Aimee Mann ('Til Tuesday & solo artist), Michael Penn (solo artist, music producer & husband), Bill Hader, Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney, Portlandia TV show), Jason Sudeikis, J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Taran Killam.
Thanks, that was helpful.
Thanks for that
I kind of thought that was Amy
Heck of a band. Steve Jones incredible
Ahhh. Aimee Mann and Michael Penn (one of Sean’s brothers). I thought it was ira Kaplan and his wife from Yo La Tengo.
Only recognised Steve but vaguely remembered Carrie.
What a goodbye for Armisen! Legend!
And Bill and Jason to
@@auunnfkristjansson6738 This sketch in particular, however, was for Fred.
🥺❤️
we use the word legend too inflationary on the internet nowadays -.-
This has Mick Jones’s spirit in it.
That looked like it was going to be a joke, but it turned out to be sincere and very, very nice.
I mean there was also a joke
It was a bit of a joke.
This was on the last show that Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis were on. It was like their farewell performance. In the same episode, Stefon and Seth got married. :)
other than the snl actors, no idea who any these people are, nothing in description,
but i am guessing they are very famous by the reaction from the crowed
@@kiddalingur Carrie Brownstein, Steve Jones, Aimee Mann, J. mascis, Kim Gordon, Michael Penn.
I think this was Fred and Bill’s last show. I could be wrong. I’m pretty sure I watched this live when it happened because they said they were leaving. It’s just like so pure. “I’ve had a lovely night with you.” Those guys are such originals
Yep, and it was also Jason Sudeikis's last show. One of the most heartfelt send-offs in recent SNL history.
you’re absolutely right and i knew it was when they performed this cause i feel like it was the only reason it made it to air
@@relientkenny dickhead
Hi, I´m not familiar with the current cast, do you know who took over after them?
It was their last show.what a way to go out AWESOME 👍.
The best fucking era of "modern" SNL. The best fucking cast. They ALL were brilliant with much more complex talent than a comedy show requires.
Lorne Michaels once told Norm McDonald SNL was supposed to be a variety show, not a comedy show.
But Fred Armisen is definitely the best musical talent they have had in SNL.
language
exactly
What about the best era and cast that aren’t fucking?
I agree especially the cast of season 37
BEST PART: They are actually playing. You know Fred is a music virtuoso that plays everything but it's a nice surprise to see the other guys standing their ground. VERY NICE!!!!
Swooning to see Hader on bass.
@@tigeechan2040 In the SNL History of Punk Hader is faking it but here he appears to be actually playing.
Virtuoso is a bit much here
haha Hader is the man but I see no indication that he is actually playing that bass. just strumming one string and keeping his left hand locked basically. some of them were probably plugged in and some not. anyway a fun sketch with lots of musical and comedy talent up there.
@@saltyninja I disagree...except the part about strumming one string..of course he is..its a simple punk song not rocket appliances. Watch it again. Hader comes in on time at the beginning and makes the neccessary changes every time he is on screen.
Is that Thatcher's secretary on the drums?
oh yeah you're right! lol
i think he didn't have any job after her retirement..
Nigel Smythe-Pennington..
No, it’s Ted Lasso!
No, it’s Jason Sudekis.
This was less a skit, and 1000000% more Fred’s dream ‘sign off’ from SNL.
So pure! And smooth, even while skit and the band starts as more of a joke/comedy skit!
Ya gotta love the, "unguarded, couldn't help myself" smile Carrie flashes at Fred at the 1:50 mark. In the realm of soul mates of comedy, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein are tops of the charts with Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara.
I love that he looked both ways and smiles. Like he had Carrie and Steve Jones guarding him and he was a huge fan of both the Pistols and SK before he even met her. What a sent off, what an accomplish guy. That feeling must be incredible. And well fucking deserve. He's one of a kind.
One of my most heartfelt wishes is to go out with Carrie a few times and hope we have some chemistry, but of course we are from very different worlds in more ways than one.
OMG what a lineup. I love how Carrie dances when she plays guitar, quite characteristic of her.
Hey Margaret Thatcher you're alright!
Thanks to you i sleep at night
She works every day of the week...INCLUDING SATURDAYS!!!
You keep England safe
You’re a very SPECIAL LADY
Sweet iron lady.
Fred: "who'll take the solo?"
All the guitarists look at J. Mascis
