      YES! Not that I collect N64, but I feel like it's high time there's a community-driven print/variant database made available for people. If only the grading companies* could merge their knowledge and pitch in some money to keep a database running. I think it would benefit them in the end

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 месяца назад +2

      Likewise! Education pieces are absolutely necessary for this section of the hobby to continue to grow. As is, most people are terrified to enter due to risk of fakes/reseals/etc

      I was going to make a joke about Pat's book, but on no planet would his complete documentation of N64 reference sealed anything. I almost hope it does just to know the pain he went through cringing through that section, but I ain't gonna waste money finding out. 🤣🤣 If people have photos it could be as simple as throwing together those in a Google Drive with game names for folders.

    Working at Blockbuster during the N64, PS1 days, we did shrinkwrap our former rentals to resale them, so be on the lookout for those, but usually they are blatantly obvious.

    Been explaining this topic for years. Spot on with ocarina and majora. Vertical seam, vertical overlap and flatback small vents otherwise known as LRB. The most common fake is the LRB. It will usually have the bottom seal on the top side or have inconsistent seal pinches. They all have consistant pinched seal corners in the case of the zelda games regardless of which version. Once you know what they look like you can spot a fake easily. Sadly i have seen many mario and zelda reseals sold on ebay some in the region of 4k upwards over the years. By the time someone gets the failed return from grading, its way past the return window. 😢

    Do the grading companies ever make mistakes with this or is it basically guaranteed to be factory sealed if they say so?

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 месяца назад +1

      They *can* make mistakes, but like 99.99% if they authenticated it, it's going to be the real deal.
      Fakes have gotten through at times with all grading companies across all collectibles.

    Question.
    Have there been any records on factory sealed games, without wrapper, but had a plastic strap band across?
    A local dealer is selling Star Wars Racer for 360$ saying its original factory sealed. And the strap has bend the box.

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  2 месяца назад +1

      If it's a North American version of the game, no, you won't find anything considered "factory sealed" on N64 like that.

      I'm guessing it's a shrink-wrap, 3 side seal hey? You should be good on it, looks like that might be the only seal pattern it comes in and CGC has graded it with that seal pattern, too!

    Is there any way to tell for resealed ps4, GameCube, or ds? I feel like those are just impossible to tell at this point only worth buying graded ones already

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 месяца назад

      Well the grading companies themselves will regularly reject resealed or "questionable" games like GC & PS4 that use Y folds and nothing else. Usually it has to do with the type of adhesive pattern (or a lack of adhesive entirely, reseals are sometimes done with heat).
      I personally do think it's much harder to tell 100% positive with those types of seals and I avoid anything that looks sketchy at all (weird Y folds, loose seal, etc).

    Greg, love your videos! How can I tell which gba games weren't H-seam? I collect gba and have a decent number of sealed games, several of which aren't h-seam. I know it was done, if rarely, but is there a list anywhere besides my own research? I have been seeing more and more 3 sided seams on ebay and have to go through my whole collection to see if I can find any paint cracking (I had never been aware od this before i saw your video on it from 2 yrs ago). Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated.

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 месяца назад

      Hey!
      Your best bet would be to compare against eBay for GBA, yea. If it's a first party title (Nintendo published) it's usually always an H-seam.
      Just like N64 though, many many 3rd party games with use 3 side seals. I also did a lot of sealed GBA collecting and much of what I share in this video about N64 directly translates to GBA. A few rules with a lot of exceptions haha.

    Nice vid! I had gex 64 sealed on n64 and the seams were to the sides of the game but was authentic. As i opened it once to see and it was truly authentic. At that time , there was a seller on ebay selling them for 80$ cad a copy with shipping included.
    Nowadays this game is worth 1000$ a copy

      @@GetTheGreg the treasure trove I had consisted of a lot of sports and wrestling titles lol
      I can say pretty much without question that n64 wrestling titles have the lowest quality seal of any n64 game
      The only one I remember truly having a quality seam was wcw nwo revenge which had your standard V seam
      The next worst seams I saw were late quarterback clubs, nba showtime on nbc was pretty fucking atrocious
      Honestly I’m planning my adventures into the RUclipsverse. And my first project was going to be an alphabetical breakdown of why PS1 is superior to n64 in all ways
      And seal verification/uniformity just got added as a reason lol
