I use a bandsaw all day sometimes for my metal sculptures and have found going slower you get three times the blade life before they break and also don't over tighten in between they break less....and never buy a saw that doesn't have a coolant pump!

Im operating band saw since 3 years.but we use water and SHL lubricant on blade. Without water blade teeths break after few cut. Our band saw is bigger size and cut big size steel pipes.

You never wear gloves when operating a bandsaw unless you want to loose part of your hand. The teeth only need to snag the glove ever so slightly and the saw will pull your hand in.

I wear disposable latex that fit tight when working with metal. Otherwise I get tiny slivers of metal in my skin.

Those aren't solely safety guards. They are for blade alignment and adjusted properly reduce/eliminate chatter.

You guys need to get a coolant system. I think blades last a lot longer if coolant is pouring over the work area.

Ellis Bandsaws are specifically "dry". No coolant needed.

Run the saw this way if you want to go broke! Glad this guy had his certificate! LOL

Folks are complaining about the absence of coolant. Lol. When you have a wide blade in a longer saw, the blade isn't engaged in the material enough to heat up as much, so the absence of coolant really isn't that big a deal. Besides, it's a fab shop, not a production shop. If they're doing production cutting big stacks of chromoly bar stock, then yeah, coolant is mandatory. But cutting tubing or random pieces of bar stock isn't a big deal.

    Where is the coolant?

You’d get a lot more life out of the blade if the wire wheel just behind the cut were spinning and cleaning the blade as it cuts. Really, ask “the instructor”.

Only person who needs to meet with the instructor is you. I can see why you already chewed up a blade in a week.

At 4:11 he put his fingers in the line of fire. Chance that the hydrolic feed give up are close to nothing this is an unsafe practice. Not trying to be an asshole here.. Safety above all. Great video by the way.

Is it normal to complain to a fellow employee about blade life and then just set down your bandsaw teeth on the workpiece?

It’s pretty obvious your inexperienced at running a band saw. Why are you instructing?

I love the fact Ellis is an American based company. But, dry steel cutting in a production world will NEVER work. You will going through blades on a daily basis.

I watched this because I do not know how to use a bandsaw. But hands in the line of fire, and wearing gloves, do not belong in an instructional video on how to use one.

Oh….yeah he’s wearing gloves to run a damn bandsaw. Give me a break.

I was pretty sure he's gonna get roasted after this "ask the instructor" presentation.
Dude, next time you show us the US flag, try a professional Bosch tool first!.
Ask your instructor if you don't believe me. :p
