      Servus Sebastian. Also.... I just got the Beyond a few days ago and I have to say I am a bit disappointed.... Hence, the glare is something I absolutely cannot deal with. I tried HL Alyx (which was the best by the way) and indeed MSFS2020 and DCS. Before the Beyond I had the Reverb G2, which has a nice solution but not the best lenses as well as small sweet spot. BUT, I was shocked about the glare which was even a bit more than I was used to in the G2. It surprised me, since the overall Beyond is an awesome VR headset.... anyway, I am sending the Beyond back and have already preordered the Crystal Ligh including the lighthouse front. ;)

      It’s a no brainier! If you have £1500+ in your back pocket (headset/lighthouses/controllers) you’d buy the big screen beyond. That is the ultimate form factor atm for vr. It would increase immersion but for £6-800, it’s the light hands down!!

      There is a prototype of 140/160/180 horizontal fov headset with hig res, hz, brightness and clear lenses. Bigscreen Beyond cost £1,149 so we can't compare that with Cristal Light, especially without local dimming. Bigscreen Beyond also has one massive downside in my opinion - no adjustable IPD. I know that before you order Bigscreen Beyond they will take the IPD measurement but I still prefer to have an option to adjust it manually if I feel that it is necessary, otherwise you will stuck with fixed IPD you can't even tune. It is too risky to buy a VR headset for £1,149 with fixed IPD. Also the lenses on BB are worst than on Cristal Light. The biggest benefit of BB are only super small size and OLED panels (but still with lower resolution than on Cristal Light). If the size of the headset is not your concern the Cristal Light with local dimming is unbeatable winner here, for me no-brainer. There is also another massive downside of BB - you probably will not be able to sell it if you decide to do it in the future. Why? Because BB comes with custom IPD and custom face cushion. So if you want to sell it on second hand market you will need to find the buyer with the same IPD and shape of the face like your. So trying to sell it BB headset will be pretty much pointless. Many users include myself when buying new VR headset want to sell the old one, but I will not be able to do it with BB. I don't know if decision of making custom IPD+face cushion was driven purely to minimise the weight of the headset or was a commercial decision so the users will be forced to buy only brand new headset from BB rather than second hand one. I appreciate that BB trying to sell it super light vr headset which in general is a brilliant idea, but for what cost? I think that they went one step too far. So people who are planning to buy BB should be aware that very likely they will not be able to get any money back in the future from that headset.

    • @flyhalf2
      @flyhalf2 6 месяцев назад +2

      The other elephant in the room is the cost of base stations and controllers. If you already a headset that uses base stations and compatible controllers surely you would sell these with your headset rather than just the headset alone because who would buy a headset and then have to buy lighthouses and controllers?

    • @SargonDragon

      You're missing the biggest benefit the Beyond has over the Crystal Light. It's not made by Pimax.
      Pimax is a weird company which produces powerful cutting edge VR headsets, but they never finish them. They habitually release them at 95% done and then rush off to work on the next future headset. So what customers get is a product full of bugs and unpolished, unfinished, or missing features. If you can get them working stably, their products are great. Until the next firmware update that breaks things again.
      I've been running Pimax headsets for years. And I wouldn't recommend them to most people unless you are dedicated and technically savvy enough to deal with their BS. If you can get them to work, they're amazing.
      I recently got a Bigscreen Beyond, and it was nothing like buying a Pimax headset. It was simple to setup and worked correctly right out of the box. No pain involved. This is a company that is building and focusing on _one_ VR headset, not half a dozen at once. And it shows.
      Regarding your concerns about IPD, Bigscreen will change out the headset for the correct IPD if its wrong. And once it's right, it's right. No further adjustments will be needed. My IPD was correct from the start. The company claims that this is the case 85% of the time, and the remainder normally get it on the second try. It's a hassle up front, but once you've got it set, you're good.
      As for price comparison, if you're comparing like for like, you need to include the Lighthouse faceplate and local dimming on the Crystal Light. And this brings them pretty close to the same price.
      I agree Crystal Light has better lenses though. The comparison between these two headsets is a mixed bag overall. But to me, it's really going to come down to how stable the Crystal Light is. Doesn't matter how well it compares if it doesn't work.

