I am 100% honest when I say I haven't watched this, but I already know #1 will probably be Saving Private Ryan.
Unfortunately yes...
My dad used to play basketball with Ed Burns
We get it, you hate it.
Andrew Reegs such a great movie ☺️
yip you're right
Full metal jacket is not even an honorable mention? Wtf
platoon at 10.. that list is crap
True. This is the real list:
10. Black Hawk Down
9. Letters from Iwo Jima
8. Platoon
7. Das Boot
6. Patton
5. Full Metal Jacket
4. Paths of Glory
3. All Quiet on the Western Front
2. Bridge in the River Kwai/ Saving Private Ryan
1. Apocalypse Now
0. Schindler's List
Vickers Account in his list saving private ryan is -1
beavis81 I don't even know watchmojos mentally challenged
I mean they mentioned it with the other Kubrick movie so it's not like they forgot it. Unbelievable omission
I am kinda surprised Come and See isn’t on this list. It’s a truly brutal, gritty, realistic depiction of war. A definite must see.
Why are you surprised? This list is total garbage 😂😂😂😂. Surprised
Paths of glory is a masterpiece that needs far more views...Stanley Kubrick was an undisputed genius. Everything he touched turned into gold. The thing that made him so special was that while watching his movies for the first time, they may seem to be tedious at some points, but while watching them for the second time, so many details emerge...
When will people stop pretending that Hurt Locker is a good movie?
Ablequerq it's certainly not bad
I think it's a decent movie, but I thought it was a joke when it won Best Picture. It's one of the least deserving Oscar best picture wins ever in my opinion.
Opinions friend. Opinions
Ablequerq what's not good about it?
Been able to appreciate a film like that..Or taking the time to diss it is obviously an IQ thing ...Even if it's not to someones taste or the subject is something someone has no interest ect ect... It is one of those films that makes a masterpiece out of it's subject cos everyone in front and behind the camera are story tellers making a quality film....
Where the fuck is " FULL METAL JACKET " !!!!
Sarah Smith That's not exactly a "war" movie.
You're right... the second half just takes place smack dab in the middle of vietnam ;) . I thought it was better than platoon.
It is but not to the extend Saving Private Ryan, It is more symbolic than having fucking Rambo mow down the whole NVA with an unlimited ammo M60
whatss full metal jacket
Sarah Smith that movie was only good for its boot camp scene
Apocalypse Now is to me by far the greatest war movie ever. Saving Private Ryan was great but it didn’t get into my head like Apocalypse Now did.
Should I watch Apocalypse Now again I only liked the first half of the movie then the second half was just confusing and not even related to Vietnam war at all
@@rikuhautala606 Yes you should and try not to focus on just the physical war. Try to get into the characters heads. The movie is really about the mental horrors of war.
Well apocalypse now while it is in vietnam, is not exactly a war movie. Yes the war and the fighting is there, but it is not that the focus. It is a completely different beast and i think it had no place in this list. You cannot compare Ryan with Aporcalypse Now. They are both great films but they are not the same genre.
Saving private Ryan is great but it doesn’t hold a candle to apocalypse now
I think both are great. Saving Private Ryan is a better WAR movie but apocalypse now is clearly a better film
Missing from the list: Longest day, we were soldiers. Tora Tora Tora just to name a few
Hacksaw Ridge
Hamburger hill, war horse, saving private Ryan I think haven’t finished the video yet
19eastwood oh wait nvm for saving private Ryan
Longest Day is awesome. Also missing Gettysburg
mike Grey true
See Watchmojo, these are the kind of videos we like to see. Not that weird "Top 10 Milfs in Anime" bullshit.
SOOOOO TRUUUUU

Eroa to be honest top 10 milfs in anime doesn't sound that bad...
It was pretty bad
IKR
You said it has to be a war movie where there is combat and yet you snuck movies like Bridge On The River Kwai and The Great Escape which had close to 0 combat on the list and yet threw Letters from Iwo Jima and Black Hawk Down as a honorable? Plus you mentioned Full Metal Jacket and that's it? Plus where's We Were Soldiers? At least if you want to talk about war movie, use something that's believable. You din't put Inglorious Bastards in because it's fictional and you think The Great Escape is true? You think the Japanese treated the British POWs well in Siam (Present-day Thailand)? No! How daft can you guys be!?!
