Putting one of these big beauties together at the moment. Was helpful to hear your commentary and see you results. Alot of work here. Nice build. Cheers
The extra props are from the orginal 1977 Monogram release. It only supplied the Curtis cuffed electric props. These were first issued to only the 509th composite group. Some years later the kit was issued with the more common Hamilton Standard props.
Nice job! So on the “Enola Gay” and “Boxcar” versions. All the gun turrets were not used, except for the rear tail guns. It saved weight and drag on the real B-29. These were replaced by those semi flat plastic discs plates. And if I remember correctly the Nuclear bombs either “Fat man” for “Boxcar”and “Little Man” for Enola Gay. Either bomb went in the front bomb bay and the large gas tanks assembly’s went into the back bomb bay, instead of bombs for added flight range.
My Uncle, T/SGT BUD JUSTICE, a professional painter before joining the Army Air Corps, painted several B-29 nose arts on Tinian. He was a tail gunner on his plane. He had 2x50cal and 1x20mm,and he said because the Japanese fighters were so frail that by the time his 50cals were through with one, the 20mm didn't have anything to do.
Actually, Bocks Car dropped the bomb named "Fat Boy", which was NOT an "A-Bomb", but a Plutonium device. It was rounder because it used an implosion, or fusion, not fission, like the earlier Uranium bomb.
I built one back in the 80s. My father kept it and I look at it still with pieces missing like the rear wings , a cowling and propellers and the canopy and now I want to fix it up.
Possibly in-store only. They don't always have it. It comes and goes. Sometimes Ebay will have it. There is a newer version out with PE parts from Eduard I believe.
@@PlasticModelBuilder and lots of dry fitting and making it fit just right. I never had to bother with the mating services of fuselage halves. There's filler putty and files for making the seam disappear under the paint. Can't wait to try that. I have many other models to build for practice.
@@PlasticModelBuilder oh kool thank you so much for your speedy reply! Much appreciated! I'm grateful to say that my family surprised me with this model yesterday. The Superfortress is one of my favorite bombers of all time. And so my Family chipped in on ebay and bought it for me. It was quite the surprise! Luckily I have 2 of the colors you mentioned so I'm pretty happy! Thanks again
The cockpit windows should have small triangles on the corners of the front row. Can easily be added. Otherwise this is some serious vintage model. There will never be another, not by HK, not by Tamiya, not by anyone except RC pro's.
@@PlasticModelBuilder Yes it was Monogram. But from 1977 I think, I had it when it came out, with the diorama booklets and short story of the bomb (Oppy)
Man, nice try! But you would do well to take more care with putty and sanding. Also, buy or make a scribe line knife -- even an Xacto will do the trick with care. This model kit is not cheap any longer. I have built three Monogram 1:48 B29s over the years. Admittedly my first one at 14 (model kit was $18!) was not spectacular but the last one was as perfect as anyone might do with a less-then-perfect kit. If only Airfix or Tamiya built one! I would buy it in a heartbeat!
I wasnt to worried about the minor details on that. That does remind me that I need to get the pile of dust off this bird. It sits in my kitchen 8 ft above everything.
@@PlasticModelBuilder I've never seen the Enola Gay in person as I've only seen pictures of it on the internet. I have seen the Commemorative Air Force's B-29 FiFi and it was something I'll never forget.
That's a real beast, well done, thanks for showing us!...Bill
Thanks for watching Bill.

They did need that range for sure. Good info

Sounds like those guns were vicious.
I'm building one now, thank you for the videos, they have been very helpful
I'm glad they help you out. This is a big plane!
I hot glued chunks of old stick on wheel weights to the underside of the flight deck so I didn't have to use the support post.
That sounds like a great idea!
Looks awesome, Ari! Super-huge! P.S. “Bock’s Car” was the name of the B-29 that dropped the second A bomb. I like your markings!
Definitely a fun one to assemble!

I like the b29 painting in the background
Thanks. Its an edited picture that i found.
Awesome job, I can't wait to see your next build.
Thank you! Enjoy the videos.
I built one back in the 80s. My father kept it and I look at it still with pieces missing like the rear wings , a cowling and propellers and the canopy and now I want to fix it up.
Might be easier to buy a new one and build it.
@@PlasticModelBuilder I thought about it but I realized hmm damn that's alot of work😅
the one I saw at Hobby Lobby has the same box art but the box doesnt look this big, cant find scale in the box description any where
It its probably the same one. The plane is big, but does fit in the box
@@PlasticModelBuilder went today and picked it up, looks like the same kit, now just have to find a place to display this monster
On top of the kitchen cabinets. That's where i have mine. Along with the B-1B, B-17G, and B-25J. Plus a huge millenium falcon.
@@PlasticModelBuilder Cant find this model on the hobby lobby webstore, would it be instore only ?

I’m about to start on one of these for my daughter. Appreciate the info!
Thanks for watching. Good luck with the build. Its a big plane! The directions can be confusing. There is A LOT of chromate green too.
Boxcar is the Nagasaki B-29
Bockscar
How much harder is the skill level 5? I have not opened the box yet.
It isn't really that hard. There are fit issues. Lots of masking. A big area is needed to paint and of course display it.

Hobby store or Ebay.
Very good work! What exact brand & colors did you use by chance?
Testors enamels aluminum
Model Masters chromate green and blue angel blue I believe.
