I have had been lucky enough to own both a lightning and a ram srt10 i still have the red ram srt10. I had a red 2001 lightning. I love both trucks...the advantage of the lightning is the automatic transmission. The ram has more potential but you need a good driver. Still love both trucks.

Problem is the shifter is still crazy long since it's in a truck and the trow is crazy long haha even with the S1. Some guy swapped a manual into a Silverado with a nice center console and engineered a true short throw and it's crazy short and shifts perfect, really cool setup.
I bought two brand new Lightnings from Satcher Ford in Aiken S.C. in 2004 ,one red for me and a silver one for my wife. 2004 was the last production year for the Lightnings . I just traded both Lightnings at Wyatt Johnson Ford in Nashville TN. For a Shelby Super Snake F-150 lowered 4x4 street truck ,750 hp , 850 lb ft torque , loaded with all options . I loved both our Lightnings ( both were garge kept and were in EXCELLENT CONDITION , very low mileage also , and neither was ever raced on the street or at the strip.Both were incredibly fast and got decent fuel mileage ,even towing my Ranger Z520 bass boat. I have a friend who has a DODGE SRT 10 and I would not trade a set of wheels off of a Lightning for a complete Dodge SRT 10 . TRUCK TO TRUCK THERE'S NO COMPARISON , YOU CAN NOT TOW ANYTHING WITH THE DODGE -PER THE FACTORY SPECS ,THE DODGE WAS ABOUT $20,000 MORE IN COST WHEN I BOUGHT MY LIGHTNINGS AND -again per factory specs -was only 5mph faster than the Lightning top end. I guess it come down to what you prefer , a real truck (the Lightnings)with great performance or a glorified drag strip vehicle you can do nothing with but race. I'LL STICK WITH THE FORD ALL DAY LONG !!!!
Who cares with what specs say all you have to do is change the bumper if you want to really cry about it. You remember the V10 was actually a pulling motor to. Let's not try to be a Ford person lets kind of be equal here. the SRT-10 is 165 mile an hour truck the 0 to 60 is faster than the lightning. Yes the SRT-10 has more horsepower but the truck weighs five or six hundred pounds more. And if you can upgrade the SRT 10 more than you could ever do to that SVT. all you have to do is look at the space under the hood. You're just sold on Ford that is it.
It looked to me like the Dodge spun it's wheels in the beginning and by the time it hooked-up the Ford was pretty far ahead. After that it seemed like the gap stayed pretty close to the same till the end. Hard to say what would've happened if they had equally good launches. I like the idea of having a V10 truck but the Ford Lightning is the more well engineered vehicle.
Not to mention that the Lightning is supercharged whole the srt-10 is n/a. The lightning was gonna have a better launch but perhaps if they roll on it the srt-10 could beat it out.

This is beyond simple. The Dodge may be considered the fastest production truck every made, but that relates to top speed only. As the description states...2003 Ford F-150 Lightning vs 2004 Dodge SRT-10 (Regular Cab, Short Bed). Dodge has a cold air intake, Lightning has pulley/tune/intake/exhaust. This means that both trucks are not stock, but the lightning has an advantage with a better pulley and tune. Remember, speed and acceleration is based off power moving weight. The Dodge weighs approx. 5,130lbs, the lightning weighs approx. 4,600lbs. Add the lightings pulley, tune, and superior torque, its a wrap. The Srt will not be able to keep up no matter how you slice it. For those of you that are comparing stock horsepower...Remember HP and RWHP are two different numbers. Just because the manufacturer tells you that a car or truck is getting 505hp does not mean that the hp number is being produced at the wheel. Furthermore, torque is were the rubber meets the road.

What does that have to do with weight to power ratio? Automatic or standard would not make a difference in regards to the weight to power ratio. Even if he shifted with perfection, it would not make a difference. Furthermore, Ford did not create the lightning for lesser educated ford enthusiast. Just look up the specs on both vehicles. If you know anything about them, you can clearly see that anything within a 1/4 mile will favor the lightning. A Texas mile run would prove there's an advantage with the SRT-10. Simple math with a spreadsheet made in the 1980's could tell you the same thing.
These are great comparison charts for stock based, but I referred to the power to weight ratio because of what each truck has in it. Read the description of the video. The SRT-10 is stock with an intake, and the lightning has the intake, lower pulley upgrade, and a tune job. The upgrades alone will add much more power than what the SRT-10 has to offer.

I like beer. And the SRT10 is hardly a purpose built exotic. It's a 2v 506cu v10. Just good ole' large poorly engineered displacement. I'm not knocking it, I like raw power. It's the cornerstone of muscle car history. Large 2v engines have been in our domestic car line up for close to 70 years; kinda makes that small displacement blown v8 seem a little more "exotic" and purpose built, although really neither of them are impressively engineered.

Stock svt lightnings had 420 hp and 450 lb/ft. Underrated just luke the cobras. It was a real pick up truck. You could haul with it go to hr track race and they handle for a truck. Srt10's are way overrated. I like em but there not as fast as the Viper truck name would make it seem. They dont beat the lightning bad stock for stock and its definiyely a race won or lost off the line
The 2004 ford lightning had the latest and last motor for the lightning...rated at 380hp and 440 torque. Was not under-rated. Was a different setup up, cam, and tune then the cobra. Different intake manifold as well.

Not that I'm a due hard Dodge fan but this truck was completely stock and was clean as hell. Now we all know that the SRT10's are slow but in no way does it need to go to the dump.
If you're dumping a ton of money into either of these, the SRT-10 will go waaaay farther, stock the lightening already has a supercharger. You know how much power you can get from just a blower on a 8.3 v10 viper engine? It's unreal what size can do for you when sinking money into mods.
And look at how much space is under the hood of both. Barely any space in the sVT. And the viper at least a foot on both sides of the motor and the srt motor sits real low and this was done deliberately.