The great escape was based on a true event.
The Great Escape used the idea of a real escape plan that was used by American, British and Canadian POW and they were 6-8 of them who thought of digging a tunnel through the toilet but they got caught and was all later shot. The Great Escape was an alternate scenario of the escape so why is it even on the list, I don't know.
Agreed. We were men left me shaking and an ex-soldier visited me and we watched it together and he said it was very harrowing.
Lots of good films missing. The Last Samurai was again very moving, especially the last battle scene, it left me unable to talk for around 20 minutes after the first viewing.
Likewise, Bridge and Escape included, yet Lawrence of Arabia was shown as a film that didn't qualify, because of the lack of battle scenes? It is has many battle scenes, certainly more than the two PoW films...
How about Tora Tora Tora! The Cruel Sea, Enemy Below? There are dozens of worthy films out there. I agree with most of the selections, but I disagree with some.
There were also no flyer films, of which there are many excellent ones. Southern Belle, Battle of Britain, Blue Max...
Peter Thooft The escape but not as flamboyant as the movie said it to be with flying Harley Davidson and such ridiculously low wall that a pig could even leap across it.
Speed Reaper You are quite correct as I pointed out No Americans even escaped in the Great Escape only the tunnel and the names of a few of the higher ups and some of the methods they used for diging the tunnels where correct the rest was filled in for entertainment purposes as seeing a bunch of people walking across Germany wouldn't make for much of a movie
Black Hawk Down was something else.
"It's about the men, who stand next to us."
Yes
Was it a good movie? Worth watching? I couldn't get into the hurt locker. Just not interesting to me.
@@silavia7 Oh yes, it is a Good movie. Might seem to be lengthy but I guess almost all the war movies are and yes, Hurt Locker just tried too much but wasn't it for me too. Tell me how you like Black Hawk Down after you've watched it.☺️✌️
@@visharadrawat977 yes, I will. Thanks
To this day I have a hard time watching that movie. Men died because of a Wag the Dog effort from a POTUS with an intern.
Dunkirk and 1917 are very unique war films, and I know they aren't a movie but band of brothers are always top notch
1917 would be here, but this vid came out before that movie
1917 was just incredible!
Dunkirk was dreadful, any other movie genre other than a War film and it would of been a masterpiece but Nolan should stick to Blockbusters War films should be gritty to the core not visually striking and big budget minded,1917 on the other hand was very good.
Yep they both uniquely sucked. And Band Of Brothers is just Combat 2.0
Yeah 1917 came out after this video was made. But I'm sure it would be up there in the best
As a combat vet, I reject the notion that "The Hurt Locker" is a top 10 war movie. It's so full of unrealistic crap that it's barely a war movie at all.
band of brothers, although not a movie, should be at the top
We we're soldiers should be on this list too
you sound 5
Agree the movie is full of trash. It looks more like some teenagers who tried making documentary with their handicam.
Of course they gave it oscar to fuel up feminist propaganda.
@@anonymous2964 True
Now there is that masterpiece of 1917. And also brilliant Hacksaw ridge
OK CAMPIONE 1917 is probably the best movie I've ever seen
OK CAMPIONE 1917 ok I studied ww1 for years and can say it is accurate except for the British wearing the gas mask on his back it’s made for you’re chest his hand should have been infected without alcohol and that cut and the way the German troops run with out pulling the bolt and the fact they run while shooting is made up 🙂 but that’s the most accurate war film made by a person making a fake movie of ww1 and don’t forget the end where he runs and troops behind him die is fake since they are clearly just falling and playing dead no limbs come off and no one has a bullet anywhere in the body
Hacksaw ridge is unrealistic goreporn
Whatever, saving private ryan will stay always the best.
@@faroukmhd5886 Apocalypse Now is 100 times better. No contest.
We Were Soldiers is a ground breaking film based on historical fact. I put it right up there with Private Ryan. You also missed Greyhound. How did you miss Enemy at the Gates!
Agree..Enemy at the Gate was outstanding. One of my favorites if not #1 for me...we don't see many depicting the horrors the Russians went thru!
No one likes a movie made by Mel Gibson. They’re all haters.
