G'day Darren. Now that I've had my first taste of a Hulklight in the form of a CSLMN1.F1 housed in a M1 host, I'm looking at getting my second but more powerful greenie. 💚🔦 In your opinion, is the larger surface, CSLPM1 emitter the reason that the L21B throws a fat and juicier beam, or it's oversized conical reflector? 🙂 Anyway, I've narrowed down to three of these: 1. Convoy M21H with TIR optics, green emitter model unspecified (3V, 8A driver. Wavelength: 520-530nm) 2. C8+ KP with CSLMN1.F1 (least expensive but bulky) 3. S21B with CSLPM1.F1 LED (middle ground) I know that you have a preference for compact FLs, but in your opinion does the S21B with the LPM emitter beat my existing M1 with the LMN1.F1 LED? Thanks in advance mate!
Hi mate, it's a combo of the PM1.F1 and larger reflector that produces more light and range. Think I measured 1.6kms at the time which is nuts. I would get the C8+ if you want more throw compared to the M1. You'll see a decent difference. The S21B won't beat the M1 with NM1.F1 - reflector is too small so I wouldn't bother.
@@DarrenYeoYT Thanks Darren. To recap things, basically the rule to remember is to choose the reflector size _first_ then only the emitter model, correct? That means a C8+ with the PM1.F1 will out-throw a similar C8+ with the smaller die, NM1.F1. If that's the case, I'm all for the C8+ since it's the least expensive model, all else being equal! ☺🔦❤ Edit: Vital question here: Are green LED FLs supposed to be throwers and not flooders? With conventional white light, both flooders and throwers have their place. Except for creative photography, I can't find any other good use for powerful monochromatic light flooders.
8A means more current to the LED = hotter host and potentially brighter. In terms of the PM1 version, I don't think it's worth getting the 8A as you only get a little extra light and a lot more heat.
Hey there, I've been switching between the Wurkkos FC12, Reylight Pineapple mini and the Nitecore P23i. Funny as I started out buying the convoy L8 and Imalent MR90. How about you?
@@DarrenYeoYT interesting, I've been eyeing up the wurkkos ts25. Especially if the wurkkos silicone diffuser fits on it 🤞 make it double as a lantern. Waiting for a sale I guess. Literally just bought the sofirn Lt1s $40aud as I haven't found any other compact red-light capable lantern with kinda smart UI (no 🕯 mode 😔) and reverse charging. At the moment I daily the tiny AAA olight i3e I got free, since my T4K keeps burning holes in my pockets THROUGH lockout mode 2 :)))))
@@cullateral some EDC lights freak me out to carry them around due to the switch location/annoying lock out more. Though they may have lockout, I prefer tail switch lights that have momentary mode. So I tend to carry around small tactical lights :D
Imagine CSLNM1 in L21B. That would be a pencil beam wouldn't it?, do you think such dense laser like beam lights are actually useful to see anything far in real life ?
@@DarrenYeoYT Sure, but even there, the white beam causes so much scatter in the air - would you be able to see anything at all at the end of that beam?
I find only half the rated distance is practically visible. Even though light is technically making the distance, it's still too dim or far for me to see it obviously. On camera with sensor exposure turned up, you can see it better.
Out in the country where there's no smog/pollution, the beam seems to travel forever. of course given good weather conditions. Ratings are normally taken with a lux meter and a certain distance away from the sensor, cant remember exactly... 10-20metres. But I do mine at 5m due to space constraints
The L21B is such an amazing product, I personally like it more than the L21A. It’s just the perfect size for the performance, it has a nice minimalist look, and the price is just incredible for what you get. I know the L21A is offered with higher lumen emitters like the XHP70.2 which it’s heatsinks would be useful for but if your going for one of the throwier emitters then the L21A is a bit excessive imo, it’s quite a bit larger and more expensive then it needs to be for the SFT40 and osram emitters.
L21A has better heat dissipation and it's maybe 100+ grams heavier than the L21B. For the PM1 and even SFT40, L21B should be sufficient! What would be cool is to see and SFT70 in there.
@@DarrenYeoYT you always make some good points and have great ideas, the SFT70 would be amazing to see come to the L21A and even the L21B but like you said the L21A being better at heat dissipation it would be the best host for it. Thinking about it now and I don’t think convoy offers the sft70 in any flashlights yet. I have recently been considering getting the thrunite catapult pro or catapult v6 just to see a really well implemented sft70/sst70. I have a pioneman u10 with the sst70 but it’s really poorly implemented imo, small dark spot at the center of the beam, greenish tint overall and purple tint around the outside of the spill but I think the purple looks kind of cool on the sst emitters but the other flaws are just bad.
@@lumntoob999 thanks mate, just thinking aloud :D I've seen the SFT70 in the Nitecore P23i and Olight Warrior 3. Really like that large hotspot, pure white light and extra lumens. I notice both of those are not running the emitter on 100% either due to heat. But it's cool to see it can work in smaller hosts. At the moment, I like the PM1/SFT70 the best, with the SFT40 somewhere in the middle. Osram seem to be the only company making these miniaturized LEDs with low surface area and relatively high lumens. Not a huge fan of the SST40/70. The tint and limited throw. But they are your best bang for buck I'd say out of many emitters out there.
