- Talat Noi is a 200 year old neighborhood in the Bangkok Chinatown area. It is packed with amazing street art, street food and lots of great little alleys to explore the streets. Today I get lost (as always) on my own little walking tour while searching for some amazing Talad Noi street art and food. We explore the street and find the So Heng Tai mansion, a great resaturant and the Rong Kuak Shrine. I come across a couple or suprise locations and find something near and dear to my heart. Watch till the end for the best street art scenes.

Bangkok expands its street arts more and more every year. And it spreads out all over Thailand, Phuket, Hua Hin, Rayong, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai etc.
Personally I totally loves this kind of street arts (aesthetic style and not graffiti). It really makes the city more beautiful and enrich the community culture (because at China Town, they painted each block telling the lore of the old community.)🥰🌈
This was definitely one of my favorite little areas. I’m gonna have to come back and just walk around and enjoy it without thinking about having to make a video.
The pink soup is called “yen ta fo (fo like number 4)”. The pink colour came from fermented bean curd, which is ruby red.

Hi Serg. That old trees, Its an ancient Thai tradition.
Before religions had been existed, they believed that spirits dwelled inside those trees , rivers and other natures. That time no machine , handed-weaving was the only way to make clothes using a lot of endurance and time. Thats why clothes were symbolized of “love”. So wrapping the trees with colorful clothes mean exchanging loves. They believed that the spirit would give luck and wishes back. Nowadays, I thought it was just prevention from cutting down trees. 😂😂

Thank you very much. Once I finished the video I realize there was another scene I had with two cats that I forgot. Not everything that’s really interesting makes it into every video. But in order to keep them entertaining, many things are left out.
Street Art is so awesome, and the area look old and clean , l can’t believe, no one made a mess or graffiti those art works. They kept area quite clean. I am having fun getting lost with you. The red noodle soup , I had it here in LA , name “ Yen Ta Four” loving the historic old Chinese Temple and mansion. This tour is fun.
I know exactly what you mean! I lived in the San Francisco Bay area for 40 years, and although it would be hard to imagine art like this surviving, I’ve seen the number of pieces of street art that went untouched for years. Thank you for the clarification on the noodles.

I've been to this Chinatown twice, it's a totally unique place in Thailand. Do check out the the backstreets opposite (or behind? Can't remember precisely) of Wat Mangkon station, it's a hidden gem. A big backstreets market, you will discover a lot of good foods (non touristy) there.
But do make sure you visit in the morning, stalls are usually closed around 3 in the afternoon.

We think very much alike. Two nights ago, my wife her friend and I explored the alleys off of Yarawat Rd. In Chinatown. Cobblestone streets, a multitude of ancient shops, stopping to eat at an obscure stall with chairs and tables set up on the street (I was the only farang in sight) - that, is how you discover a new culture. Carry on, sir!
Yep! You totally get it. This is the best way to discover stuff.
The red noodle is red because they put red fermented red tofu in the sauce.
You should seasoning it with the stuffs which they keep it on the table.
For the rice , don’t need to do anything , just eat it…
So I put all the seasoning in the wrong dish? That’s pretty funny. I have a lot to learn, but I love the process. Food was delicious.

The condiment on the table is normally for soup noodle.the condiment for pork over rice dish should be Nam Pla Prik (It was not brought to you however Nam Pla Prik could be in one of those 4 bowls of that condiment set)we do not up chillies in vinegar on it. I'm Suki restuarant provides only one dish -Yen Ta Fo- as a vegan food (Jay) .

Yes this is one of my favorite areas so far
while you were having food, I saw you have some seasoning on your rice dish. keep in mind when you eat rice dish. only put fish sauce with chili . When you eat noodle dish. only push vinegar with ground chili or slice big pepper.

Serg, reminds me so much of my childhood growing up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Colonial styled shop houses, bustling roads and quiet alley ways. Amazing murals too! Remarkably clean to my surprise.