Exactly, missing Enemy at The Gates is a travesty!
Exactly I will rank we were soldiers and saving private Ryan on the same level.
Greyhound wasn't out 6 years ago.....
Das Boot - one of my all-time favourite movies. You cam feel the stink and filth emanating from the crew.
99% shear boredom and !% absolute terror.
I hate how she pronounces the movie "das boat"
@@Magnus_Inno Could be worse. Heard some pronouncing it like boot (the shoe).
@@jackphillips1061 lol
13 Hours, Black Hawk Down, and Lone Survivor, Enemy at the Gates, We Were Soldiers all deserve to be on this list
I just watched "Enemy at the Gates" yesterday on NetFlix! An excellent movie!
No full metal jacket
too brutal for watch-fairies
Ross Williams that isn't exactly a war movie
james howe there was fighting towards the end, and the climax was with the brutal execution of the female sniper
yeah I wondering why it wasn't on the top 10
hacksaw ridge
What about “We Were Soldiers” the 2002 movie about the 1965 battle of la Drang, Vietnam.
That final battle was really good
Apparently, no one has seen "we were soldiers" a true story based on General Moore, during Vietnam. to me, that is the best movie about that period because its true and very well done.
100%
I agree a great film, probably Mel Gibson’s best work
@@iainduncan3409 I agree 100% if apocalypse now wasn't a thing
It's very good
Yes we were soldiers was a great movie and in my opinion better than saving private Ryan..
WAIT WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! HOW IS BLACK HAWK DOWN a freaken honorable mention.............. wtf
so much better than hurt locker
thats y favorite movie breh
Because it's not actually that good. Not compared to the actual top pick.
I know right
SuperDan 1989 right?! should've at least been number 10
I watched Saving private Ryan yesterday for the first time. What an amazing movie! One of the best films I`ve ever seen. Adam Goldberg and Giovanni Ribisi played the most memorable and interesting characters in this film, in my opinion.
good for you, i bet you want to see more war movies but spr is the best war movie so...
if you get a chance see it in a theater, the sense of noise on d-day is earth shaking.
Cheetah1979 there's a reason actual WW2 vets had trouble watching this movie
GravesRWFiA - Yeah, SPR is the only movie I've watched six times in the movie theater in my life. Most movies I'll see once, maybe twice (very rarely), in the theater, but not SPR. It was so incredible in the theater I had to keep seeing it there.
i bet they was wondering where the rest of europe was and why all americans not even a mention of any one else in the world i think apart from edith pinif sorry if spelt wrong french singer of the time
All on this list are terrific war movies, no question. My own honorable mentions: The Longest Day (1962), Sink The Bismarck (1960) and Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970). Of these, I'm really surprised that Tora didn't make WatchMojo's list since it's considered one of the best depictions of the Pearl Harbor attack. It was actually made by three directors - Richard Fleischer handling the American sequences and two Japanese directors doing those parts of the film.
I‘m surprised „We Were Soldiers“ didn’t make this list. Yes, there was a lot of American pathos, but it was quite an epic movie.
or The Patriot
"We Were Soldiers" is a solid movie and one of Gibson's best in my not so humble opinion.
I think that the book was the real deal.
That's a joke movie for kids.
guessed saving private Ryan from the beginning of the video
Yosef Waisman I guessed American sniper
that one isnt that bad either
I think everyone did, but I was surprised that Enemies at the gates wasn't on the list.
Engel because it claimed to be a true story but was riddled with inaccuracies
Joe Beanie with that logic Saving Private Ryan shouldn't be on the list, that didn't even happen..
The honorable mentions deserve a list themselves: Iwo Jima and The Thin Red Line are gorgeous films. And Glory may be the most moving.
Saving Private Ryan is by far the best
My dads friend fought for Australia and he has a lot of head trauma. Waking up in the middle of the night to sounds of guns and explosions even though there's no guns or explosions
I do like saving private Ryan and I count it as a horror movie because of how scary and realistic it is
I always knew watchmojo’s picks were always damn iffy, I especially saw this when they put platoon as the 10th spot😭. Definitely a top 5 if not top 3.
Enemy at the Gates will always be one of my personal favourites.
