Great discussion here, but I do want to clarify - Darren is half Filipino, and as of several years ago, made a public proclamation to not play queer roles anymore so as to not take them from queer actors. So he deserves more credit than he's getting here.

But he said that after he played queer roles that got him his break and after he won so many awards for playing the queer role. Those roles could have easily gone to a queer actor. It’s easy for him to say it after he got so much attention and awards for playing those roles.

He supports the Trevor project and Broadway Backwards. He founded Elsie Fest, which has often featured queer artists.

Instead of hypothesizing about what he means, ask him. Don't create a straw man and then criticize him.

Darren Criss is litterally taking actions around racism and lgbtq+ issues so what the hell are you talking about! You all have zero knowledge of what he does and actually said do you!
He is fully immersed in the queer culture and has been his whole life. He said that he felt connected to the queer culture but in NO WAY claimed queer experience and also said he felt absolutely no ownership towards it. He just felt grateful for the lgbtq+ community for all the things it brought to his life.
Saying he felt like he's been CULTURALLY queer his whole life is extremely different from being actually queer. So stop making a buzz about nothing.

I don’t think who puts what where is necessary then only part of queer culture.
He can feel that the queer culture feels more comfortable to how he lives his life than a straight culture.

It's a very odd thing to say.