To be fair if theyd all tried to play it then he’d have been by far the loudest
His solo fit the song really well. Great tone, style, and not too harsh for a sentimental number.
Love the crass profile pic.
Jason Sudeikis is genuinely one of the best type of person to be friends with, he genuinely cares and appears to be the most emotional whenever someone leaves. Even after he is sending heartfelt messages to everyone like Bill, Kristen, Armisen whenever they do another project/be part of a movie/tv show.
I see what you're saying, his ex-partner, Olivia Wilde, _is_ a callous bitch
Yeah he is. He broke down crying when he found out his wife was cheating
@@ronjames4151 thats also a huge part of why ted lasso can feel so personal and affecting, he was probably working through some shit writing that first season
I really, really, really wish that Ian Rubbish and the Bizzaros would actually have an album!
Test Pattern, Final Transmission.
@Sgoc Llewsgoc Sex Pistols
@Sgoc Llewsgoc Ian Rubbish --> Johnny Rotten
@@JP-ve7or he did a sketch about ian rubbish loving margret thatcher (a bigoted conservative who hated punks) and being an idiot as a parody of how much johnny rotten sucks (aka john lydon also from PIL). The crazy thing is nobody from Sex Pistols (Rotten/Lydon's original band), alive or dead (understatement) is on good terms with John Lydon including one of his former bandmember's Steve Jones who appears in this sketch as well as the original about margret thatcher.
But Armisen is a huge punker and what's really beautiful about this is he loves britpunk and he basically got to retire from SNL living probably a childhood dream on multiple levels including actually being somehow british. Hell of an imagination and beautiful mind on Armisen.
Ted Lasso has one in one of the NBC shorts.
Armison is truly gifted. Funny as hell and a fine musician.
This is one of my fav snl music moments. It’s also cool knowing this was Fred’s last show and Bill and Jason just decided to bounce too. Like what a perfect send off tbh.
I have the weirdest feeling like that drummer wouldn’t be a half-bad Football coach.
I can see him as a judge in Maine as well, weird
@@kennyrama Bud did he eat the po-tay-tah chip?
Maybe good at baking some cookies too?
@@idkjustchangingmyname7343 you mean biscuits???
ummm. They still got relegated, but hey, they won at Everton for the first time since 1960.
This legit made me tear up, brilliant sendoff to 3 of the best cast members ever
Every time Armesin and Hader do musical shit it just works to the point I’m like “can I buy the record”?
Test Pattern - Final Transmission
One of the greatest farewells in the history of TV
Love how Hader has to hide his smile of absolute delight towards the end.
If Kim Gordon plays tambourine for you, you must be so freakin' special.
She wouldn't be much use on anything else...
@@mactire1288 I mean she can't sing or play bass, but it wouldn't be sonic youth without her EDIT - Idk what i was on back then i love her bass playing
I wish I was special...
That's Iggy Pop.
@NOPE I'm assuming that's sarcasm. If you haven't already done so, check out her bass playing on Bull in the Heather by Sonic Youth.
I love that everyone is basically playing the same dull riff, except J killing it with full Dinosaur shredding from 2:32 on
He came in doing what he does best. I was expecting Steve Jones to do some solos, but apparently Chris Thomas isn’t around to do those solo overdubs for him. 😂😂 jk jk
I’m not sure if the audience understood the punk / indie rock greatness assembled on the stage, let alone Ian Rubbish!
Agree Steve Jones!!! But I love Jason on the drums ❤
I'm sure they all had a lot of friends and family in the audience, so they probably knew. But I don't think most people at home watching knew or appreciated what that were seeing. This was definitely aimed at a very specific audience.
The only one I recognized without a clue was Carrie Brownstein (who I still have a big crush on) but now having read the roster, agreed, they are indeed rock nobility.
@@alexjbennett1017 Steve Jones (heavy set bloke) is from Sex Pistols. J. Mascis (long gray hair) is from Dinosaur JR. Both highly regarded in their genres.
@@joecitizen5185 Thank you! I didn't know their names, but these are both bands I definitely "highly regard" as you say.
Going through a rough patch right now and this song really hit me and lifted my spirits
I hope things are better. Hang in there.
Watched it the first time, it was like "this is not serious is it?" Now that knowing it was his last show, I almost teared up. Cause Fred Armisen is my favourite person on SNL. Kirsten Wiig is the funniest, Bill Hader is just way too hilarious when he breaks character. Andy is funny but pretty stuck on his own way and his own humour.
freshsourmilk will forte?

