How to Brew: Belgian Tripel Homebrew Beer Recipe

- In this brewing video we're making a Belgian Tripel. A Belgian Tripel is a traditional golden ale that has a high ABV with a sweet flavor and dry finish. This beer is commonly drunk during celebrations or parties and in this video, we're brewing our Belgian Tripel to take to a wedding and share with family and friends. Some of the most famous Belgian Tripel varieties, like the Westmalle Tripel, are brewed in monasteries by monks. This homebrew recipe is an extremely easy one to make that yields great results, we recommend you follow along with this tutorial and brew it just like we did. Although, you could make a yeast starter instead of just buying a lot of yeast as we did. Midway through this homebrewing video, we take a trip to a local bottle shop and buy a Westmalle, Dulle Teve, and Allagash Tripel. Then, we take a trip to New Belgium brewery and buy their Tripel to make a beermosa (beer and orange juice). In our opinion, the New Belgium Tripel is best for making a beer mimosa and we show you how to do it in this video. To finish this brew day out, we add candy syrup to the wort in order to boost the ABV and give our tripel a sweeter flavor. We also add two packs of WLP530 Abbey Ale Yeast from White Labs. We recommend you pair this beer with bold foods like ham and cheese or spicy cajun style foods like andouille sausage. Check out the resources below for brewing equipment, a tripel tasting video, a recipe, and an informative article about the history of the Westmalle Tripel.

Watching this, while on vacation in Belgium. Getting my Belgium beer cherry popped. Drinking tripel, seeing dubbel, feeling single, watching Clawhammer. Can't wait to start making belgian beer at home. This sh*t is insanely good
"set some alarms!" (13:40)
"have another beer" (13:49)
-->boil over foam on kettle (14:00)
Aquaman's living his best life
I love Ross' Darkthrone "Translyvanian Hunger" patch on his jacket! What a great, informative, and awesome vid!
Try the Karmeliet Triple if you can find it. Best Belgian triple!
Tastes like lemon pie! Ordering some in from Belgium since they don't sell it where I'm from in Canada
It tastes like jasmine and banana to me, quite a complex taste, super silky in the mouth
nahh it's the Westmalle ahah (joking, but to me it's the best one)
@@drsquid8124 Canada must be hard to find Belgian beer ( i live in Belgium, 15min away from the Orval abbey)
I love that this "rare" Allagash beer is brewed literally an hour from my house. I can throw a rock from my porch in 6 directions and hit a store that has it on the shelf.
I'm belgian and would love to taste that tripel you brewed! My favorite belgian tripel these days is Cornet. It's an oak aged tripel @ 8,5% abv. Check it out if you guys are able too and keep up the good work and next time brew a quadrupel!
I travelled through belgium. Had some awesome beers everyday
Yuck cornet
Beers are aged in barrels?
@@ashwinsnmv it used to be common back in the days, nowadays not so much anymore
Flemish myself, I'm more of a stout guy but my favorite tripel is probably Duvel
I don't often comment, but I'm starting to go into withdrawal from lack of videos! You guys got me back into homebrewing this year, so I hope you keep up your channel!
You know Ross, I kept trying to place where I had seen you before then I remembered you did our tour at New Belgium a few months ago. Nice work!
You drove right past my bar... I have several belgian triples. Straffe, St bernardus, karameliet.
(Karmeliet tripel👍) st bernardus you gotta go for the abt12
@@colemontsandy3424 I have that too. Both in 330ml and 750ml
Hi Guys, home brewer and beer lover from Belgium here.
First, congratulations for all your videos. They are great!
Just one remark about the foam.
While it's true that we like foam in Belgium, I would say that 30% of foam is the maximum acceptable in the glass.
Oh, yeah, and I love your description of the quadruple :)
Keep up the good work. Cheers ;)
Fabian- Thanks!
no new videos for more than a month!
are you guys okay ?
@@metromusic5725 on your bike then flog
The first realistic brew day I've seen you guy's do. Always pounding a couple on brew day's.
I've often woke up the morning after, forgetting there ever was a brew day
burzum darkthrone and a tripel? insta sub
Who's still watching the old CH videos and missing the Ross/Emmett tag team? *cries*
Liked for ross' darkthrone backpatch.
"transilvanian hunger SO pure!"
"Drink a triple, See in double, Feel like single"
I atleast need to go octuple to become so drunk that I see double and feel like im single but that's a pretty good one!
I have to agree with Ross on New Belgium's Tripple as being my favorite. I'm going to try that beermosa thing.
If you ever are in Austin, real ale makes a really good tripel
Yeaaaaaaaa!!!! Ross and Emmet badabing badabing boom! Awesome duo, like Kyle and Rachel!