The SRT-10s aren't too much quicker than Lightnings. Besides, with those single cab 6-speed Ram SRT-10s, you've got to drive them perfectly to get a decent time out of them. They're heavy, the clutches are shit, and they can't put their power down to save their souls. The Lightnings, on the other hand, are easy to get off the line and get quick quarter mile times out of.

Actually the 5.4 lightning is the closest thing to a gt engine only difference is internals and fuel system. Carrol shelby said that the 5.4dohc was the best engine ford ever built. The gt is still a 5.4 whether u want to admit it or not. If the lightning was a carbon fiber aluminum bodied truck and it would easily run 180+ mph. The gt is running a 50k dollar engine. The lightning had a 10-12k engine. But comparision shows that 5.4 vs 8.3 vs 6.0 vs 7.0 v8 and v10 and v12 engines the 5.4 dohc gt still kills them all. The koinsegg... engine is based of of the 4.6 dohc engine and its first engine was the 4.6 punched to a 4.7 4.8 and it was a 245mph car. The new shelby is running a 5.8l 4 cam engine and stock form brand 200mph car the first american car to do it. Miwa go the funny part is they took the viper motor and put it in the truck so yea stock to stock it may win but here is the funny part, take that same viper motor and put it in a viper against the Lightning motor put into the GT and you get the gt winning heads up. The SRT truck personally I laugh at cause you have a much larger motor drawn from a muscle car that is in another class to beat a smaller motor. Either the lightning wasnt stock or the guy couldnt drive the viper. 505 hp vs at most stock 380 isnt even in the same class. The viper was and still is the fastest production truck. Google it. yea the lightning is modded read the description, the truck is easier to mod for sure but ride wise I prefer the lightning it sits lower so you can steer it around at higher speeds better

Lightning will always be my favorite single cab but it's not faster than the SRT10. Wheel lost doesn't compare this race, just driver.

I like beer. And the SRT10 is hardly a purpose built exotic. It's a 2v 506cu v10. Just good ole' large poorly engineered displacement. I'm not knocking it, I like raw power. It's the cornerstone of muscle car history. Large 2v engines have been in our domestic car line up for close to 70 years; kinda makes that small displacement blown v8 seem a little more "exotic" and purpose built, although really neither of them are impressively engineered.

Stock svt lightnings had 420 hp and 450 lb/ft. Underrated just luke the cobras. It was a real pick up truck. You could haul with it go to hr track race and they handle for a truck. Srt10's are way overrated. I like em but there not as fast as the Viper truck name would make it seem. They dont beat the lightning bad stock for stock and its definiyely a race won or lost off the line

The 2004 ford lightning had the latest and last motor for the lightning...rated at 380hp and 440 torque. Was not under-rated. Was a different setup up, cam, and tune then the cobra. Different intake manifold as well.

If you're dumping a ton of money into either of these, the SRT-10 will go waaaay farther, stock the lightening already has a supercharger. You know how much power you can get from just a blower on a 8.3 v10 viper engine? It's unreal what size can do for you when sinking money into mods.
And look at how much space is under the hood of both. Barely any space in the sVT. And the viper at least a foot on both sides of the motor and the srt motor sits real low and this was done deliberately.

The SRT-10s aren't too much quicker than Lightnings. Besides, with those single cab 6-speed Ram SRT-10s, you've got to drive them perfectly to get a decent time out of them. They're heavy, the clutches are shit, and they can't put their power down to save their souls. The Lightnings, on the other hand, are easy to get off the line and get quick quarter mile times out of.

8.4 liter V10 vs 5.4 liter V8. The rams a cool truck but all that horsepower on that chassis is better designed for a Baja truck or something....and the price tag on the SRT 10 was a liiiiittle much because it's "viper" powered. Waste of money If your trying to buy a fast steer truck

Actually the 5.4 lightning is the closest thing to a gt engine only difference is internals and fuel system. Carrol shelby said that the 5.4dohc was the best engine ford ever built. The gt is still a 5.4 whether u want to admit it or not. If the lightning was a carbon fiber aluminum bodied truck and it would easily run 180+ mph. The gt is running a 50k dollar engine. The lightning had a 10-12k engine. But comparision shows that 5.4 vs 8.3 vs 6.0 vs 7.0 v8 and v10 and v12 engines the 5.4 dohc gt still kills them all. The koinsegg... engine is based of of the 4.6 dohc engine and its first engine was the 4.6 punched to a 4.7 4.8 and it was a 245mph car. The new shelby is running a 5.8l 4 cam engine and stock form brand 200mph car the first american car to do it. With a small engine.. we americans always think more cu in more power and speed the euros have been killing that theory for years. Fact

the funny part is they took the viper motor and put it in the truck so yea stock to stock it may win but here is the funny part, take that same viper motor and put it in a viper against the Lightning motor put into the GT and you get the gt winning heads up. The SRT truck personally I laugh at cause you have a much larger motor drawn from a muscle car that is in another class to beat a smaller motor. There is no choking back and tears for a Lightning owner, The lightning sold so much better and is a trend setter not a trend follower like the SRT truck was. Personally I still take the Lightning over the Ram any day because it is a better truck in general to play with.

Either the lightning wasnt stock or the guy couldnt drive the viper. 505 hp vs at most stock 380 isnt even in the same class. The viper was and still is the fastest production truck. Google it. The ford came with a supercharger. Dodge threw a 8.3 v10 n/a motor in the viper. Imagine if it was supercharged like the lightning. Both trucks are badass. Just thrown my 2 cents