Hill yeah 👍👏
yeah that movie is kinda underrated, its one of my fav ww2 movies
YOU have the comment i was looking for haha
Father of a Soldier! watch it that movie
Ooh that's a fantastic film I wasn't thinking of.
So 'The Longest Day' did not even get a Honorable Mention???!!!
Yep, it should be #1.
Does not look fun to watch in that color but im sure its good.
@@jumpstreet2425 You'd be very surprised. Excellent movie, especially for its time.
Right, Saving Private Ryan is a pathetic copycat...
@@shaharyuval3120 not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but that statement is very false
You really nailed this list! Thank you.
Just watched Fury the whole way through last night! Great movie worthy of mentioning. Definitely drops you into a realistic theater of war and has historic accuracies!!
I hope Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk will be worthy of being on this list!!
agreed
Yeah!
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN HAS 2 BROTHERS !!
Looks good. That teaser was one of the greatest movie trailers ive ever seen.
Let's just hope Harry Styles isn't in it that much... Just kidding, since he won't be singing we might as well check out his acting.
Zulu, Hamburger Hill, 633 Squadron, Downfall, We Were Soldiers, The Longest Day, Battle of Britain, The Dam Busters, Tora! Tora! Tora! , Gallipoli, Braveheart, Born on The Fourth of July, Empire of the Sun, Valkyrie, Iron Cross, Last of the Mohicans, The Last Samurai, Fury, The Book Thief, Master and Commander, Unbroken, Enigma, Tears of the Sun, Stalingrad...
The Patriot
Battle of the Bulge
Watchmojo clearly has a left wing and 21st century bias.
The longest Day was great, but still kinda cliche for its time. Tora! x3 should have been at least honorable mention. Fury and Unbroken would make the cut in 20 years after they've had a chance to marinate with audiences.
David Murphy Braveheart is donkey piss. Cross of Iron, Last of the Mohicans and We Were Soldiers at least need an honourable mention. Zulu, Downfall and Master & Commander need to be top 10
I've watched Das Boot at least 100 times and every time it feels like it's the first time. For everyone who likes War movies this is a must watch
Make sure you are watching the Director's cut of Das Boot, it is really worth it.
@@WildeFyre69 I've watched it like a houndred times minimum since I was around 10. Always extended edition
Missing are; Battleground, Destination Tokyo, and 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, all of which were superb !!!
Sorry, Black Hawk Down deserved to be on the list, not The Hurt Locker.
Tina Burton no actually black hawk down is actually pretty good, and more realistic
No, Blackhawk Down was OK but left out a lot of information. But I agree that The Hurt Locker shouldn't be on the list. Maybe Hamburger Hill or When We Were Soldiers should have took its place.
Tim Burton wasn't black
Amos Tan black hawk down was trash.
What? I won't argue against Black Hawk Down, even though it wouldn't be on my top 10, but The Hurt Locker can't be argued. It is top notch in every aspect.
Full Metal Jacket?
Ikr
Full Metal Jacket should replace Saving Private Ryan imo
alchemist
@@HannaStimmel Definitely not but it should still be here
@@ottovonbismarck1375 i agree
The 1966 Soviet production of "War and Peace." Best war movie, best battle scenes, and one of greatest films ever made.
Gallipoli is an Aussie movie about the ANZACS (Australia, New Zealand Army Corps) & their real landing in Gallipoli. Not being an American movie wouldn't help, they need to make movies where Americans are the heroes, saving the world single handily while bullying allies into illegally invading & bombing any country they want & not for the reasons the US gives.
I think that you did a pretty good job with this list, but "The Hurt Locker" doesn't belong. I am an Iraq veteran. The idea that an EOD team would do anything other than EOD is foolish. They are an extremely valuable asset and are very well protected. They do not make their own missions, engage as a sniper team or (the best) pull on wires attached to explosives. The idea that war is a grand horror show and that there is a great deal of moral ambiguity on the battlefield is much better documented in other places. The complete lack of reality in that movie really took me out of it.
And no, I have nothing against women directing any movies. Kathryn Bigelow appeared to do a great job in "Zero Dark Thirty" and "K-19," but as I am neither CIA or navy, I will not comment on their accuracy. Her movie "Near Dark" may be one of the absolute best horror movies ever made, and that is another genre not known as being dominated by women.