My favourite tripel is tripel karmeliet
The recipe says to cold crash @ 1C for at least 1 month before bottling.... sounds crazy did you guys follow that?
This bad boy cold crashed for a month
Burzum, Dark Throne, trippel westmalle, la strappe, rochfor, chimay, westvletren , ecc. great stuff.
'round here we call the beer-mosa a man-mosa.
Ohhhhh hell yeah!!!!!
Love the Dark Throne 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Beard covers 100% of the Burzum font ;D
Nice Burzum t-shirt 🤟🏻
Belgian tripel is one of my favorites either. If i may recomment you some fine Belgian tripels, that would be Tripel Karmeliet and Gouden Carolus Tripel. Try them, you won't regret it !
Have you tried la fin du monde?
Yes. I like the Gouden Carolus Classic. Off topic maybe, it is a bruin at 8.5. There are more great Belgian beers than there are days. Let's see, the list goes on. As a beer lover, the chance to live in Europe has been a rewarding experience.
that was the funniest home brew video i ever seen. Ross was hammered.
The correlation between blonde, double, trip, and quad & the ABV is a rule of thumb at best. If you order a Blonde in Belgium, expect it to be 6-9% ABV. It isn't just a sliding scale in my experience. Not too mention the difference in flavor between them
Never wanted a beermosa more in my life.
I've had the Vicar's Tipple Tripel recipe saved in my "to-brew" list. Looks even more awesome after watching this! I've done a lot of dubbels, but never a tripel. I'm going to change that 🍺😎
Nice t-shirt, yeah Burzum :-)
Great vid! Drink a Tripel, you'll be seeing double..and act like your single.. ;-)
man, drinking some ten percent at a wedding... a lot can go wrong.. but then again people do drink wine which is 12 percent.. its such a shame how these days people sit there drinking alcohol with a straight face in order to behave responsibly... isnt it supposed to be festive? i always get in trouble when i become festive.. like, oh youre starting to have fun.. just try to sit there and be quiet.. so lame.. the future is terrible..
As a european this got me so excited and happy. "Have you have had uhhh,, Kasteel?"
Kasteel red or also called the rapist beer in Belgium ahah
Nice beer! How long did it mature for?
Worlds cleanest camera transition at 8:13
Editor is worth more money
wow! that's true!
you actually dont need to be so careful with sanitation.. and boiling kills all the natural yeast already in the wort. the style lambic sets the wort out in the open air to collect natural yeasts blowing in the wind.. also, if you just cover grain with water and let it sit it will start fermenting with the yeast thats already on it.. im brewing some pearl barley beer with the barley and the hops in a gallon jug to experiment with this. i used no yeast and didnt boil anything. ill just filter it later and put into a secondary fermenter when it stops bubbling.
I'm not really a fan of strong beers myself, but this vid was one of your best! Awesome stuff guys, i might try a single or dubbel next. Cheers!
How long did you condition that Tripel before serving it? Some say to give it 6 months and some say a couple weeks is good enough.
Going to miss Ross 😭
Emmet: "Mr. Ross"
Ross: "Mr....Emmet?"
5:28 Transilvanian Hunger 🖤
I didn’t even notice until you pointed it out! Kudos to the post production work!
Brewing next your Mama? and Then you follow up with that justare!!👎🏼 makes me want to unsubscribe!!!!
Okay Belgian Trippel, light in colour 8 plus abv, then OJ and beer, huh! Ah... its a "Ladyboy" Alan Partridge used to drink then while he was staying at the motel.
Hey guys,
it's my first time making this type of beer and the recipe as well and one thing is confusing. So you mashed the malt at (64.4° C) for 90 minutes onece? And did you turn off the heat when you reached 64.4 C or let ket it up for the whole 90 minutes. The process got me confused. thanks
Thnx for all the awesome videos guys! Brewed this recipe this summer. It’s really awesome.
Entertaining. But it’s not an instructional video at all. Came here to learn how to brew the triple, didn’t learn much as they don’t explain anything...............
Love it! Wanna brew it my selves… but one question: how do you know how much acid to put in there for adjusting the ph?
Love your videos! Inspiring ❤🍻
I watched this while enjoying a Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel.
What are the fermentation times and transfer times. I’m brewing a Pliny kit and am expecting a 8.2% and want to try more.
A little fun fact, that beer you picked up: Dulle Teve beer, translates to angry bitch beer xD
Flemish here, Try St. Bernardus Abt or La Trappe Quadruppel!
Legit saw someone get stabbed there when I was in highschool. Wild - I didn’t realize you were local
“Couple a four trippels.”
