This property was hit really bad by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and again by Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and suffered damages from unimaginable amounts of flooding.
The owners have since been involved with extensive clean up and repair work to get the building back into shape. They plan to reopen soon, but have yet to announce an official date.

I grew up skating there in the 70's & 80's. There were 2 old creepy ladies that ran it, they were nice but they looked like they were 80 when I was a kid. Went back in the 90's with my niece & they were still there and still looked 80! Crazy! They used to play "puppy love" at the end of the night, we used to drink chocolate soda (only place I ever saw it, like YooHoo)! When I went the skates were black (for boys) or white (for girls), all those brown skates are from the reopening. Excellent memories.

Riedel Boots, Chicago Plates & Trucks, NMB Bearings.....long ago. When a rink was suffering from water damage or a flood, we used to go in and vac up the water and put down a half sheet of plywood and place a 55 gallon drum ontop of the hump in the floor. Then we would fill it up with water for weight and turn a fan on the floor. The floor would dry out and the weight of the water-filled barrel would press the hill back down to where it was to be...........man, those were the days

I live in the town where this park is located. I remember this park operating all the way up through high school and just a bit beyond. Since it closed down from all the flooding of the creek that it sits along from the early 2000 hurricanes, they have locked it up pretty good and the police do monitor the area fairly well.

Loved that rink. my grandmother skated there and her sister, my momma as a teen my cousin as a teen then her boys and my other cousin as well in MA.. they also has some line dancing at first when it first opened. There was a farewell party at the rink for the owners, so many of the regulars, including us, attended. As I skated around the rink, I would stare at the clock, hoping the time would go very slow that night. When I walked out the door for the last time, I cried very hard, knowing it would be the very last time I'd ever see that place again as a skating rink. Thanks for sharing! I do hope they reopen it!

yes, this is the place, they bought some carnival canvas paintings from the guy and they were worth like 10 grand, so they went back and gave the guy who owns the place half since they only paid a few hundred for them. The owner seems like a real nice guy with too high expectations of ever bringing that place back from the dead.

Those skates remind me of the ones they rented to people at Skate Arena in Lakewood, NJ - was my family and I's second home for about 2 years straight - went there every Saturday and Sunday night skating with my family back in the day. It's now a Harley Davidson Showroom, sadly. We knew the owners of the rink - my mom worked at the snack bar on Saturday nights and we got in for free because of her being an employee. We had the whole rink to ourselves for about 10 minutes before they opened.

Seems to be a mixed bag of signs that it's too big of a project for most, yet some signs it's not all that abandoned yet. Do you guys know if it has taken on any signs of new life? Do you ever get into a place and think "wait a minute... this isn't really abandoned" and take off? Like you know, power tools, fresh sawdust, tire tracks and work done on something? I am somewhat of a worrier about those things but am grateful you guys go in and take the risk. For some reason I am fascinated with snooping into houses and buildings, amusement parks that have an obvious feel of loneliness and abandonment.

abbeykroeter Nothing yet I think its still closed. And yes, at the Ocean Manor Hotel, ruclips.net/video/JtqwBWn36V8/видео.html, the light was on and it really freaked me out. +TheUnknownCameraman I have done winter maintenance on some old buildings with steam heat. You just have to keep a boiler going and dumped every so often or they go to hell completely. I am not surprised to find power on in a hotel. I ended up staying in a local historical home one winter. My water froze at home so I went and camped in my employers property. It was three stories of spooky as hell, but warm, comfortable and free.

Exactly, desertdispatch! I myself enjoy exploring and documenting abandoned places, but only if they are truly abandoned. Bushkill Park is most assuredly not abandoned. I was there, and inside the rink this afternoon (by invitation of one of its principals, who is an acquaintance). The grass was freshly cut and all of the buildings were locked. A locked chain link fence surrounds the park. I was told that trespassers are a recurring problem, and when caught, are always prosecuted.

I used to work there. I spent allot of time in that rink. I worked allot of birthday parties and played the music Friday and Saturday nights. Almost all oldies of coarse! My grandfather Mel Heavener was the manager. Mabel "Mom" Long owned it. 2 older ladies also worked in there in the early 80's. Viola and violet. Viola was tall and very sweet. That good old days. My name is Jim heavener, this is my son's account. 🙂

it has now opened as of spring 2017. it has been refinished and they have birthday partys there from time to time. and line dancing as well or had line dancing. i use to go to the rink when on vacations to Easton PA. and my grandmother use to skate here as well with her sister and i think brother. but it's so good to see it back in use.. it's been a round a LONG LONG time. maybe one day we can get back to cke it out again. LOVED that rink in the spring to fall they'd open the french doors then and in the summer time the lightening bugs would flicker through. almost didn't need the disco mirror ball for spots. LOL> but anyhow that is the up date of Bushkill Park Skating Rink next to the creek. this has a lot of history to the rink.

The ski hill near my parents' house has the same rule, because it's a very family-oriented ski resort. Funny story--one of the ski runs was called "Flicker," but it was written in all uppercase letters, so "FLICKER" looked a lot like......a vey different word, since the L and the I were a bit too close together. My brother noticed this (loudly--he was six), and other people must have noticed as well, because that run has since been renamed.

The blue skates are for learning, they are less likely to hurt your ankles and the toe stops are bigger and easier to use

Could the beginning music riff be quieted a little? It has an annoying grab. I love these kind of vids.

It has since been on the newer videos. I apologize for the sound, editing on crappy laptop speakers here didn't realize.

Bushkill Park. I am on the cover of the last brochure that they put out sitting on a carousel horse. I'm on the inside as well but that isn't the point. I am also a competition artistic roller skater and coach and I actually did a demonstration in that rink in maybe 2002 or 2003. I also helped with the clean up effort there through the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) and possibly the Dark-ride And Fun-house Enthusiasts (DAFE). I spent hours in the skating rink and fun-house cleaning mud.

i love skating rinks, would love to see a couple hundred open up in th ecountry. great family fun, and for anybody that like to just blast around and do some ol tricks. Skating rinks are cool. I always wanted to open one up. I i played the lotto and won, it would be the first thing i did. Club, rink, restaurant,...

It's not abandoned. It has an owner. It's private property, well posted, with a locked fence around it. I wonder how the unknown cameraman would feel about someone breaking into his house to shoot video.

Considering the price of scrap iron lately, I'm surprised someone hasn't raided that place and striped all the copper as well as all the iron items that are laying around.

Just to see a comparison video of this place in it's 'hey day'...do a search of "Bushkill Park Roller Skating Rink" here on RUclips. You'll find a video taped in September 1989. Kind of neat to see the difference... Great video TUC...

The rink is open! its not abandoned lol. The hours are Friday and Saturday nights 8-11PM and Sundays 12-2PM. Most of the rest of the park and the rides should be open by July. Have fun .Its $5.00 admission , $ 2.00 skate rental