By the way, Donald Pleasence from "The Great Escape," was an actual WW II British POW.
Have to agree though I've not had military experience ( my dad was both a Marine and a GI so he told me plenty of war stories he told me not to join up cause Vietnam was just Bullshit) somehow it didn't strike me a legitimate war film there was a similar film made back in the 50s name escapes me but it was pretty similar it dealt with men chosen to diffuse bombs after WW 2 PS I salute you for your service
The only reason "The Hurt Locker" got nominated and even won was because it was directed by a woman. It was the era of the "Me Too" movement It was a politically motivated choice.
I am not a veteran but three of my best friends are and all three served early in the Iraq War as well as Afghanistan later. We caught it in theaters and while watching I knew immediately how unrealistic it was as my buddies starting cracking up. When he grabs that barret I was like wait what? lmao. You just a sniper all of a sudden? The tugging on the wires to pull the explosives out of the ground was hilarious as well, that being said I love that movie. Its very entertaining and I do think it touched on some good psychological effects of being in situations like that. Obviously its much easier for someone like me to be entertained by it as I wasn't actually there but I totally get why actual veterans would not be able to sit through it. Thank you for your service!
@@newsguy5241 Hurt Locker came out in 2008. Way before the “Me Too” movement.
where the fuck is Full Metal Jacket. My grandfather is a retired marine who went to vietnam an he says its one of the best movies that is close to actually how it was in real life in vietnam
ThatRCKid I literally bought this last weekend as I've heard it's great. I'll make sure to watch it ASAP...
My late grandfather who was a medic on Utah beach, said "Saving Private Ryan" was the most realistic movie to depict what had happened during the Normandy invasion
Longest Day had more American and British stars, but that movie was more Code than real.
It' my understanding that during it's viewing by the test audiences that some combat veterans had to leave during the landing scene. Apparently it was so realistic that these guys were having flashbacks of when they were there.
Ive heard several seals and green berets say that black hawk down is the most realistic they've seen
F yo dusty limp grandfather hood that nigga died
Ok
Paths of Glory is SUCH a masterpiece
"12 O'clock High"..... A bit slow in parts, but a message that I took to be, if not anti-war, at least not pro-war. And one of Gregory Peck's best performances. And in glorious black and white.
Can't count the number of times I have watched this movie.
Why Watch Mojo likes so much The Hurt Locker ? The film is mediocre.
No it's an amazing film that deserved all the Oscars that it won.
+Alex Meyer still not a worthy contender for the list there are 5 or 6 better ones
Alex Meyer I'm Sorry, but I disagree, Inglorious Bastards in 2009 deserved more the Oscars than The Hurt Locker, Up from Pixar even being an animated movie was better than The Hurt Locker, in my opinion, of course. But I don't think really the hurt locker is one of the 10 best war movies ever made, Full Metal Jacket, Patton.. are batter.
Andre D'Arisbo We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Kosta Jovanovic Indeed there are 5 or 6 better ones. It's on #6 lol
we were soldiers
enemy at the gates
downfall
???
o yea and Fury?!?
american sniper?
act of valor?
enemy at the gates? Wasn;t that the film about the snipers in stalingrad? If it was i thought it failed badly since for the most part you lost nay sense that this was one of the bloodiest battles in human history. it just seemed to settle down to sniping. The best part was ed Haris managed to make a german not seem like the bad guy so much as the opponent.
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Wow I can’t believe Glory was an Honorable Mention easily one of the greatest and underrated war movies ever
Hardly underrated but yeah
I saw "Saving Private Ryan" in the movie's. Once was enough for me...it really showed the ultimate horror of combat, and being a foot soldier.
Made this 2 weeks before Hacksaw Ridge :/ That was a great movie
Saving Private Ryan's opening scene gives me the chills, it honestly scared me the first time I watched it
Crazy too think that the only reason they managed to storm the beach was through the sheer volume of soldiers that were sacrificed
I had just gotten an expensive new surround sound audio-video setup and the first movie I played on it was "Saving Private Ryan", I was unable to see it in the theatre so I bought it as soon as the DVD was released.
I was not prepared to be not only overwhelmed by the opening act, but brought to tears not only by what I saw, but also the sound of war was nearly overwhelming.
I have never seen anything like it since. An excellent movie with a cast of high-power talent.
