WHAT’S SO RADICAL ABOUT THE MAGBOX?
The MagBox is the first magnetic softbox. Magnets in the base of the MagBox mean it attaches in literally one second to the MagRing. Changing diffusers is quick, easy and silent too. Because magnets. There’s never been another collapsible softbox that’s this fast, easy or simple to operate.
The MagBox is the first softbox to feature 2 types of diffusers, including a MagMod exclusive: The FocusDiffuser. Brand new and a first-of-its-kind, the FocusDiffuser acts like a diffuser, lens and grid combined. It redirects light forward, increasing your effective output. It gives you the softness you’d expect from a 2-foot softbox plus the control and precision of a gridded beauty dish-without the loss of light you’d expect from a gridded softbox. Which means . . .

I have put off jumping into the MagMod product line feeling that with such a good idea there must be magic on the horizon. Here it is
I feel an uncontrolable need to purchase this system. I know I may as well get similar results with other diffusers, but I love smart practical designs like this one.

If there's a way to use softboxes I already own with the ring, you'd have achieved perfection. But I'd settle for 32in-40in softbox.

Looks like a great product, just a question though. What about the lack of internal baffle for diffusion. As most softboxes are double diffused, is the new front diffuser helping reduce Hotspot from the flashes?
Great question. The MagBox was designed particularly so that an inner baffle was not needed. The job of a baffle is to spread the light from the flash so that there is even spread across the front diffusion (no hotspot). The way our box is designed is so that the light from the flashes gets the nice even spread without the need of a baffle or bounce card. We tested the box many times with one and without just to make sure. If an inner baffle was going to make it better we would have added one. But fortunately our open design provided the best light without the need of anything extra that ultimately reduces the effective light output.

Only thing is the 24" size but I can see it was conceived that way for portability. Still Its a dream for portrait shooters on the go. Now I have to save up. Photography is expensive.

It's easy to setup but transporting it is a pain. For this reason we use the Westcott Octa Rapidbox than the Magbox when portability is needed.
I wish the Magbox was slimmer and could fit something like a Think Tank Prod Manager 40 or Logistics Manager 30 or even a backpack. Also a more subtle branding would be nice. Magmod screams expensive and is one of the things that often gets stolen...
If they did a bowens mount to a magring adapter... that would be huge
Looks pretty near perfect! I think the only that is missing is an interior reflector / baffle so as to better disperse/bounce the harsh, direct speed light all around the inside. The MAGFLECTOR?
Greg, The MagBox was designed from the ground up to deliver the most even light at the diffusion panel. We harnessed the directionality of speedlite flashes and designed a single diffuser to be evenly illuminated. The lack of an inner-diffusion baffle, or deflector plate, is actually by design!
sounds amazing! But the truth is that it is expensive, at least for me as a beginner photographer .. And it was fun to see a good price for all your products together. The professional package is missing a lot of things.

This looks like a good product adressing many issues we photographers are facing when it comes to work with portable lights on location. However, when I watch this video I am concerned about one thing: Won't all those strong magnets affect the mounted speedlight? Especially the zoom function of the speedlight? I saw my Nissin speedlights being affected by strong magnets in the past... no fun!
Thanks for the question. We have been creating magnetic modifiers for over 4 years now and haven't had any issues with magnets and Speedlights together. We even have some videos here on our RUclips channel showing us running huge quantities of magnets over the top of gear with no damage caused. Question: Why does the narrator say the focus diffuser can focus the light at 20 or 40 degrees? I would have assumed that it would only output at one angle. How do you adjust it?

Awesome product, but at a cost. Kind of expensive, and that's what I expect to pay for convenience.

It looks super useful but also looks to be made entirely from plastic. I can't imagine having this bumping around in my truck with all my metal light stands.

I'm looking to scale down the amount of gear I carry to my shoots, and I'd love to see if I can create light bright airy, AND moody shots with this one softbox. I'd love to see diner's perspective, and top down shots for light and dark scenarios, if possible.

Unfortunately not :( Raph Nogal has modified his MagRing to make it work but we caution you to do it at your own risk and the warranty may be voided.
@@MagnetMod OK, Thanks for the heads up! I tried it out and it can fit but its rather difficult to make it work. The cool part is all the gels and accessories still fit with out a problem. If the mount was a little bigger and shaped circular it would rock. I've used magmod products since 2014 even supported the magbeam kick starter in 2016. It Would be cool if got into Larger modifiers like 36in octas and strip boxes.

Not sure about the 24 inch size of the magbox. I guess with two AD200's it would also work very good in a 35-40 inch deep octa Magbox. So as i'm expecting to see these released also in the near future I will wait for the bigger box.

Hey Ciprian! Thanks or bringing this up! The MagBox does not need internal baffle, or diffusion :) This is because of it's depth. It is designed to maximize the angle of the light as it comes out of your flash so that it fills the face of the panel which is what determines the softness of the light.

Truly innovative! I see there is a version for the PCB Einstein, but will it work with PCB White Lightnings? The White Lightnings have long 250 Watt Modeling Lights that get hot.
There is an adapter ring for the PCBs including the White Lightnings.
Thanks for the reply! So with the PCB adapter ring, I can keep that "long" 250 watt modeling light screwed in to my White Lightnings? The modeling light gets pretty hot - will that still allow the gels?
Hi John, we will do some testing this week or next - soon as we can get our hands on a White Lightning. I would guess because it is so hot it would probably damage the gels but doesn't hurt to test it out.

Can you please make one that holds 3-4 speed lights? Also how are the flash being triggered? I didn’t see any triggers connected to the hot shoe of the flashes.
Hi George, the flashes all have built in receivers. No additional triggers are needed.

Hi George, no it does not come with any flashes. It works with the Yongnuo flashes. All flashes must have a MagGrip on them in order to work with the MagRing.

Do the speedlights only fit into the mount in a vertical position? Many speedlights do not perform HSS unless I’m its original “L” position.
Hi Erik, you could create the L position once there are positioned in the MagRing. I haven't heard though they need to be in the L position for HSS to work. I will certainly have to test that out.

What is the folded down length of the MagBox? Would be great if it could fit in carry on luggage.

MagMod MagMod great, good to know. Size is perfect. I just hope the materials, specifically the plastic frame, are durable enough against some bumps and drops. Would be disappointing if it breaks from a fall, knock, trip or gust of wind on a light stand. Even with sandbags on the stand, it happens lol. Light stand falling, drop test video next? 😉💡
A drop test would be fun. From my experience using it over the last couple months I have found it to be quite durable. Once we have more samples we can explore other options to demonstrate just how durable the new products are for photographers.