I totally agree. Kristen was by far my favorite bill Fred and Jason would 2,3and ,4. Best era of snl
The letters on his strap mean “Thank You, Lorne Michaels. I love you.” :,,(
I love how J Mascis has the loudest guitar there 😂
As it should be 🖖
That was so freaking cool. The fact that they're actually playing. I know they are musicians as well as comedy sketch actors/writers, and that was thoroughly enjoyable.
2:56 Jason crying 💙
Thanks! I would have missed it without you.
Fred, Bill, & Jason's last show 😭😭
nooooooooooo
That kills me.
Ooof noticing that hit me like a freight train
I sometimes underestimate how much creative talent each and every member of SNL possess. Skits like these showcase their musical talent very well and it's impressive.
Something about Sudeikis crying in the background, man. One of the all time great pieces.
This truly warmed my heart when I first watched it.That J. Mascis solo made this even more special
Fred’s guitar strap “TY LM I❤️U”
Thank you, Lorne Michaels.
Amazing. 😭
i just realized his his guitar strap says “Thank you, Lorne Michaels. I love you.”
Fred, you were a gift to SNL. Truly the best of a stellar cast.
Love how this isn’t just how Fred dips out. It’s also Jason and Bill’s last segment. Low key at the time and it hit all the right notes

Nah, theres still many who are missing like Eddie Vedder and Johnny Marr off the top of my head. Imagine Johnny Marr playing.... and taking J Mascis solo.
Ian rubbish might be a parody but you can tell he's a big fan of the spirit of 77

@@zapkvr 76 or 77
I remember hearing this once. The class of '77 was Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Graham Parker, and Nick Lowe. All great songwriters.
@@zapkvr They formed in the second half of 1975 and played their first gig that November, but 1976 was when they were really rolling with a small following starting to grow and lots of gigs being played. They disbanded in early 1978.

Totally. Unexpected. My heart skipped.
Because we're getting old.
Armisen was SO underrated when he was there. His musical gifts are fantastic when coupling it with his comedy talents. He never disappoints when the two come together. I love it when he would have his cast mates in the band too.
You know you’ve watched this too many times when you finally notice the tribute to the creator and producer of SNL Lorne Michaels on Fred’s guitar strap. 👍 “TY LM I ❤️ u “
So sad :(
Love Fred... Great seeing Carrie up there as well :)
I remember thinking that Fred's leaving wasn't a big deal- he was never a huge star the way Andy Samberg, Bill Hader or Kristen Wiig were- but then I was thinking back and I realised, he was in virtually every one of my favourite sketches in one role or another
FYI Bill was actually playing the bass live
It looked like all 4 cast members were playing live.
@@krashd i THINK taran might be miming, but i'm pretty sure sudekis is actually drumming
They’re all playing except for Taran.
Nice last name natividad !
they're all miming the instruments but they play to the track so it's obvious they learned it beforehand, Fred probably recorded most of it, the drums aren't properly mic'd and they only have one guitar amp on stage and 4 electric players, jason misses some transitions and they all have a beat or two off from the chord progressions :p but it's mixed so good it sounds "live" Fred was perfect
This was the best way to end their tenure on the show. Simply perfect.
just how much talented are the snl cast members :o
It's two chords mate
To me J looks like he accidentally walked into the wrong place and someone handed him a guitar and pointed to the stage and he was like "Well, okay...this IS what I do, so..."

J Mascis from the band Dinosaur Jr!
Just 2 weeks ago, Fred was on SNL with musical band The 1975. Fred was so into Matty Healy at the ending credits. You can clearly see his love for Brit-Pop is real!🤩
His accent is spot on 👌👌
I saw the original lyrics when Fred posted it on his insagram account years ago. His first few posts were about his last show too. Still miss him but I'm glad he had Portlandia with Carrie Brownstein and Documentary Now! with Bill Hader.