      @@SargonDragon I've never used Pimax headsets before and I've heard that their products may be a little bit upolished like you said, but the reason why so far I'm interested of buying the Cristal Light is because I believe that Pimax have learn something from their previous headsets and they will not make the same bugs again. In general as far as I know most if not all bugs has been fixed on current Pimax headsets and the Cristal Light will be only a strip down version of the more powerful headset, so I believe and hoping that there are much less chances that something can go wrong with the new product. I really look forward to see the first reviews of Cristal Light and what Sebastian things about this headset. So far for me Bigscreen Beyond is out of my reach with £1,149 price tag. It is a very tempting device and I'm pretty sure that in the future most of headsets will look like this but for know I prefer to spend much less money and wait year or two when device like Bigscreen Beyond will cost less. But to be honest I still think that except of small size and light weight the BB is not a winner here compared to Cristal Light (with LD). Cristal Light has just better screen resolution and way better lenses. Ok, it might require more fiddling but like you said if you get the settings right the reward is great. Like Sebastian said, apparently looks like a glossy magazine :-)

    • @SargonDragon
      @SargonDragon 6 месяцев назад +2

      That's a significant consideration. The Beyond only does 75Hz at native resolution. However, having recently got one I was surprised to find that at least for me their claim that 75Hz OLED feels like 90Hz LCD is true. The difference in smooth framerate between these two headsets isn't as wide as it appears on paper. But yes, the Crystal is still advantaged on this.

    • @investinjahcoin5029

      The beyond at 90hz feels just as responsive as the 120hz in the quest 3 or crystal for me. Oled has a 1000x faster pixel response time compared to lcd especially. So input lag is reduced significantly

    • @julianmazzola
      @julianmazzola 6 месяцев назад +2

    I tried a Beyond, as well as a Crystal, and sent both back. I suspect the Crystal had defective lenses, but having had bad experiences with Pimax previously, I just sent it back. The Beyond was a big disappointment, some of the ‘picture’ may be sharp, but how much of it? The glare was like a smudge of Vaseline around the edge, but not the very edge, it went a long way towards the centre, leaving only perhaps half of the picture clear! It was dark too, and there were other problems. Bigscreen were good as gold, but I couldn’t be bothered trying to ‘fix’ the headset as they are based in California, I’m in the UK. They might have been able to improve things somewhat, but to me the flaws were too bad. It’s a shame, but it’s my honest experience. I think the IPD was not the problem btw. While on the BSB discord I do see a lot being satisfied, a significant number of others have very similar thoughts to mine.

    There's really no comparison to the Crystal light. Except for the weight of the Beyond. If you wanted to update from the HP reverb G2. You'd be better off with the crystal light because people who have HP reverb G2 probably don't have base stations. And with the Crystal light you can do base stations or inside out so you have two options. I don't think beyond is the future because people getting tired of the base station systems.😊 Inside out tracking is better if they perfected. Plus with inside out tracking you can move around the house if you have wireless. Where is base stations you have to be in front of the base station or it's not going to work.

    I don't understand clickbait video titles like this from people who consider themelves professional reviewers. With this video title are outright telling people NOT to buy a Pimax Crystal Light (PCL), when what you really say in the video is "that the Bigscreen Beyond MAY or MIGHT be the right headset for your viewers"? The BSB costs double what the Pimax costs and it needs old-tech clunky base stations, whereas the PCL is inside out tracked. The entire point of the PCL will be getting great visuals for a cheap price and it will not be a direct competitor to the BSB.

    Any word yet on when you guys will get your hands on a final production version of the Somnium VR1? I just recently saw VR flight sim guy's through the lense comparison of a semi-recent version against the pimax crystal and am intrigued.
    I love the idea of the bigscreen beyond and appreciate a company attempting to achieve an ultralight headset. I think they were a little too overzealous in removing IPD (and perhaps eye relief) adjustment in pursuit of weight reduction. Potentially having to send back the headset multiple times just to get the IPD that works right for you doesn't sound very fun. Also I'm not interested in sharing a scan of my face. OLED sounds great but if they're behind lenses with blur and glare it kind of sours the overall experience. Hopefully they get enough business to survive and produce a second generation headset with a generic face mask, adjustability, more refined lenses, eye tracking and perhaps a larger FOV.
    The crystal light is definitely a smart move by Pimax but they should really offer eye tracking as an option. Driving that many pixels is not an easy task and fixed foveated rendering kind of negates the whole point of having decent edge to edge clarity. For DCS in particular, utilizing quad views dynamic foveated rendering can make a big difference in performance. I get why they kept it reserved for just the crystal for now. If they gave it to the crystal light there would be no reason to get a regular crystal outside of using it with the upcoming wireless adapter. But I still think that's going to hamstring the light a bit.

    1. Quest 3

    3. Pico 4
    Other than these 3 it's pointless to spend these kind of money, yes they are all wireless, yes they all have compression but wireless gameplay + ease of use by far more important than slight decrease in clarity....