I saw this in a theater with a great sound system. The opening scene was so realistic that I could feel the bullets going by my head. There were a few vets in the theater that actually cried or had to leave because the sound was so real to them.

The Great Escape?? Didn't the narrator say that combat had to feature on the movie??
True. Similar for Bridge on the River Kwai.

The plane crash landed with a mechanical issue, but Donald Pleasance's character was shot after they crashed.
How could you not have The Longest Day and Twelve O'Clock High on this list?
I agree the list should have included We Were Soldiers, Twelve O'Clock High, Tora Tora Tora, and Zulu as others have mentioned, especially Zulu and We Were Soldiers. I would also add In Harm's Way as another.
The fact that "Come and See" isn't even mentioned on this list goes to show how US-Centric these picks are.

Not enough foreign films. Also, Deer Hunter was limited in war sequences but a haunting masterpiece.
Boris Godzinevski Come And See, one of the best movies ever
They added Bridge On The River Kwai and The Great Escape, both lacking war sequences almost entirely so their rule is BS!
"Haunting" is exactly the word for that movie.

I realize Band of Brothers is a mini-series but, to me, it is the best war film to date.

The Hurt Locker 🙌🏽 and (although not a movie) Band of Brothers are my favorite..
I agree with several other comments about omissions. But I'd also include The Big Red 1 . . . Memphis Belle . . . and the original Midway.
With you on The Big Red 1
You missed a a lot. The Dirty Dozen, Where Eagles Dare, To Hell and Back, Sands of Iwo Jima, Kelly's Heroes, Force 10 from Navarone, The Longest Day.... This could have easily been a top 20.
bengalblitz i agree
bengalblitz force ten is great
bengalblitz: Nope. By today's standards, all of the movies you picked are completely out dated. Not even worthy of Honorable Mention. Yes, I enjoyed your picks as a boy, but we all have to go up some time.
By today's standards, you could classify them as classics but you cannot omit them. To omit something because the technology was not available back then is ludicrous and short-sighted.
The Dirty Dozen won 4 awards including an Oscar and was nominated for 8; Sands of Iwo Jima was nominated for 4 Oscars, The Longest Day won 2 Oscars. Another 6 wins & 6 nominations. The rest were a star-studded class of exceptional actors.
While we are at it, I'll throw in an argument for A Bridge to Far which won 3 BAFTA Film Awards. Another 4 wins & 4 nominations. Also Full Metal Jacket (Nominated for 1 Oscar. Another 7 wins & 9 nominations). How bout Midway, Tora, Tora, Tora, Battle of the Bulge...I could do this all day. Gonna hit the Netflix tonight for sure...
If they can add All's Quite and Paths of Glory even a Bridge Too Far which bombed at the box office these movies are outdated!
Movies like lone survivor and black hawk down should be include in list
Black halk down is sick
Hell yes.
Lone survivor is amazing
I am surprised The Longest Day didn't make at least honorable mention. It does tell of the D-Day invasion with an all star cast, the twist about the movie was that each of the segment, British, French, German and U S were filmed by directors from each of those countries.

Bc they go to "top best army movies" and read off someone elses shit they have no opinions idk why ppl r subbed to this shit youtube
BHD has flaws, mostly revolving around the storytelling getting clunky at times, many overly patriotic moments and one liners that end up being cheesy...its a fun film, i enjoy it, don't get me wrong, but it is not as good a film as many of the others on the list.
Flags of our Fathers, Stalingrad, Enemy at the Gates, The Longest Day?
Spectans1 Full Metal Jacket?
King Turbo Was mentioned in the video I think.
Spectans1 agreed, enemy at the gates is definitely top 5
"Enemy at the Gates" piece of shit! This film has fully demonstrated the degree of ignorance of the Western public about the war in the east. This film is a complete collection of Western myths about the war. It has everything, "human wave", "one rifle for three", "terrible NKVD agents" and absolute ignorance about personalities. For example: Khrushchev was a member of the military council, it's like the Commissar at the front commander. He did not have the power to dismiss the front commander.By the way, none of the commanders of the fronts around Stalingrad did not commit suicide. They were all alive until the end of war. Soviet soldiers had enough rifles, because only one factory in Izhevsk, produced 14 thousand rifles PER DAY, and still have plants in Tula, Kovrov and others. The most idiotic scene was about how the haracter of Joseph Fiennes wrote a denunciation of the girl, in which he accuses her of being Jewish (!) I wonder what would be done to him Lev Mehlis chief of all the commissars and a Jewish? State anti-Semitism in the USSR fiction Western propagandists.
