheep which combines the nose of the Rocket for speed and the tail of the subscorcher for turning. Really liking it. I had my eye on a v3 rocket, but cant find any deals on CL so I'll wait a year and pick one up. Your 'optimal waves' is exactly what I'm looking for and fits my style of surfing.

    Hi Chris, enjoying your reviews and the technical details you use to describe how the boards might ride and helps me understand my own style of surfing. thanks!
    I have a fark by Fletcher Chounard and really enjoy how it rides and like the whole philosophy behind the company and why they make boards the way they do.
    At 6'0, 20" 5/16, 2"5/8 and 33.4 L my fark paddles really well for me at 6'2 185, experienced surfer with the width up the board, turns really nicely in the pocket too. more good things about this board but would love to see your review and how you find it. Cheers!

    Just got a 5'6" RV 3 days ago and was using it in new symrna beach, FL when it was between 1-3 feet. I've been surfing a year and am noticing a huge improvement in my surfing after changing boards! Chose the RV after watching your review and couldn't be happier. This v3 rocket might make a good board for my next venture for when the surf is bigger especially since Florida waves really don't give you any speed.
    I'm really interested in seeing a review on something much more different could you try to do the Bing Speed Square? Looks ridiculous

  • @SunriseSessions
    @SunriseSessions 10 лет назад

    Hi Chris, Thanks for all the great reviews! I learned heaps from them. I was wondering if you have a chance to do a review on the SUPERbrand the Fling? And if you would rate it as an all out groveler. I surf and live in the Netherlands and we only surf windswell here.
    From this perspective I have one more question, about volume. It's easy enough to figure out my volume for places like france or portugal but for our sloppy wind swell waves I always opt for about 3 to 5 liters more. I'm just wondering if that doesn't frustrate the shape and the purpose of some of the boards (making them just floating devices instead of fine-tuned surfboards because they become to long for the way the were shaped and my weight.) Thing is the waves are really, seriously, sloppy ;-) We do go abroad for surf trips but if got a nice quiver for that ;-)
    Thanks in advance! Cheers

  • @themocst
    @themocst 10 лет назад

    Given the different versions of the rocket all still available v1-v2-v3-v2stub a good episode would be comparing and looking at all three and why you would buy one of the older ones over the v3.

  • @joaoduquesantos3729
    @joaoduquesantos3729 10 лет назад

    Hey Chris, again great job in breaking down the v3.
    Question: How these wings position compare to the ones in the #4? And how it influences the board drive and release? I know there is only two wings in the #4 but from seeing the episodes I notice that those are more lined up with the fins. And that in the v3 each position of the wings is where you set you back foot depending on what is your next move on the face of the have (speed and go air like in the Nate Yeomans clip).
    Keen on earing from u regarding this!
    Cheers from PT

Skill level advanced, I'm athletic and fit but can just go surfing for a couple of weeks during the year. So should i go with a 5'7 or even 5'6? Or stay on the save side with a 5'8?
    Thanks for helping me out

      I'm about 5'10, calculated it wrong. So I guess a 5'8 would be perfect.

    Chris, Another amazing show. I look forward to these all week. One obvious question that would be great if you addressed... Why does Lost have a V2 and a V3 Rocket? What is difference so I can determine which board would be best for me?

      The short version - Get the V2 if you want a ripable shortboard for waves under stomach high that feels more on top of the water than a standard shortboard. Get the v3 if you want that same on top of the water feel that you get from shorter wider boards, but want more options in waves above stomach high. The difference is that the V2 has a wider nose and tail, and the V3's nose and tail is more narrow. A lot of surfers could have fun on both boards and not notice the difference, so don't over think it.

    I live on Long Island and finally gave in and got the V3 Rocket. Perfect board to help me make these closing out beach break sections that we get most of the time. Fastest board I've ever ridden! I thought my JC Flying Pig was fast but this blows that board away. Only complaint is I'm mostly a back footed surfer being that I grew up on a skateboard. Any suggestions for a more back footed oriented board that would feel solid yet fast in these Long Island conditions?

      I'm also from Long Island and have a rocket too. I have the original rocket but they are pretty similar. I found that putting my foot really far back like on the end of the tailpad helps keep that back footed style.

    Hi Chirs. Based on your review and what waves I surf I've decided to order myself a V3 Rocket but undecided on what size to get. I'm 5'8" and 66kg (145lbs), 44 years old and an average/intermediate surfer. I've only recently discovered what a difference the volume of a board can make. I would say I'm above average fitness for my age but only get to surf once a week if I'm lucky. I got a 6'0 Fred Rubble a few months ago which is 28.6 L and feels pretty good but still not sure if it has enough volume or too much. Based on that I was thinking a 5'8" V3 at 29 L but would love to hear your thoughts on this.
    Love the show.
    Cheers, Warren.

      +LambMadras I ended up with the 5'9 based on advise from lost. I was also able to pickup a second hand 5'8 but ended up selling it again as I prefer the 5'9 much more. The 5'9 Seems to work better for me anyway. Hope that helps.

      +LambMadras Also the rails seemed a bit more refined on the 5'9 for some reason.
