I pre-ordered the domu volume on Amazon Japan and should be in my hands by next week. Most of otomo's work other than Akira has been out of print in Italian or in any other language I can read for years so I jumped at the occasion of collecting this new series of reprints
Yeah, even here in Japanese his older releases are getting more and more expensive / hard to find. I'm looking forward to Nov. when his first release, A Gun Report, comes out! That's impossible to find!
Thanks for the review Shawn. The designs look very cool. I'll probably be only getting his older books. Hopefully the artbooks wil be reissued in the collection as well or at least we'll get his collaborations with Satoshi Kon (World Apartment Horror) and Takumi Nagayasu (Legend of Mother Sarah).
Yeah, I wish we had more info on the release schedule. All I could find is that pic from the Discord server. Even the official website only shows the releases for Jan. & Mar. I'm excited for 銃声 bc I've never read it. But that's not until Nov.
Me too! I wish there were more spreads like that though. Not like they don't have the budget. They just know suckers like me will buy regardless. Haha. Looking forward to what they do with future releases.

Thank you - very helpful and cool to see the insides of both books. Been very curious to see how the Storyboards were presented. It is scene for scene! I have the ANIMATION ARCHIVES book so probably will be content with that as it also has designs etc. Domu on the other hand looks great. Has a page or two in the beginning that was not in the US editions and the spot color. Now I see the color I wish the US edition was printed that way. Add a lot of impact to that scene. I sent you an email with a few pics .
Thanks for the comment and the pics! TBH, I wish they had more extra content, but they still are great to add to the collection. Particularly, I wish Domu had some behind-the-scenes sketches or info, but what can you do...
very nice. Both look almost just the same as the original printings. Paper looks nice and love the dust covers. Mine should be arriving next week......because apparently 3 copies of Domu isn't enough for me.....and I just managed to find the first vol of storyboards JUST before these were announced....which still didn't stop me buying the new one:)
Thankful I found your video and I appreciate your camera and lighting quality as it is something often overlooked that truly completes the experience of a flip-through video. I'm mesmerized by the general book design choice (softcover with transparent jacket cover, bold colour palette, overall minimalistic and clean layout contrasted with the detailed lineart to create visual balance)! Curious about the prize reveal once buyers collect all 41 volumes. I'm excited for Gun Report too!
Thanks Beeper for the comment! I'm mesmerized, yet confused about the book layout. I mean, there were infinite possibilities! But as a huge fan, I had to get them. (And Kodansha knows this. haha) I'm sure when I have all 41 volumes, I'll be saying how rad they are.

There's also no info here yet on an English release. There4 are going to be 41 titles in total released, so I imagine Viz or someone will pick up some of them, but unlikely all.
I'm debating whether I will get them all. As I mentioned in the vid, 41 volumes will be well over $1000 in total. But I'm also an obsessed collector. haha
Sorry, but I don't remember. I got it from somewhere, and it actually got flagged by RUclips. I thought it was creative commons. Usually, you can change the audio speed to get around that, but I liked it how it was and just used it. Thanks for the comment!
I know! 41 volumes will total over $1300 I'm guessing. I don't think I will get them all. But if you did have the whole set, it may go up in price in the future. Wait to see if there's an English release

Then my TSUTAYA guy said that all the stores are only getting a few copies of the AKIRA around here so I decided to reserve a copy.

Haha! I know the feeling. There are some volumes that I have and I know I'll still get in The Complete Works. We can't help ourselves!

I really expected more as far as new material, but I'm also just happy to get the re-releases. And the dust covers are great!
