  • Visit in Aeropark Budapest, on the 15th of March, 2022.
    This Kamov was invited to Aeropark as a special guest during the season opening event, this was the first time an airworthy Ka-26 landed in this museum.
    This helicopter was produced in 1978 in Kumertau (Russia) as the 17th airframe of the 63rd batch. She started her career as a agricultural helicopter, her main base was in Csákvár, in North Fejer county, Hungary. In 2005, this airframe was overhauled in Vinnicja (Ukraine), since then she continued her life with the same tasks before. She got her new paintwork during the last scheduled maintenance, for now, she is one the few remaining airworthy Ka-26 here, in Hungary.
    Kamov Ka-26 is a multi-purpose, light helicopter, invented by N.I. Kamov in the middle of the 1960s. First flight of this type was in August 18, 1965, she was mainly used for training flights, agricultural tasks, passenger transport, cargo transport, pipe inspection and also for traffic controll by the State Automobile Inspectorate (GAI). This type has two Vedeneyev M14-V-26 petrol powered, four stroke radial engines with 9 cyl. and 325 hp each. Due to the relatively low airspeed of the helicopter, to maintain the proper cylinder head and oil temperatures the engines were produced with an iron fan, which makes the unique siren sound, and it is often believed that Ka-26 is driven by gas turbines. Thanks to the co-axial main rotor system this type is extremely benign, the vast majority of pilots loves and loved it to fly.
    Agricultural versions had pressurized cockpit, where the pressure was made by that "nose" on the front of the canopy, which is called separator. This thing pumped outside air through a carbon filter into the pilots cabin providing clean air.

    A Kamov Ka-26-os egy többcélú, könnyű helikopter, N.I. Kamov által került kifejlesztésre az 1960-as évek közepén. Első repülése 1965.augusztus.18.-án történt, alapvetően mezőgazdasági, személy- és teherszállítási, vezeték-ellenőrzési feladatkörökre használták, de alkalmazta forgalomellenőrzésre az orosz közlekedésrendészet (GAI) is. A típus kettő Vegyenejev M14-V-26 benzinüzemű, négyütemű, 9 hengeres, egyenként 325 lóerő leadására képes csillagmotorral lett felszerelve. A helikopter viszonylag alacsony sebessége miatt, a megfelelő hengerfej- és olajhőmérsékletek fenntartásának érdekében a motorok öntöttvas ventillátorral készültek, ennek köszönhetik egyedi, "sikító" hangjukat, ami miatt gyakran hiszik, hogy a Ka-26-ost gáztubinák hajtják. A koaxiális elrendezés miatt ez a típus rendkívül jóindulatú, a pilóták döntő többsége szereti és szerette repülni.
    A mezőgazdasági változatok túlnyomásos kabinnal készültek, amit a helikopter elején található "nózival", az úgynevezett szeparátorral oldottak meg. A szeparátor a külső levegőt egy speciális szénszűrőn keresztül pumpálta a kabinba, ezzel biztosítva tiszta levegőt a pilótának.

    Прекрасный подбор советской авиатехники. Ту-134, Ту-154, Як-40, Ми-2 - то, что успел рассмотреть на видео. Ещё промелькнул DC-3 или может это Ли-2.. Ну и конечно великолепный Ка-26! Мне нравится, в каком прекрасном состоянии представлены все лётные экземпляры! Спасибо!

    Such a cool helo... And can land or takeoff in any direction -- I.E. No Tail Rotor so not affected by wind direction!!! & NO Tail Rotor to FAIL!!!

    I'm assuming there is no rpm governor, but does it have a correlator to pair the throttle to the collective, or is it all manual throttle control?

    • @TomiAviation
      @TomiAviation  2 года назад +1

      You are right sir, no governor is installed on this type. Idle RPM (approx. 50%) is controlled by two separate throttle lever between the seats, while both engines flight idle (approx. 80%) is controlled via a twist grip, installed on the collective. Throttle control rods are mechanically connected to the collective lever, RPM adjustments is made simultaneously with collective blade angle corrections during flight. In the mean time, pilot can manually adjust both RPMs by the twist grip, if it is necessary.

      @@TomiAviation Very interesting! And if I can ask one more question, how does the clutch system work? I tried to follow along in your videos, but I couldn't make sense of the procedure. Does each engine have its own clutch? Do you engage them simultaneously or one at a time?

    • @TomiAviation
      @TomiAviation  2 года назад +1

      @@Funeral_Potatoes Clutch system is a hydromechanical device, consisting two separate part for each engines. Clutch handles are located on the forward part of the upper switchboard. (the two brown thing) Basically three modes (or position) existing, OFF, friciton and ON. Engines have to be started in OFF position to avoid sudden acceleration of the transmission system. You may see in the videos, that the blades are turning on startup, this is because the oil is cold and "thick" in the clutches. As the engines are stabilized in idle, the clutch levers can be moved forward to friction position simultaneously or one by one, depends on how the pilot wants. In the friction mode the blades will start to rotate faster or slower, this indicates the tightness of the clutches. (Tight clutch can cause engine choking, so it have to be handled carefully.) In the mean time, RPM of the engines and the rotors are monitored on the dual tachometers and when the RPM matches the levers can be moved full forward position, or I could say into ON. From here, the engine and rotor RPMs are stuck together, the only time they separates is when the pilot twists down the throttle and the engines decelerates faster than the rotor system. Check the following: ruclips.net/video/N6XJuVIKeOQ/видео.html

      @@TomiAviation Thank you so much for the detailed information! The Ka-26 has been my favorite helicopter for a long time, and its systems have been a fascinating mystery for me. It is awesome to find out how it works from someone who flies it. I'm a flight instructor in Robinson helicopters, but I would love to fly a Kamov if I ever get a chance!
