    Chill your glass in a freezer and after a hot day of hard work I promise you will hear Pavarotti on your first sip. I remember coming back to crown larger after my craft beer faze, and I have 0 idea why I ever left. Number one beer for me.

    First I want to say.. a lager needs to be ICY COLD!!!! ...as the brewer intended!
    I don't know where you guys are from.. but I used to love strong hoppy beers when I was living in Melbourne.. I would still drink lagers here and there. Since moving to North Queensland I don't really feel like drinking craft beer at all. I never thought I would enjoy XXXX gold or Great Northerns.. but I understand the appeal now and drink them on occasion.
    My partner, myself and another couple did a taste test between XXXX Gold, XXXX Bitter, Tooheys New, Carlton Draught, Melbourne Bitter, Victoria Bitter, James Boags Premium Lager and Crown Lager. The intention was to actually compare the famous Aussie lagers in the one sitting. I was most interested in seeing how Crown stacks up, thinking maybe its just the pretty bottle convincing us all that it is a premium beer. We averaged out all our rankings.. Well, turns out Crown was the favourite overall! Pleasant, refreshing, but strong flavour compared to the others. Carlton Draught came in second by default as it was a decent refreshing beer with nothing strange going on.. but at the same time nothing special.. I ended up buying a longneck about a week later and found it very boring! XXXX Gold came in 3rd, VB in 4th, Boags 5th, XXXX Bitter 6th, Melbourne bitter 7th and Tooheys New came in last.. it actually tasted gross up against the others.
    I see/hear a lot of hate on your typical Aussie lager. Seems like pretentiousness to me. It's a particular style of beer. You don't have to like it but it's certainly not crap. It has its place.

    One of those brews that Aussies put on a pedestal and pay a premium price for. Personally, I’d rather drink urine.

      its exactly the same as Fosters because it is Fosters... just rebranded, repackaged and sold to gullibles for a premium price.

  • @cleaver3519

    Crown is the sort of beer in Australia if you have people from all around the country at the same party, you buy that so you don't start an argument over it where the best everyday beer is heavily debated. Wheres VB, Coopers, XXX, Tooheys, Carlton etc. fists fly after a few, coopers pale is my regular drink. Crown Its expensive for a slab and few would complain about it getting it but its bog standard, unremarkable and overpriced premium Carlton draught but brewed for the eye as u said.

    Regardless of the "it is what it is " stance, I think you've been generous there with your 6/10.
    Crown is marketed and priced as THE premium lager in Australia, yet tastes as bad as all the others on sale there. Similar nasty chemical flavour to Fosters, here in the UK.
    There's some great craft coming through now as you say, but out of the mass produced stuff , the safest bet is Little Creatures in my humble opinion.

    • @NELCARM
      @NELCARM 7 лет назад +3

      Little Creatures now owned by LionNathan who is owned by Kirin. Yes they make good beer & they are now doing seasonal stuff ,Red Rye Ale for example.They also now own White Rabbit . So its Australia's biggest brewer trying to lay claim to the market sector that wants better beer but at a price point only so much above the cheap piss. They also have the James Squire brand. All brewed by the same outfit ,all arrives on the same truck & trying to squeeze the little guys out of the big pubs by doing discounted keg deals.

    • @R.C.M..
      @R.C.M.. 7 лет назад +1

      Yes, I've heard this. What I was trying to get across that if there is little choice in a pub, or hotel as they say in Australia, then Little Creature is often the best bet, if available. Much of it is nats piss lager. But this is going back to 2012, it maybe different now.

    • @NELCARM
      @NELCARM 7 лет назад +2

      Your 100% right ,still.Whats changed is the company selling the "cheap piss" also now owns what used to be the independent alternative.Little Creatures/White Rabbit was the beer I looked for ,same as you. Its not as good now ,its been fucked with by economies of scale but its better still better than macro crap,Toohey's Hahn,Carlton. What burns me is they shut the little guys out of a lot of the pubs by locking up taps with discount deals. The pub next to my work in the city has as its better beers Asahi,Little Creatures,White Rabbit ,James Squire ,every bloody one of them from Lion Nathan/Kirin.

    I'd take a Peroni or Asahi out of the mega swill crap that they sell down here. Otherwise I brew my own beer. A very generous 6 mate.
    Keep up the good work! Love your channel!!

      Its big company beer that is truly generic in taste. I could name another 10 beers from Australia that don't taste 10% different from this one.All made by our 2 big fat, lazy,greedy beer companies,Carlton & Lion Nathan.

  • @martinscown1117
    @martinscown1117 7 лет назад +1

    You're definitely right that it is not a great beer, it is a mass produced lager, and I steer away from it, and enjoy ales much more than lagers. However, I don't believe there is lime in it, it must be the hop profile in the beer giving that taste. If you can get your hands on it, try some Gage Roads beers. They are a craft brewery in Perth, WA and their beers are quite nice.