Александр Соколов Interesting view. Nonetheless, its a very entertaining movie about horrors of war itself. Historical accuracy is not a priority for me, at least not in this case. If I wanted to know about the specific conflict, I would surely look deeper into it, probably read some well accepted article or a book.
A couple of oldies, both staring James Cagney, were "What Price Glory" and "The Fighting 69th"... both excellent
"In Harm's Way", "The Longest Day", and "Patton" are the best of the WW II Era.
I know Band of Brothers was a mini series, but it's the greatest war piece I've ever seen.
Yeah, and if you watch all episodes at once you could consider it a movie ;)
also the Pacific was pretty good too, done by the same people.
My top 5 would be..
1. Apocalypse Now
2. Paths of Glory
3. Come and See
4. Saving Private Ryan
5. FullMetal Jacket
VB MUTT I feel like saving private Ryan will be #1
VB MUTT It is on the List No.1
***** true its great but not the best...Even Come and See is miles ahead of SPR..
How is Stalingrad not on watchmojos list :O
Paths of Glory > Come and See > Apocalypse Now tbh
And Private Ryan is kind of overrated
Full metal jacket and apocalypse now are my favorite war movies
I agree with most of your choices. You may have wanted to add, "Tora, Tora, Tora," which is historically accurate.
No mention of "The Longest Day" that's an unacceptable omission. It was an astonishing movie that starred virtually every actor.
Agreed
I think Saving Private Ryan may indeed be the best in my opinion, but great mention - The Longest Day was absolutely phenomenal.
Cant believe everyone seems to be forgetting the Thin Red Line my all time favourite and work of art !
At least it made the honorable mentions.
Seamus Doherty get rid of the and
Hamburger Hill always makes it into my Top Ten of all time.
I lost quite a bit of faith in this list when I saw The Hurt Locker as the thumbnail. There are so many more accurate movies that should've took it's place.
Great escape has no battle at all. TMO you cant compare Hurt Locker to Black Hawk Down or Full Metal Jacket. Also where are Longest Day, Dunkirk, Stalingrad, Cross of Iron, Big Red One, Zulu, Sahara. Tora-Tora-Tora, Midway? Most of them are all time classics
Great list. I can't believe the Longest Day or Tora-Tora-Tora wasn't on there. I might also add Battle of the Bulge
@@christopherbodnar424 Battle of the Bulge was such a bad movie that Eisenhower came out of retirement to denounce it. Tora^3 and Longest Day absolutely should have been on the list.
War isn’t always about battle dickhead
@@JM.18053 They state in the video that they are only considering movies that are about battle; given that I agree with Stamatis that The Great Escape doesn't belong on this list, I also agree that there are some movies on this list that are not in any way great movies
I loved cross of iron and tora tora tora
Saving Private Ryan better be 2nd or 1st. I swear to Christ almighty I will fucking smite WatchMojo...
You done did me right, WatchMojo...Damn fine!
it is
I thought the same exact thing with that movie, lol. I was however, a bit disappointed that Letters from Iwo Jima "merely" got an honorable mention. I thought that was more than well deserved for a spot on the top 10.
cptmiche I agree, Letters From Iwo Jima is one of my favorite "A different perspective of a war" films ever
Hunzaterapter I completely agree... I could watch that over and over again and never grow tired of it
I feel that “We Were Soldiers” should have been somewhere on the list. At least an Honorable Mention.
