Richmond business owner discusses car-free Cary Street

Could a plan to make a section of Cary Street a pedestrian, bike and transit-only street be in the works?
The group Richmond Connects just released its 2024 Transportation Action Plan, which includes a project that would close Carytown -- the section of Cary Street between North Thompson Street and Arthur Ashe Boulevard -- to cars.
The plan confirms that the data collected by Richmond Connects suggests that there a need for safety improvements in Carytown, an area the group has identified as being dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers.

It’d be so wonderful to be able to walk Cary Street! Studies show it increases traffic to businesses. There are ways to build infrastructure to allow deliveries and such.

This has nothing to do with a green agenda. It's about the dangers to pedestrians in the area. There's so much traffic and many drivers are stupid 😢

Where u gonna park ? There no where to parka car .Also No where to build it !!Carytown was never meant to be center of excellence. It just became that because the community is small in that area .these are town roads that actual residence have paved for many years up until the city started in about 1980 not are meant alot of traffic. It for small Business not for every. Business out there ..
Making it car free is huge mistake. The suburb is right across the way. .those folk do not want you there and parking ur car there ruining their peace for many years of no issues.. they don't want you in Cambridge Rd nor oxford road areas .Pushing traffic to libbie area./Westhampton. Cary st road. To park. In which traffic is horrendous Again are you going to make that car free too. Westhampton areas ? What did think would happen building apartments everywhere and no homes ? U jam 15k new people in small area.Now you got 17k cars on the road. Tight town roads !!
Matter of fact where the citizen vote? See what I'm saying. They don't play fair . I'm vote leave it as it is. All they will do is rip up area for parking lot & more apartments. Stop building apartments!! Start building houses!. Matter of vote the area of westend city council member out!!