“Fuckin’ Christ.”
This is just such a cozy vid. Same with Hammer Party BIPA.
Love the tripel style! i would have just added some table sugar for the missing syrup.. its almost the same! And one of the most impotant parts of the tripel style is the massive abv=))
It's not a real black metal shirt unless both armpits are blown out and you have a series of holes on the lower front from your belt. He's doing it right
In terms of raw spillage, this is for sure the cleanest grain pour that Emmett has ever pulled off 😂
Ended under 9 so it’s a Dubel
Looks amazing, have you ever heard of Dry Belgian Ale yeast by The Yeast Bay,it's absolutely fantastic!
That s how viking lives in the modern day lol nice beer 🍺 and good home brewers with a style really nice
Westmalle tripel, for me the best beer in the world. Everyday a few 😂
The normal pilsner belgian beers are not 3% but 5% alc. !!!
How much is an all-grain brew system for 5 gallons of beer?
Дешёвые понторезы. Куча пафоса, сути мало!
Westmall is boring. val dieu triple is much better
Question, If I would start distilling alcohol for personal use. And would like to upload it on RUclips. What are the legal restrictions? And would I get into trouble?
Sorry if that's been answered a gazillion times, but do you have the list of the parts appearing at 16:22? I'm not very proficient in that kind of DIY, and my current solution relies on a 60 inch 3/8 braided hose line and a 3/8' cap when I'm not using it; I'd much prefer having a solution with a valve that connects to a garden hose just like you guys. Any help? (PS: First batch today on my brand new Clawhammer 120v, that was so smooth---except for that bit under the sink :D )
You guys should Try Karmeliet tripel
Don't know if it's available in the US, but if so you should really try the Jopen Tripel. It isn't Belgian but Dutch. Nevertheless it is still delicious
Yo guys, whats the size of your mill crush? 0.5 or 0.25?
Full volume BIAB is .25 or the width of a credit card.
New Belgium Trippel tastes like bubblegum.
Brewed this. Cut down the Pilsner to 12lbs and added 4oz aromatic malt. Used 2lb candi sugar. Preboil was 1.061 and FG was 1.103. No idea how
Funniest video ever from Claw Hammer.
awesome video, any recommendation on shelf life?
Why does everyone have to look like a wood elf with a greasy beard?
Hey guys, just checked out this recipe on the Craft Beer and Brewing website. I’m excited to try my hand at it but it mentions lagering near freezing for a month and I don’t have the resources to do that. Did y’all just let it ferment at ambient room temp the whole time? If so, did you ferment it longer than the standard two week home brew time? Thanks!
os gringo é metido eles não faz lavagem
Anyone know what the batch size is on this receipe. Just made it recently assuming 20L and I wasn't able to achieve that golden colour. Not too sure why considering that my malt actually has a higher SRM than the dingemans that Clawhammer used.
I like beer so much, I had drink 50 liters in one month
Would this have benefited from a reiterated mash?
belgium what nice a nice country :D
Westmalle is good but i like Rochefort a bit more
Damn beards are gross. Glad I can’t grow one.
Did you guys lager this for a month as the recipe states, or did you skip that? Great video as always!
I was wondering the same?
Somebody else asked if they "cold crashed" @ 1C, and they said they cold crashed for a month. That basically sounds like lager to me.
I feel like I just saw a Leatherman Skeletool
Also Belgium, nice to see that people love and like our beers. Good job. Also nice to see, that you get more and more dronk at your brewing day!! Ha ha
Belgium triples are the max!!!!
Congrats from… Belgium. Think you nailed it 😉 I see you also have the popular Orval over there, which sometimes even gets sold out over here. 😅
these combo videos are probably my favorite videos to come back and watch over and over.
Hello sir ....can this business open in nepal....
I love brewing buzzed
As a metal head I can relate to this guys t-shirt. I have many that used to black but are now gray, picture faded, holes under armpits and in front of the shirt. I don't know why, but I still use them daily.
It's like he's jay and silent Bob
This makes me happy and sad. I brewed a fantastic triple on a small scale (about 7 gallons) and everyone tricking loved it. So much so that the brewery I work at let me brew a 10 barrel batch. Unfortunately we got a wild yeast into the ferment via the honey we used and it was so phenolic we had to dump the batch.. Gonna try again in August. But I just got my claw hammer system in today and I'm gonna try this recipe out
did you lager this at all I see a lot of recipes asking for that for the style

What que I put if I don’t get the syrup?
Hey clawhammer supply! I'm planning to brew this beer soon. How much time did it take to ferment?
I like the double darkthrone outerwear.
