  • Just a brief side by side looking at the Ellis 1600 and 1200 and looking at a few differences.
    Some other thoughts I had after I made the video:
    -Speed most likely has something to do the the TPI of the blade because the RPM is the same.
    -The Model 1500 has a slightly lower top speed and a 3/4 inch blade.
    -Having said all that, I would add that using the 1200 is a little more comfortable. The weight on the horizontal lift is a little more balanced and easier to lift up and down when doing lots of repeated cuts because it doesn’t weigh as much. I wish I good get my hands on a 1500 to compare because it seems like a good alternative as well. If most of what your doing is 2-1/2” tubing etc or less I would actually prefer the 1200 because it is such a joy to use. Especially if you are doing lots of vertical work. That extra 140lbs is pretty much all in the horizontal top end and you feel it when moving it up and down in the vertical position.
    -The 1” blade is thicker and much more ridged and will track better on larger material.

      You bet! I find it helpful too when you can see a side by side. I love the 1600. Sometimes I miss the 1200 a little when I’m doing lots of small cuts and having to turn the head a lot for mitre cuts because it is significantly lighter to lift. And the 5/8 blade is nicer for tighter radius cuts in the verticals position. But still, no complaints about keeping the 1600. They are incredible saws in a fairly compact size with awesome mobility. Which one did you decide on?

      @@purtnearperkins The 1600 due to me having a dewalt portable band saw in a table I bought from SWAG tools. I have more need in the horizontal position than the vertical, especially for my upcoming exhaust fabrication on my crawler. The only crappy part is the saws are back ordered but only until mid May which is ok. I'll get the saw I want and not have to deal with settling on a Chinese copy or sub par unit.
      Thank you again

      Super - thanks for the feedback. I’ve been using the 1600 since I posted this and it’s been a phenomenal saw. (They both are). For a shop I definitely go with the 1600. Take a look at the other video I did for a table I made for the saw in vertical position. It’s indispensable. All the best.

    I started to get an Ellis. But, not being a wet saw. That did it for me. I found a brand new still in the crate. Ramco wet saw. Designed and built in the USA. I love it. Built in 1979.

    Thank you- very interesting. Can you share how you loaded the 1200 into, I assume, the pick up and or the 1600 down to your shop floor?

      When I bought the 1200 we had 4 guys and we picked it up into my truck. I used a hoist to lower it when I got home. For the 1600, which is a lot heavier, I brought my utility trailer with a fold down gate. I was able to pull it on and off by myself. Although, having someone help would have made it a little less sketchy if you know what I mean.

      Do you band-strap them to a pallet then fork them in and out of the vehicle moving them???

    • @purtnearperkins
      @purtnearperkins  3 года назад

      @@barrythompson6387 that would work good. I only had to move it once so we just set it in the truck bed. The 1600 I just rolled up the ramp onto my trailer.

    This is great info! I’m picking up a 1600 soon !! Do you have any info on the Ellis feed table ?

      You’re welcome. Glad it helped somebody. I don’t have any first hand experience with their feed table. I made my own vertical table and I’ll be making some sort of feed table or rollers myself at some point. Such a great saw.