I was getting so spectacle that they were going to include saving Private Ryan and then when they set it as number one my heart to get huge happy jump
Scott Larsen I knew it would be number one, but it shouldn't be, Come And See is better
10. Letters from Iwo Jima
9. Hurt Locker
8. Bridge on River Kwai
7. Platoon
6. Das Boot
5. Black Hawk Down
4. Great Escape
3. Full Metal Jacket
2. Apocalypse Now
1. Saving Private Ryan
Honorable mentions: Born on the Fourth of July, Hamburger Hill, Good Morning Vietnam, Zulu, Hacksaw Ridge, Thin Red Line
Movies I havent seen: Deer Hunter, Bridge too far,
Peacock Venom platoon is not military its vietnam
Peacock Venom you forgot american sniper
Where’s Fury
Tears of the sun
Born on 4th july is top 10
1. Apocalypse Now
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Full Metal Jacket
4. The Bridge on the River Kwai
5. The Great Escape
6. The Hurt Locker
7. Dunkirk
8. Platoon
9. Black Hawk Down
10. Hacksaw Ridge
This genre is so popular, visceral, inspirational, uplifted and sometimes abused over the past few decades... there are too many for a top ten... hem your list in a bit.
With so many great war movies out there, there should be lists broken down by specific war.
A few off the top of my head that I love but aren't here: Gallipoli, Fury and The Dirty Dozen.
Enemy at the Gates, The Longest Day, Tora Tora Tora, Letters from Iwo Jima, Dunkirk, Full Metal Jacket and We Were Soldiers are all great movies too
Enemy At The Gates is pure trash, other movies are good tho
Dirty dozen
Flags of our Fathers should be up there
Dunkirk?????? Not really
Hooded m8 remember this video is from 2016 so dunkirk wasn’t there , anyways it’s a great movie and I agree with your suggestion list
The thin red line??? This movie is so underrated...a way lot better than many movies on this list
Didn't it have a long drawn out weird anti-climactic ending?
Thin red line is my favourite war movie! Also the deer hunter should be mentioned
@@patrickniggli9686 watch Saving Private Ryan
A masterpiece
Apocalypse now is not only the greatest war movie of all time but also one of the greatest MOVIES in world cinema
Unknown soldier (Finland) It is about Finland's continuation war to try to regain the areas lost in the winter war. Two of my uncles took part in the war.
the great escape reminds me of hogans heroes :D
i think i have seen das boot
zactly. 10 to 1 has it that Hogan's Heros was based directly on this movie. It was the funniest war comedy TV series EVAH!!
Not even honorable mention for we were soldiers...
Ummmm!!! Yeah, that was a good one.
True
It might be part of the anti Mel Gibson phenomenon.
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839 Hacksaw Ridge was pretty well received. And, to be honest, We Were Soldiers in no way comes close to Top 10 when comparing it with the 15 or so films mentioned in this video.
we were soldiers is favorite vietnam movie
Im happy two of my fav ware films have been mentioned. Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down. Thought i would find Enemy at the Gates.
We Were Soldiers and Big Red One and Tora, Tora, Tora are movies that need to be on this list.
I'll never forgive the Oscars for not giving Saving Private Ryan the award Best Picture. Not only is that the greatest war movie, it is one of the greatest movies ever made.
Amazing ain't it. SPR was a movie that almost everybody knew was gonna be remembered as the greatest war film ever made and that was the reaction many people had just from watching it once. It was just that brilliantly made. And yet, Shakespeare in Love was forgotten almost immediately. In the history of the Oscars I can't think of a bigger WTF moment than when SIL won best picture over SPR.
Customarily, the selection committee for Best picture award for the Oscar have always favors drama over action movies. SPR wasn't the first nor will be the last victim of that practice.
for a over patriotic american maybe but not for an objective international audiance. the opening was amazing but the absolutly illogical warherostory it became afterwards made the movie go from a 10 to an 8 or 7. There are many warmovies better than that weird american herostory at the end.
Didn't like it too hokey . Where do I start ?
Think it went from a 10 to a 3 . Silly plot , illogical action etc. etc. It is a big joke in our family as are many spillbug movies . Too hollywood
10. Glory
9. Waterloo
8. Gettysburg
7. All Quiet on the Western Front
6. Come and See
5. Das Boot
4. Downfall
3. Platoon
2. Full Metal jacket
1. Saving Private Ryan
ah a man of culture
Good idea to include Waterloo.
Thank you for mentioning All Quiet
Fury
My #1 pick "The Pacific" mini series. Based on Real Facts and followed the Real Facts as best they could. My Dad was a Marine on Guadalcanal Solomon Islands 1943 to 1944.
many movies will come. but private ryan will. be always my favorite