Pink Soup is Yen Ta Fo. Made with fermented soya bean. Food poisoning happens but same time dehydration. I know cause I was very dehydrated.
I try to drink a lot of water every day, but I’m probably still not drinking enough.. Thank you for letting me know about the soup!
Very cool Serg. Like your commentary and viewpoints. BTW, I am in Bangkok right now as we speak and will go to Talat Noi to check it out for myself very soon when we head to Chinatown. Cooling towels also a must as you suggest because words cannot describe the humid conditions. You have to experience it, plan for it, and get used it. Believe it or not, it was even MORE hot and humid in Phnom Penh last week.
Yeah Leo, you’re absolutely right about the humidity. I’ve lived here for five weeks and it’s going to take me a little bit longer to get used to it. It’s funny you say that, sometimes when I watch my videos I feel the same way. However I’m worried that if I do a 25 or 30 minute long video people won’t watch it. I’ll try one and see what happens!

Yeah once a week is too infrequent. I’m shooting for every 2-3 days.
Im a native Thai, be careful when you walk, people ride motorbikes on sidewalks. Ppl get hit and badly injured. And when you cross the road, people drive bad and fast, better watch carefully. They dont stop at pedestrian crossings. Like your vdos. Going to be a big fan. Hope you enjoy living here.
I actually almost got hit the day I was making this video. I made the horrible mistake of looking the wrong way, since I’m from America and people drive on the right side of the road. I almost got hit by a motorbike. I appreciate your support Gavin!

Per my understanding for the Tree with colorful wraps. There are many reasons:
1) as you mentioned we believe that there is a lady spirit in there but mostly in Banana trees which we call Mae Ta Nee.
2) Asking for number(s) for the lottery. Could be by scratching the tree using baby powder and they will either use their imagination to see something appears as digit(s). If you see baby powder on logs or trees, that most likely for lottery.
3) If you see the wrapped tree with a small house with some traditional dolls, elephant, etc in there, it is most likely we believe either people death a lot or there is/are the guardian(s) at that location.
It could be more believes but these are top 3 reasons for the wrapped trees/logs. I hope you enjoy traveling in Thailand.

Thailand has an extremely wide variety of food. You can find everything from extremely affordable street food, to the finest dining establishments. I’m sure you’ll find all sorts of things here that you would enjoy.

That Street Art Artist is Alex Face or Mr.Pattcharapon Taeng-Ruen-well known for his Third eyes Rabbit painting. Many of his works spread out all this country.

Before my first Trip to Thailand I wasn’t interested in Thailand at all.
During this Trip and my second Trip in 2018 I learned from my (before Girl friend) wife a lot of the culture and the characters from Thailand. I never expected that’s fits so much to me.

Yeah the food in Thailand is a dream and am happy I can enjoy in a view years every day.

I think that’s wonderful that you have learned to appreciate the Thai culture and food. I understand that it can take some time for some of us from western countries to really enjoy and understand the culture here.
Almost every apartment building has a pool at some kind of a gym. I don’t know what kind of price range you have so it’s impossible for me to recommend. Also it depends what area you want to live in. I have a friend who is a condo sales agent, and we will be doing a video touring several different condos.
Those colourful tree wrappings were mainly used to apiece the spirits, the thais do believe powerful spirits lies within great trees like that especially the Bodhi.

(^_^) The restaurant is in fact called "Im" pronouncing as in "Important" (means full-eating) and "Suki" is pronounced as "Suk" (means Happy). I reckon they want to make it looked like an english name... but it is a Thai name... meaning "happily full" (from eating). (^_^) The pink soup and those spiritual trees are described well as many explainations here. BTW, I love the vibes of small "soi" you took including Chinese shrine..... The pink dish looks like a vegetarian yentafo noodles. Pink from fermented bean curd/ colouring

The red color in the noodle soup was from the fermented tofu. It is called Tao Hoo Yee.

The red soup is 'yong tao fu', a noodle dish originating from China, commonly eaten throughout Southeast Asia. In Thailand, this is another modified version of it.

Don’t wait until you have everything lined up perfectly. Start making videos now. I use one of the simplest ways to film an edit. Everything is shot and edited on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. It’s not a selfie stick per se, it’s a small handheld tripod. Just use whatever you’ve got and go for it!

That sauce is for noodle if you love sweet put sugar in your noodle if you like sour use the one that have a pepper and venegar. for rice we use only fish sauce
