I did a fanedit of this movie that removes a few of the spritle & chim-chim scenes and streamlines the movie a bit, as well as gives it a sort of steely zack snyder color grade, and it made me realize OMG this movie is a masterpiece. I also theorize it's kind of autobiographical because the Wachowskis were being absolutely hounded by controlled efforts to screw them out of the industry, kind of like Speed was in the movie, but their biggest source of support was family, siblinghood, and a love of their craft.
The greentext joke was an extraordinarily deep cup, and I gotta say, I wheezed. I was wheezin the whole time. Damn this video made me hard bro, good looks
The callout of the initial D cgi took me out lmao Also, to me, the speed racer environment CGI and wardrobe almost... makes it perfect, in a way? Every single scene and set piece is so surreal that the cars feel like the most... REAL part of it, which I think works PERFECTLY, and keeps you from questioning anything. It feels like watching a high-res cartoon.
I remember watching this one on theaters back then and the only thing going through my brain were "who cranked the colors to 11?" and "woah, _[something]_ ". And I cant remember if "this sucks" or "this is awesome" came after "woah".

Well this feverdream of a trailer kept haunting me for like the past 17 years or so but i could not remember the name of the movie. So yeah know i know :) Second: just watched the movie and did speedracer just predate the goshdarn freebird joke by like what? 14 years?
This is one I put off till literally this year. It's got such an awesome story and the idea of the Rally is something that I absolutely adore. I've always loved Redline, and it's just got that feel to it. Great video my boi 👌👌👌👌

i’m so passionate about this movie it’s not even funny it was genuinely life changing for me. my dad introduced me to the original anime when i was a kid, so i already had a fondness for speed racer going in, but seeing the movie was a religious experience and since then i’ve been trying to convert everyone i know. it also led me to initial d which has done its own irreparable damage to me
Right when you said about f-zero it clicked with me, it should be an f-zero movie and not a speed racer movie, if it was then every surreal bit would start to make more sense because fz has the same aesthetics and you don't question those wacky japanese gaming designs, but speed racer itself is of course fun and wacky, but in my head ideal speed racer film supposed to be a mix between James Bond movies and death race 2000(but for kids)
I am convinced that George Miller made Mad Max Fury Road because he was inspired by Speed Racer especially the Desert Race. I mean prior to the Fury Road, he makes Happy Feet for god sakes. And looking at previous Mad Max kinda meh, but then he found the passion in Mad Max again after watching Speed Racer. But to differentiate things so he don't get accused for plagiarizing, he makes the movie to have more Metal vibes to it, rather than Psychedelic. That alone is describe how masterpiece Speed Racer is.
